In this work, we proposed a dielectric barrier discharge (DBD)-assisted one-pot strategy to fabricate carbon quantum dots (CQDs) using only one reagent N, N-dimethylformamide (DMF) at atmospheric pressure and room temperature. The experimental conditions were carefully investigated, and the prepared CQDs were characterized by using UV-vis spectrophotometer, fluorescence spectrophotometer, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectrometer (XPS). The CQDs have an average size of 3.6nm in diameter with narrow size distribution, and can be used as highly selective and sensitive fluorescence probes for hydrogen peroxide and glucose, with limits of detection of 3.8μM and 3.5μM, respectively.

A WO_3/TiO_2 composite film was in-situ prepared in tungstate electrolyte and characterized by Electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, UV―Vis spectrophotometer and Photoluminescence. The oxide film consists of mixture phases of anatase and rutile, showing porous structures and metallurgical bond with substrate. With the incorporation of WO_3 into TiO_2, the optical absorption edge of TiO_2 filmwas shifted to longer wavelength slightly and the separation between electrons and holes was promoted effectively. WO_3/TiO_2 composite film with increased photo quantum efficiency will be promising in the treatment of environmental pollutants.

<P><B>BACKGROUND:</B></P><P>Genetic testing of tumor tissue and circulating cell-free DNA for somatic variants guides patient treatment of many cancers. Such measurements will be fundamental in the future support of precision medicine. However, there are currently no primary reference measurement procedures available for nucleic acid quantification that would support translation of tests for circulating tumor DNA into routine use.</P><P><B>METHODS:</B></P><P>We assessed the accuracy of digital PCR (dPCR) for copy number quantification of a frequently occurring single-nucleotide variant in colorectal cancer (<I>KRAS</I> c.35G>A, p.Gly12Asp, from hereon termed G12D) by evaluating potential sources of uncertainty that influence dPCR measurement.</P><P><B>RESULTS:</B></P><P>Concentration values for samples of <I>KRAS</I> G12D and wild-type plasmid templates varied by <1.2-fold when measured using 5 different assays with varying detection chemistry (hydrolysis, scorpion probes, and intercalating dyes) and <1.3-fold with 4 commercial dPCR platforms. Measurement trueness of a selected dPCR assay and platform was validated by comparison with an orthogonal method (inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry). The candidate dPCR reference measurement procedure showed linear quantification over a wide range of copies per reaction and high repeatability and interlaboratory reproducibility (CV, 2%–8% and 5%–10%, respectively).</P><P><B>CONCLUSIONS:</B></P><P>This work validates dPCR as an SI-traceable reference measurement procedure based on enumeration and demonstrates how it can be applied for assignment of copy number concentration and fractional abundance values to DNA reference materials in an aqueous solution. High-accuracy measurements using dPCR will support the implementation and traceable standardization of molecular diagnostic procedures needed for advancements in precision medicine.</P>

<P>This paper summarizes the recent activities of the Chromosome-Centric Human Proteome Project (C-HPP) consortium, which develops new technologies to identify yet-to-be annotated proteins (termed “missing proteins”) in biological samples that lack sufficient experimental evidence at the protein level for confident protein identification. The C-HPP also aims to identify new protein forms that may be caused by genetic variability, post-translational modifications, and alternative splicing. Proteogenomic data integration forms the basis of the C-HPP’s activities; therefore, we have summarized some of the key approaches and their roles in the project. We present new analytical technologies that improve the chemical space and lower detection limits coupled to bioinformatics tools and some publicly available resources that can be used to improve data analysis or support the development of analytical assays. Most of this paper’s content has been compiled from posters, slides, and discussions presented in the series of C-HPP workshops held during 2014. FATE AND METABOLISM OF NITROGEN IN GOATS FED <sup>15</sup>N-LABELLED RICE STRAW

Three goats were fed with $^{15}N$-labelled rice straw to study the characteristics of digestion, assimilation, metabolism and excretion of C and N compounds from rice straw. It was shown that the amount of $^{15}N$ assimilated into the bodies of the two slaughtered goats accounted for 38.5 and 23.6% of the total amount of $^{15}N$ ingestion in the experimental diet by each goat. The $^{15}N$ excreted via the feces and urine for the three goats accounted for 34.8, 33.2 and 33.9% of the total amount of $^{15}N$ ingested in the feed of the 3 goats. The recoveries of $^{15}N$ from the two slaughtered goats were 73.3 and 57.5%, with the corresponding rates of $^{15}N$ loss 26.7 and 42.5% respectively. The amino acids digestibilities were 68.7 and 54.0%, while the digestibilities of carbohydrates were 74.8 and 67.7% respectively for goats 1 and 3.

<P>We report low-temperature thermal conductivity measurements on high-quality single crystalline <I>α</I>-BiPd, a noncentrosymmetric superconductor with <I>T</I> <SUB>c</SUB>?≃?3.8 K. In zero magnetic field, the residual linear term <I>κ</I> <SUB>0</SUB>/<I>T</I> is absent, indicating a full gap and suggesting dominant singlet pairing. Consistent with this picture, <I>κ</I> <SUB>0</SUB>(<I>H</I>)/<I>T</I> shows weak field dependence in low field, but grows relatively fast in fields above 0.03 T (≃1/5<I>H</I> <SUB>c2</SUB>). Implications for the material’s disputed high-field behavior are discussed, and constraints are placed on the previously proposed scenarios.</P>

A novel process for silicon on insulator(SOI) technology has been presented. Single crystal Si is grown by molecular beam epitaxy(MBF) on a porous silicon(PS) system consisting of two layers of PS with different microstructures. Subsequent lateral oxidation converts the structure to SOI wish excellent insulation property. Si islands with a width of 135㎛ and low doping concentration have been achieved.
