<P>We investigate the location of the radio jet bases ('radio cores') of blazars in radio images and their stationarity by means of dense very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) observations. In order to measure the position of a radio core, we conducted a 12 epoch astrometric observation of the blazar Markarian 421 with the VLBI Exploration of Radio Astrometry at 22 GHz immediately after a large X-ray flare, which occurred in the middle of 2011 September. For the first time, we find that the radio core is not stationary but rather changes its location toward 0.5 mas downstream. This angular scale corresponds to the de-projected length of a scale of 10(5) Schwarzschild radii (R-s) at the distance of Markarian 421. This radio-core wandering may be a new type of manifestation associated with the phenomena of large X-ray flares.</P>

<P>Inappropriate vocal expressions, e.g., vocal tics in Tourette syndrome, severely impact quality of life. Neural mechanisms underlying vocal tics remain unexplored because no established animal model representing the condition exists. We report that unilateral disinhibition of the nucleus accumbens (NAc) generates vocal tics in monkeys. Whole-brain PET imaging identified prominent, bilateral limbic cortico-subcortical activation. Local field potentials (LFPs) developed abnormal spikes in the NAc and the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC). Vocalization could occur without obvious LFP spikes, however, when phase-phase coupling of alpha oscillations were accentuated between the NAc, ACC, and the primary motor cortex. These findings contrasted with myoclonic motor tics induced by disinhibition of the dorsolateral putamen, where PET activity was confined to the ipsilateral sensorimotor system and LFP spikes always preceded motor tics. We propose that vocal tics emerge as a consequence of dysrhythmic alpha coupling between critical nodes in the limbic and motor networks.</P>
High-Power ECRH Experiments in the GAMMA 10 Tandem Mirror

Power-up of gyrotrons was carried out and corresponding launcher systems were designed for plug and central-cell ECRH systems in the GAMMA 10 tandem mirror. Then, a high-power ECRH experiment was started. For the plug ECRH, new 500-kW gyrotrons produced a new record value of the confining potential. For the central-cell ECRH, development of a new antenna system has increased the transmission rate of incident microwave power and focused it onto the machine axis in the resonance surface. As a result, a clear increase of the diamagnetism was observed during the pulse of ECRH.

Bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have multilineage differentiation capacity potential to become various cell types, including bone, cartilage, fat, muscle and neurons. MSCs have been engrafted and survived in animal grains, raising the possibility of therapeutic potential for patients with neurological disorders. Human fetal bone marrow MSCs were transfected with a retroviral vector carrying v-myc and twelve clones of human bone marrow MSC cell lines have been generated. B10, one of the cell lines, carries normal human karyotype of 46,XX and expresses cell type specific markers for human MSCs including CD13, CD29, CD44, CD49b, CD90 and CD166. when B10 cells were grown in differentiation media, better than 80% of cells differentiated into osteocytes, chondrocytes and adipocytes, and 40% of cells expressed neuron-specific cell type markers, beta-tubulin III and neurofilaments. These results indicate that the immortalized human MSCs should serve as a powerful tool for research into development of stem cell based therapy for human neurological disorders.
