A Pattern-Based Prediction Model for Dynamic Resource Provisioning in Cloud Environment

Cloud provides dynamically scalable virtualized computing resources as a service over the Internet. To achieve higher resource utilization over virtualization technology, an optimized strategy that deploys virtual machines on physical machines is needed. That is, the total number of active physical host nodes should be dynamically changed to correspond to their resource usage rate, thereby maintaining optimum utilization of physical machines. In this paper, we propose a pattern-based prediction model for resource provisioning which facilitates best possible resource preparation by analyzing the resource utilization and deriving resource usage patterns. The focus of our work is on predicting future resource requests by optimized dynamic resource management strategy that is applied to a virtualized data center in a Cloud computing environment. To this end, we build a prediction model that is based on user request patterns and make a prediction of system behavior for the near future. As a result, this model can save time for predicting the needed resource amount and reduce the possibility of resource overuse. In addition, we studied the performance of our proposed model comparing with conventional resource provisioning models under various Cloud execution conditions. The experimental results showed that our pattern-based prediction model gives significant benefits over conventional models.

Purpose: To develop the reliability growth planning for a subsystem of guided weapon system using PM2-Continuous model. Methods: The target MTBF of the subsystem is set by allocating the system target MTBF to the lower level, where ARINC method is applied. Other model parameters such as initial MTBF, management strategy ratio and average fix effectiveness factor are chosen from historical growth parameter estimates. Given the values of model parameters, the reliability growth planning curve using PM2-Continuous model is constructed and the sensitivity analyses are performed for the changes of model parameters. Results: We have developed the reliability growth plan for a subsystem of guided weapon system using PM2-Continuous model. It was found that the smaller the ratio of initial MTBF to target MTBF, the smaller the management strategy ratio, the smaller the average fix effectiveness factor, and the shorter the development test period, the higher reliability growth is required. Conclusion: The result of this study will be used as a basis for establishing the reliability growth plan, the test period setting and the budget appropriation for the similar system entering the system development stage in the future.

Product support analysis is an activity that identifies and shapes up the optimal product support elements. At this time, the life cycle management plan applying systems engineering should be managed. This paper presented a method of applying product support analysis in integrated product support. A case of product support analysis was applied to a commercial computer. First, a general breakdown list of a commercial computer was prepared to collect basic data for product support analysis. After that, logistic support analysis control number family tree, failure mode effects and criticality analysis, reliability centered maintenance, maintenance task analysis, RAM matrix and logistic support analysis summary were prepared. Also, an improvement process for product support analysis was presented.
UI4GSD: 글로버스 툴킷 4 기반 그리드 서비스 개발을 위한 사용자 인터페이스의 설계 및 구현

본 논문에서는 그리드 미들웨어인 글로버스 툴킷 4 상에서 그리드 서비스 개발자들이 효율적으로 서비스를 개발할 수 있는 사용자 인터페이스(UI4GSD, User Interface for Grid Service Development)를 제시하고자 한다. 일반적으로 그리드 서비스를 개발하기 위해서는 개발에 필요한 전문 지식이 요구되며, 서비스 개발 및 개발된 서비스를 글로버스 컨테이너에 배치하고 테스트하기 위해서는 많은 시간이 필요하기 때문에 서비스 개발의 효율성이 매우 떨어진다. 그러나 UI4GSD는 GUI를 통해 개발자로부터 서비스 개발에 필요한 정보를 입력 받아 처리함으로써 그리드 서비스 개발에 필요한 서비스 인터페이스 파일, 빌드 파일, 서비스 클래스들과 클라이언트 클래스를 자동으로 생성한다. UI4GSD에서는 정형화된 5단계의 개발 프로세스에 따라 그리드 서비스 개발이 이루어지고, 단계별로 입력된 데이터를 기반으로 쉽게 서비스를 개발할 수 있다. 결과적으로 UI4GSD는 그리드 서비스 개발을 위한 쉽고 편리한 작업 환경을 제공함으로써 서비스 개발의 편리성과 효율성을 증가시킬 수 있다. This paper presents UI4GSD (User Interface for Grid Service Development) for grid service developers that provides an efficient and friendly development environment based on Globus Toolkit 4. Normally, implementing grid service requires special expert knowledge for Grid as well as programming. Moreover, grid service development as well as testing of the deployed service in the Globus container takes a long time, which makes the grid service implementation very inefficient. However, UI4GSD can automatically generate a grid service interface file, a build file, and grid service class files as well as a client class file, using the information supplied by developers through GUI. In UI4GSD, a grid service is developed easily based on typical five step processes with required input data fed at each step. As a result, UI4GSD can provide an easy and convenient development environment thereby increasing the efficiency and convenience in developing grid services.

Background: Firefighters are exposed to many dangerous working conditions. Many studies have identified the risk of disease for firefighters, but only a few studies have addressed the medical expenses of firefighters, which represents a concrete scale of disease. Our purpose in this study was to determine the medical expenditures of firefighters to assess the overall scale of disease in Korea. We focused on cancer, mental disorders, cardio-cerebrovascular disease, and musculoskeletal disease, the prevalence of which was expected to be high in firefighters. Methods: This study utilized National Health Insurance Service data. We targeted firefighters, police officers, and government officials. We classified disease based on the 10th revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems codes. We compared prevalence by the age-standardized prevalence rate, considering standard distribution of the population. Medical expenditure of disease was defined as outpatient fees, hospitalization fees, and drug costs. Total medical expenditures were calculated by the sum of those 3 categories. Results: The age-standardized prevalence of cancer, mental disorders, and cardiovascular disease in firefighters was slightly higher than or similar to that of government officials and police officers (no significant difference). However, medical expenditures for stomach cancer, mental disorders, and most cardio-cerebrovascular diseases were higher in firefighters than in others. In particular, firefighters spent 12 times more money for ischemic heart disease than did government officials. Of musculoskeletal diseases, lumbar disc disorder had the highest expenditures among firefighters. Conclusions: The age-standardized prevalence of most of diseases of firefighters was not as high as in the other groups, but the medical expenses of firefighters were much higher than those of government officials and police officers.
