Mahalanobis’s Distance(D²) statistic in all possible comparisons among fifty varieties of pepper (Capsicum annunm L.) for sixteen morphological characters were compiled of the genetic differences among the varieities and varietal classification was made by single link cluster analysis based on the D²S. Mahalanobis’s Distance revealed great variation from 5.327 to 888.440 in 1,125 inter-varietal comparisons. According to the dendrogram based on the D²S, fifty varieties were classified into fourteen varietal groups, of which three (V, VIII, XIV) consisted of single variety. The averages of intra-group D²S except varietal group X, XI and XII were lower than those of inter-group D²S. Factors mostly contributing to the inter-group D²S were number of days to flowering, fruit length, fresh/dry fruit-weight ratio, and plant height. Most of the varietal groups were not associated with, their geographical origin, but several varieties collected from adjacent localities were grouped in the same varietal group or in neighboring varietal groups. Each varietal group was distinctly characterized by many major morphological characters.

The F₂ plants of 6 crosses between tall and blast resistant varieties, Tetep and Tadukan, and susceptible varieties with short height, Nopoong, Raekyung, Yushin and Milyang 23 were individually scored for the reaction to KI-315 race of rice blast and also culm length and days to heading were investigated. The resistance of Telep and Tadukan to the Kl-315 race in rice blast were resulted as being con trolled by two dominant genes. The resistant genes were appeared to be independent to the genes controlling culm length and the genes con trolling days to heading.

In order to identify the mode of inheritance of resistance of rice variety Yushin to bacterial leaf blight and the linkage group of resistant genes. Yushin was crossed to five marker testers and F₁ and F₂ plants from these crosses were inoculated with pathotype I at the flag leaf stage in the paddy field. The resistance of Yushin to a bacterial leaf blight pathotype I appeared to be controlled by a single dominant gene and was also linked with phenol staining gene of linkage group II by Nagao at the recombination value of 3.5~4.0%.
