• Current Treatments for Breast Cancer-Related Lymphoedema: A Systematic Review

Li, Lun,Yuan, Liqin,Chen, Xianyu,Wang, Quan,Tian, Jinhui,Yang, Kehu,Zhou, Enxiang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.11

Background and objective: Breast cancer-related lymphoedema (BCRL) is a disabling complication with long term impact on quality on life after breast cancer treatment. Its management remains a major challenge for patients and health care professionals; the goal of this overview was to summarize effects of different treatment strategies for patients with BCRL. Methods: A thorough search was undertaken to allow a systematic review or meta-analysis of treatments for BCRL. Two investigators independently selected studies and abstracted the data. Results: Combined physical therapy (CPT) with different combinations of surgery, oral pharmaceuticals, low-level laser therapy, weight reduction, mesenchymal stem cell therapy, kinesio tex taping, and acupuncture might be effective in reducing lymphoedema, but exercise demonstrated no obvious benefit. The results of direct comparisons showed CPT might be more effective than standard physiotherapy (ST). Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) may not offer additional benefits to ST for swelling reduction, but could facilitate compression bandaging. MLD seemed to have similar effects with self-administered simple lymphatic drainage (SLD) or using an intermittent pneumatic compression pump (IPC). IPC might also not be associated with additional effectiveness for CPT. Efficacy of stem cell therapy vs. compression sleeve or CPT, as well as the effects of daflon and coumarin could not be established. Conclusion: Although many treatments for BCRL might reduce lymphoedema volume, their effects were not well established. The quality of many of the original studies in the included reviews was not optimal, so that in future randomized control trials are a high priority.

A Better Approximation Algorithm for Computing Connected Dominating Sets in Unit Ball Graphs

        Donghyun Kim,Zhao Zhang,Xianyue Li,Wei Wang,Weili Wu,Ding-Zhu Du IEEE 2010 IEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MOBILE COMPUTING Vol.9 No.8

A Virtual Backbone (VB) of a wireless network is a subset of nodes such that only VB nodes are responsible for routing-related tasks. Since a smaller VB causes less overhead, size is the primary quality factor of VB. Frequently, Unit Disk Graphs (UDGs) are used to model 2D homogeneous wireless networks, and the problem of finding minimum VBs in the networks is abstracted as Minimum Connected Dominating Set (MCDS) problem in UDGs. In some applications, the altitude of nodes can be hugely different and UDG cannot abstract the networks accurately. Then, Unit Ball Graph (UBG) can replace UDG. In this paper, we study how to construct quality CDSs in UBGs in distributed environments. We first give an improved upper bound of the number of independent nodes in a UBG, and use this result to analyze the Performance Ratio (PR) of our new centralized algorithm C-CDS-UBG, which computes CDSs in UBGs. Next, we propose a distributed algorithm D-CDS-UBG originated from C-CDS-UBG and analyze its message and time complexities. Our theoretical analysis shows that the PR of D-CDS-UBG is 14.937, which is better than current best, 22. Our simulations also show that D-CDS-UBG outperforms the competitor, on average.

Combining the Power of Advanced Proteome-wide Sample Preparation Methods and Mass Spectrometry for defining the RNA-Protein Interactions

        Tong Liu,Chaoshuang Xia,Xianyu Li,Hongjun Yang 사단법인 한국질량분석학회 2022 Mass spectrometry letters Vol.13 No.4

Emerging evidence has shown that RNA-binding proteins (RBPs) dynamically regulate all aspects of RNA in cells and involve in major biological processes of RNA, including splicing, modification, transport, transcription and degradation. RBPs, as powerful and versatile regulatory molecule, are essential to maintain cellular homeostasis. Perturbation of RNA-pro- tein interactions and aberration of RBPs function is associated with diverse diseases, such as cancer, autoimmune disease, and neurological disorders. Therefore, it is crucial to systematically investigate the RNA-binding proteome for understanding inter- actions of RNA with proteins. Thanks to the development of the mass spectrometry, a variety of proteome-wide methods have been explored to define comprehensively RNA-protein interactions in recent years and thereby contributed to speeding up the study of RNA biology. In this review, we systematically described these methods and summarized the advantages and disadvan- tages of each method.
