        Three-Dimensional Z-Plasty(Yoon's Method)를 이용한 내안각 췌피 성형술

        The presence of epicanthal folds in Asian eyelids is one of their unique features, in combination with the lack of supratarsal folds. Western culture has influenced many people to prefer to eliminate the prominent epicanthal fold. A number of surgical techniques have been suggested for their correction. However, difficulty with design, excessive and prominent scarring of medial canthal and nasal area, recurrence, and rigidity of application are potential problems associated with many procedures. This paper describes a epicanthoplasty with three-dimensional Z-plasty. Through epicanthal fold incision, the medial canthal tendon is medially advanced and sutured to the periosteum of nasal bone. After the transposition of the flaps, trimming of the flap is usually required. Three-dimensional Z-plasty creates the attractive eyes. From March, 1995 to March, 1997, the technique was applied to 37 patients with epicanthal fold and was performed with or without double-fold operation. There were 34 females and 3 males with ages ranging from 17 to 30 years. Through 2 years follow-up, this technique has delivered esthetically good results with minimal postoperative scar and could made the reduction of ICD from 40 ± 2.13 mm to 34 ± 1.98 mm. The advantages of epicanthoplasty procedure using three-dimensional Z-plasty(Yoon's method) are as follows; 1) simple in design 2)minimal postoperative scar in the medial canthal area 3) versatile in its application 4) no recurrence 5) no hypertrophic scar 6) preserving ethnic identity.

      • Effect of Ionizing Radiation on Rat Tissue: Proteomic and Biochemical Analysis

        <P>Reactive oxygen species (ROS), generated by ionizing radiation, has been implicated in its effect on living tissues. We confirmed the changes in the oxidative stress markers upon irradiation. We characterized the changes in the proteome profile in rat liver after administering irradiation, and the affected proteins were identified by MALDI-TOF-MS and ESI-MS/MS. The identified proteins represent diverse sets of proteins participating in the cellular metabolism. Our results demonstrated that proteomics analysis is a useful method for characterization of a global proteome change caused by ionizing radiation to unravel the molecular mechanisms involved in the cellular responses to ionizing radiation.</P>

        Event Mean Concentrations (EMCs) and First Flush Characteristics of Runoff from a Public Park in Korea

        Characteristics of non-point source (NPS) pollution runoff from a public park in Gwangju, Korea were investigated. Results exhibited the highest pollutant concentrations at the start of the rainfall events due to their build-up and wash off processes. The average event mean concentrations (EMCs) were 27.8, 7.2, 56.3, 7.5, and 0.84 mg/L (range: 4.2-54.8 mg/L) for COD, (0.5-20.8 mg/L) for TOC, (22.3-138.4) for SS, (1.4-18.5 mg/L) for T-N, and (0.17-2.02 mg/L) for T-P, respectively. The study site presented a strong first flush effect for most rainfall events. However, no first flush effect was observed in rainfall events with small rainfall factors (e.g. intensity, amount, and runoff depth). On the other hand, the ratios of total pollution loads discharged by the first 20% of runoff volume were 32% for COD, 34% for TOC, 36% for SS, 42% for T-N, and 50% for T-P. Especially, $MFF_{20}$ (mass first flush) values of T-N and T-P were larger than those of other pollutants (COD, TOC, SS), indicating that T-N and T-P are easily transported by stormwater runoff from the public park. First flush management of T-N and T-P, therefore, is required for efficient water quality management of the public park.

        외상에 의한 심실중격 열창 : 1증례 보고

        Blunt chest trauma may cause a variety of cardiac injuries, such as cardiac contusion, congestive heart failure due to myocardial injury or disruption of intracardeac structues, and more severely, instantaneous death. Traumatic rupture of the interventricular septum secondary to blunt chest trauma is extremely rare. Rupture of the interventricular septum may occur almost immediately after injury or many days later. The most common site of rupture is in the muscular portion of the septum near the apex. The exact mechanism of ventricular septal rupture in blunt trauma is unknown but it is thought to occur by external compression of the heart between the sternum and the vertebrae or as a result of extreme changes in intrathoracic pressure during sudden deceleration. We report an autopsy case of intraventricular septum rupture due to blunt chest trauma. A comatous 28-year-old male was admitted to emergency room after blunt chest trauma by unidentified object. He was treated with supportive care but expired two days later. The autopsy findings were as follows. The dead boy was slightly slender. External wound and patterned bruise were not present. In submentopbic incision, both pleural fluid(right 700ml, left 450ml) and ascites(400ml) were noted. The posterior wall of left ventricle showed hemorrhage measuring 1cm in diameter. On opening the heart, there was interventricular septum rupture measuring 3.5cm in length. Other cardiac structures were unremarkable. On ligh microscopic examination, endothelial cell was not seen in ruptured portion and both lung showed severe congestion and edema.

