        Fabrication accuracy analysis of micromilling tools with complicated geometries by wire EDM

        The micromilling tool is one of the key factors affecting micromilling performance. The design and fabrication of micromilling toolsare still behind the increasing requirements in miniature component fabrication. How to estimate the fabrication accuracy of a newlydesigned micromilling tool is one of the urgent issues for micro tooling. This paper introduces an accuracy analysis method in the fabricationof micromilling tools by wire electrical discharge machining (WEDM) process. Taking two typical micro ball end mills into consideration,the micro tool fabrication process is kinematically modeled and analyzed. Analytical results show that the final fabricationaccuracy has a close relationship with the designed micro tool geometry. The fabrication procedures can be arranged based on the kinematicalanalysis, and the final fabrication accuracy also is affected by it. The radius errors of the fabricated micro ball end mill prototypeare within ±2μm, which is higher than that of commercially available similar ones. It verifies the proposed accuracy analysis method.

        Effect of PCL-b-PEG Oligomer Containing Ionic Elements on Phase Interfacial Properties and Aggregated Structure of PLA/PCL Blends

        The polycaprolactone (PCL)-b-polyethylene glycol (PEG) oligomer (Oli) and its derivative containing ionic elements (ILs) were used as interfacial compatibilizers and regulators, and the polylactic acid (PLA)/PCL/Oli and PLA/PCL/ILs blends were prepared by solution blending. The effects of Oli and ILs on the phase interfacial properties, aggregated structure, crystallization and mechanical properties of PLA/PCL blends were systematically studied. The results show that the ILs with strong interfacial emulsification ability can improve the dispersion of PCL in PLA matrix, and enhance the two-phase interfacial adhesion. When the content of ILs is 5 %, ion clusters can form and alleviate the restricted crystallization of PCL, and promote the segment movement of PLA through the non-covalent bonding of ionic elements. So the crystallization ability of PLA and PCL improve simultaneously. ILs have a strong regulatory effect on the phase interfacial morphology and aggregated structure of PLA/PCL blends, and the PLA/PCL blends containing high content of 5 % ILs can significantly improve the mechanical properties of PLA/PCL blends.

        Hydrogenation of dimethyl 2,5-furandicarboxylate to dimethyl tetrahydrofuran-2,5-dicarboxylate over Ru/HY

        The hydrogenation of biomass-based furan compounds is an important step for the catalytic valorization of biobased chemicals. In this work, Ru-based catalysts supported on different supports, such as HY, MgO and Amberlyst-15, were prepared and estimated for the hydrogenation of dimethyl 2,5-furandicarboxylate (FDMC). Among them, Ru/HY provided a desirable yield of 99.4% for tetrahydrofuran-2,5-dicarboxylic acid dimethyl ester (THFDMC) under 90 °C and 3 MPa H2. Based on catalyst characterization, Ru/HY could offer more surface Ru0 species and carbon radical intermediates than other catalysts, which could largely favor the activation of hydrogen and then promote the hydrogenation of FDMC over Ru/HY.

        Cutting force, tool wear and surface roughness in high-speed milling of high-strength steel with coated tools

        The TiAlN+TiN coated tool, AlTiN coated tool and TiN/TiCN/TiAlN multi-coated tool were chosen for the high-speed milling of AISI 4340. The resultant cutting force and tool wear of coated tools were reviewed. The influence of cutting parameters and coating materials on the machined surface roughness was studied. The smallest resultant cutting force was obtained by TiN/TiCN/TiAlN multicoated tool. The main wear mechanisms of coated tool were chipping, collapse, the chipping of coating, adhesive wear, abrasive wear and crater wear. The minimal flank wear width was obtained by TiN/TiCN/TiAlN multi-coated tool. Among the selected cutting parameters, the lower surface roughness R a of 0.08~0.32 μm was achieved by the TiN/TiCN/TiAlN multi-coated tool and TiAlN+TiN coated tool. This work was conducive to the selection of coated tools and the optimization of cutting parameters in high-speed milling of AISI 4340, as well as to the promotion of high-efficiency and high-quality machining of hard-to-cut material.
