A feeding trial was conducted to investigate effects of Bacillus licheniformis on growth performance and meat quality of broilers. Nine hundred one-d-old broiler chicks were randomly assigned to 3 experimental groups with three replicate pens of 100 broiler chicks. Three treatments were i) control, ii) basal diets supplemented with 1 ml of B. licheniformis for each in feed water per day iii) basal diets supplemented with 2 ml of B. licheniformis per chick in feed water per day. The supplementation of B. licheniformis significantly increased body weight in grower chickens (p<0.05), and significantly improved the feed conversion in 3 to 6 and 0 to 6 wk feeding period compared with the control group (p<0.05). Additionally, the supplement also resulted in increased protein and free amino acid contents, and decreased fat content in chicken breast fillet (p<0.05). Furthermore, improvement in sensory attributes was observed in broilers fed with the probiotic. In conclusion, B. licheniformis treatments resulted in a significant increase (p<0.05) in broiler productivity based on an index taking into account daily weight gain and feed conversion rate. Meanwhile, the probiotic contributed towards an improvement of the chemical, nutritional and sensorial characteristics of breast fillet. Overall, the study indicates that B. licheniformis can be used as a growth promoter and meat quality enhancer in broiler poultry.

In order to improve the efficiency of disease diagnosis and environmental monitoring, it is desirable to detect the concentration of proteins and metal ions simultaneously, since the current popular diagnostic platform can only detect proteins or metal ions independently. In this work, we developed a colorimetric microfluidic paper-based analytical device (μPAD) for simultaneous determination of protein (bovine serum albumin, BSA) and metal ions [Fe(III) and Ni(II)]. The μPAD consisted of one central zone, ten reaction zones and ten detection zones in one device, in which reaction solutions were effectively optimized for different types of chromogenic reactions. Fe(III), Ni(II) and BSA can be easily identified by the colored products, and their concentrations are in good accordance with color depth based on the established standard curves. The detection limits are 0.1 mM for Fe(III), 0.5 mM for Ni(II) and 1μM for BSA, respectively. Best of all, we demonstrated the efficiency of the μPAD with accurate detection of Fe(III), Ni (II) and BSA from river water samples within 15 minutes. The μPAD detection is efficient, instrument-free, and easy-to-use, holding great potential for simultaneous detection of cross type analytes in numerous diagnostic fields.

This paper analyzes higher order compensation topologies which are extended from basic second-order compensation of capacitive power transfer (CPT) converters using a Ttype circuit model. The system sensitivity to various parameters’ fluctuation of various CPT compensation topologies is analyzed and compared. Results from sensitivity analysis provide a convenient design guide for selecting parameters and compensation circuits to achieve the required load-independent (LI) operation for CPT systems with fewer design constraints. Moreover, the analysis effectively reveals the roles of extra components in higher order compensation compared with second-order compensation in making the whole system less sensitive, and hence provides a fast understanding of the choice of compensation circuits of different orders for applications addressing wide ranges of coupling and compensation parameter changes.
The Novel Infrared Target Localization Algorithm for Free Floating Space Robot
Xiong Luo,Xiaolu Jie,Huaping Liu,Fuchun Sun 제어로봇시스템학회 2011 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2011 No.10
With regards to the complicated characteristic of outer space, the infrared target recognition system has been investigated for free floating space robot. A novel algorithm is proposed based on visual location method for free floating space robot. Firstly, we set an omnidirectional camera with fixed lens on the ceiling. Here, the free floating robot is moving on the platform. Especially, in order to reduce image noise, we fix an infrared filter in the lens. Then, we place a number of infrared-emitting diodes on the free floating space robot and the targets. Finally, we can get the accurate positions and angle information of the robot and the target according to the location of the infrared light. The experimental results prove that this approach presented in this paper is an effective method for target detection and static target capture for free floating space robot.
Economic Production of Probiotics from Kitchen Waste
Chunhua Yin,Xue Dong,Le Lv,Zhi-Guo Wang,Qianqian Xu,Xiaolu Liu,Hai Yan 한국식품과학회 2013 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.22 No.suppl1
In the present work, a novel treatment method of kitchen waste for economic production of probiotics was investigated. This required the selection of suitable probiotic microorganisms. Based on the pure cultures of probiotic strains for the fermentation kitchen waste, 5 strains of microorganisms including 1 strain of Lactobacillus, 2strains of Bacillus, and 2 strains of yeast were selected, respectively. These probiotic microorganisms were mixed at the same ratio and cultured using the kitchen waste as culture medium at pH of 7.2 and temperature of 37oC. After 24 h, the total count of the viable cells reached 2.24×1010 CFU/g, which was higher than that obtained in any single probiotic strain pure culture. It was found that the presence of yeasts and Bacillus species enhanced the growth of Lactobacillus strain. Bench scale experiments were also done in a self-designed rotating drum type bioreactor. The experimental results indicate that there is a good possibility of utilizing kitchen waste for the economic production of probiotics.