        승모판대치술후 도플러 심초음피를 이용한 인공 판막의 종류에 따른 최대혈류속도와 평균혈류속도에 관한 연구

        The conventional non-invasive and invasive technique have limitations in evaluating cardiac prosthetic valves and artificial valves. We have used continuous wave Doppler echocardiography to evaluate 48 patients with tissue and mechanical mitral valves implanted within 4 months prior to examination. The results are as follows. 1) Of these patients, male are 28. The mean ages of male are 35.60 (yr) and female are 41.82. 2) The differences of peak and mean velocities of prosthetic acardiac valves between male and female are not significant, but the differences of valvular size between male and female are significant(male:31.00±1.30(mm), female:29.36±2.11, p<0.01). 3) The difference of size and flow velocities between mechanical (Edwards-Duromedics) and tissue(Ionescue-Shiley) valves are not significant, but the ages of patients with mechanical valves are significantly lower than tissue valves(mechanical valve; 34.05±11.28, tissue valve; 43.62±11.26, p<0.01). 4) The differences of flow velocities between mechanical and tissue valves, sizes of which are 31mm, are significant statistically (peak velocity; 130.15±24.59 vs 110.00±19.41, mean velocity; 74.49±23.14 vs 51.38±12.71, p<0.01). 5) The sizes of valves are larger, the peak and mean velocities are lower, but it is not significant statistically. The results indicated that Doppler echocardiography is a useful method for evaluating function of prosthetic valves.

      • ASEA-SKF 래들용 고알루미나 내화재의 용손성향

        ASEA-SKF 래들에 사용된 고알루미나 내화물의 광물 및 화학적 변화를 화학분석, 현미결관찰, X-선회절분석으로 조사하였다. 미사용 벽돌의 주요 광물상은 α-Al₂O₃, mullite, tridymite이었다. 가동면에서 SiO₂결정상이 소실되었으며 mullite와 α-Al₂O₃가 다소 감소하였고 2FeO·SiO₂와 hercynite, FeO, Cr₂O₃상이 생성되었다. 침식율은 강종에 따라 다소간 차이가 있었으며 용강 SF-45와 60분간 반응시켰을때 SK36벽돌의 침식율은 75.9%인 반면에 SK38벽돌의 침식율은 20.47%이었다. 대부분의 용손벽돌에서 가동면으로부터 내부로 감에 따라 열적 및 화학적 스폴링으로 인하여 미세균열이 존재하였다. Mineral and chemical changes of alumina refractories used in ASEA-SKF ladle were examined by chemical analysis, microscopy and X-ray diffraction method. Main minerals in unused high alumina runner bricks were α-Al₂O₃, mullite and tridymite. In working face of high alumina runner bricks, SiO₂phase was not observed, mullite and α-Al₂O₃phases more or less decreased. On the other hand, 2FeO·SiO₂, hercynite, FeO and Cr₂O₃phases were formed. Th corrosion of high alumina runner bricks showed different behavior by using various types of iron melts. Expecially, corrosivites of SK36 bricks and SK38 bricks, which immersed in SF-45 Iron melts for 60min, were 75.9% and 20.47%, respectively. Microcracks in high alumina runner bricks increased from the working face to the inside due to thermal and chemical spalling.

      • 새로운 세파로스포린 유도체의 합성에 관한 연구

        New cephalosporin antibiotics, 7-[(5-ethylthio-3-hydroxyisothiazol-4-yl)acetamido]-3-(hetero-cyclothiomethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid derivatives(2a-2d) and 7-[(5-ethyl-thio-3-hydroxyisothiazol-4-yl)acetamido]-3-[(4-carbonyl-5-ethylthioisothiazol-3-yl)oxymethyl]-3-cephem-4-carboxylic acid(2e) and 7-[(5-ethylthio-3-hydroxyisothiazol-4-yl)acetamido]-3-(pyridinummethyl)-3-cephem-4-carboxylate(2f) were synthesized. The structure of these compound(2a-2f) were confirmed by means of IR and ¹H-NMR-spectrum.

        Due to the rising cost of energy, new separation processes based on extraction are becoming more attractive than before. Thus, the need for calculating and predicting liquid-liquid equilibria(LLE) compositions has very much increased. The purpose of this study is to determine and describe LLE data for the quaternary system containing acetic acid aqueous solution and solvent at 25℃. We investigated that the selection of the optimum solvent to separate acetic acid from aqueous solution and compared with ternary and quaternary LLE including binary solvent also.
