First record of the genus Dimia Kerzhner (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae) from the Korean Peninsula

A genus, Dimia Kerzhner (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Miridae: Bryocorinae), is reported from the Korean Peninsula for the first time with a species of Dimia inexspectata Kerzhner, 1988. The morphological information such as description and diagnosis and a key to the Dimia species are also provided with photographs of adult specimens and male genitalia.

Coleoptera is a group of insects that are most diverse among insect resources. Although used as indicator species and applied in developing new drugs, it is difficult to identify them quickly. Since the development of a method using mitochondrial DNA information for identification, studies have been conducted in Korea to swiftly and accurately identify species. The National Science Museum of Korea (NSMK) has been collecting and morphologically identifying domestic reference insects since 2013, and building a database of DNA barcodes with digital images. The NSMK completed construction of a database of digital images and DNA barcodes of 60 beetle species in the Korean National Research Information System. A total of 179 specimens and 60 species were used for the analysis, and the averages of intraspecific and interspecific variations were 0.70+/-0.45% and 26.34+/-6.01%, respectively, with variation rates ranging from 0% to 1.45% and 9.83% to 56.23%, respectively.

This paper provides an annotated catalogue of the plant bugs, subfamily Orthotylinae (Heteroptera: Miridae) from the Korean Peninsula. In this study, a total of 41 species are enumerated, including four new records from the Korean Peninsula: Heterocordylus alutaceus Kulik 1965, Malacocorisella endoi Yasunaga, 1999, Orthotylus interpositus Schmidt, 1938, and Strongylocoris leucocephalus (Linnaeus, 1758). Distribution data and bibliographical references of each taxon are included. Biological notes (e.g. host and/or habitat) based on the local specimens of the Korean Peninsula are also presented.
First record of the genus Serendiba Distant (Hemiptera: Reduviidae) from the Korean Peninsula

The genus Serendiba Distant, which belongs to the subfamily Harpactorinae of the family Reduviidae, has been reported from the Korean Peninsula for the first time with a species of Serendiba staliana Horvath, 1879. The morphological information of the species and genus such as the description and diagnosis is provided with photographs of an adult specimen and male genitalia.

The genus Stenonabis Reuter (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Nabidae: Nabinae) from Korea is reviewed. Stenonabis uhleri Miyamoto, 1964 is reported from the Korean Peninsula for the first time. Morphological information such as descriptions and diagnoses for the Korean species with male and female genital illustrations are provided, and some biological information is also given. Additionally, we provide a key to the Stenonabis species in the Far East.

Characteristics of the birds community in the islands off the West Coast of Seogwipo City, Korea

This study was conducted to survey the status of birds in islands off the west coast of Seogwipo City - Beomseom, Hyeongjeseom, Marado, and Gapado islands - in May and September 2013, as a part of the joint research of the Korean Biodiversity Consortium. As a result, 56 species were observed in those four islands: 167 individuals of 15 species on Beomseom, 79 individuals of 13 species on Hyeongjeseom, 193 individuals of 21 species on Gapado, and 354 individuals of 42 species on Marado; where seven threatened birds were confirmed to inhabit there. Apus pacificus is dominant on Beomseom, Hyeongjeseom, and Marado while Passer montanus is dominant on Gapado. Species diversity was highest on Marado (2.54) which was followed by Gapado and Beomseom (1.99) and Hyeongjeseom (1.82). These findings will be used as valuable data to protect the biota of the islands off Seogwipo including Beomseom that was a state-designated natural reserve.
A study on the biodiversity of benthic invertebrates in the waters of Seogwipo, Jeju Island, Korea

The biodiversity of benthic invertebrates in the intertidal and subtidal regions of Gapado, Beomseom, and Munseom islets was surveyed twice in May and September 2013 to study the state of biodiversity in Seogwipo, Jeju Island. As a result, a total of 77 species, 46 families, 25 orders, 14 classes, and nine phyla of benthic invertebrates were found. The species which were found, by taxon, consisted of the following: 26 species of Cnidaria (34%), 24 species of Mollusca (31%), seven species of Chordata (9%), six species of Arthropoda (8%), six species of Porifera (8%), five species of Echinodermata (7%), one species of Bryozoa (1%), one species of Annelida (1%), and one species of Ctenophora (1%).

Three species of the genus Cyllecoris are recognized in Korea. Of these, Cyllecoris nakanishii Miyamoto, 1969 has been reported in the Korean Peninsula for the first time. Morphological information such as diagnosis and genital description is provided with photographs and illustrations. Cyllecoris vicarius Kerzhner, 1988 has been reported based on South Korean materials for the first time, and variations of its paramere are presented. A key to Cyllecoris species from Korea is also provided.

A new species, Apolygus josifovi Kim et Jung sp. nov., and a new record, Apolygus roseofemoralis, are described and reported for the first time from the Korean Peninsula. Morphological information including descriptions of male genitalia and diagnoses, and a key to the Korean Apolygus species are presented with photographs and illustrations.
