Tension pneumocephalus is a neurosurgical emergency that occurs when air is trapped in the intracranial cavity, leading to brain compression and causing severe neurological symptoms such as decreases in motor and sensory function, and consciousness. Most cases of pneumocephalus require conservative treatment, but in case with a neurologic deficit, a neurosurgical emergency operation is needed. Here, we present the two cases of posttraumatic tension pneumocephalus undergone burr hole trephination with saline infusion and craniotomy. By sharing our experience with these cases, we hope to provide an option for the treatment of such cases.
On Best Precedence Test when Data are subject to Unequal Patterns of Censorship

Nonparametric tests for comparing two treatments when data are subject to unequal patterns of censorship are discussed. Best precedence test proposed by Slud can be viewed as a nice alternative test comparing with weighted log-rank tests, not to mention the advantage of short experimental period. This research revises some missing parts of Slud's test and examines the asymptotic power of it under the nonproportional hazard alternatives through the simulation. The simulation studies show best precedence test has reasonable power in the sense of robustness under nonproportional hazard alternatives and could be recommended at such situation.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>This paper addresses the performance of a fully integrated low phase noise X-band oscillator fabricated by using an InGaP/GaAs HBT process with <I>f</I><SUB>t</SUB> of 53.2 GHz. The oscillator circuit consists of a negative resistance generating circuit with base inductors, a resonating emitter circuit with micro-strip lines and a buffing resistive collector circuit with tuning diodes. The oscillator achieves 4.33 dBm output power and exhibits −121.17 dBc/Hz phase noise at 100 KHz away from 10.38 GHz oscillating frequency. This phase noise is, to our knowledge, the lowest reported for monolithic oscillators with oscillation frequencies higher than 10 GHz. The oscillator draws 36 mA current from a 6.19 V supply and occupies 0.8 mm by 0.8 mm die area.</P>
Inter-Chunk Popularity-Based Edge-First Caching in Content-Centric Networking

<P>Content-centric networking (CCN) is considered promising for the efficient support of ever-increasing streaming multimedia services. Inter-chunk popularity-based caching is one of the key requirements in CCN multimedia services because some chunks of a content file tend to be requested more frequently than others. For multimedia contents, forepart chunks often have higher popularity than others as users may interrupt and abort before finishing its service. This paper presents a novel cache replication scheme, which places more popular chunks ahead on the edge router, and establishes a cache pipelining on the relaying routers along the path to reduce user-perceived delay. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme incurs less delay and reduces the overall redundant network traffic while guaranteeing a higher cache hit ratio.</P>

<P><I>Rhus verniciflua</I> Stoke has been commonly used in traditional medicine to treat gastrointestinal (GI) dysfunction diseases. In order to investigate pharmacological properties of<I> Rhus verniciflua</I> Stoke water extract (RVX) on cisplatin-induced amnesia, RVX (0, 25, 50, or 100 mg/kg) was orally administrated for five consecutive days after a single intraperitoneal injection of cisplatin (6 mg/kg) to SD rat. Cisplatin injection significantly increased the kaolin intake (emesis) but reduced the normal diet intake (anorexia) whereas the RVX treatment significantly improved these abnormal diet behaviors at both the acute and delayed phase. The serotonin concentration and the related gene expressions (5-HT3 receptors and SERT) in small intestine tissue were abnormally altered by cisplatin injection, which were significantly attenuated by the RVX treatment. Histological findings of gastrointestinal tracts, as well as the proteins level of proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-<I>α</I>, IL-6, and IL-1<I>β</I>), revealed the beneficial effect of RVX on cisplatin-induced gastrointestinal inflammation. In addition, RVX significantly improved cisplatin-induced myelosuppression, as evidenced by the observation of leukopenia and by histological examinations in bone marrow. Our findings collectively indicated<I> Rhus verniciflua</I> Stoke improved the resistance of rats to chemotherapy-related adverse effects in the gastrointestinal track and bone marrow.</P>

<P>Photoresponsive carbohydrate-based giant surfactants (abbreviated as CELA<I><SUB>n</SUB></I>D-OH) were specifically designed and synthesized for the automatic vertical alignment (VA) layer of nematic (N) liquid crystal (LC), which can be applied for the fabrication of remote-controllable optical devices. Without the conventional polymer-based LC alignment process, a perfect VA layer was automatically constructed by directly adding the 0.1 wt % CELA<SUB>1</SUB>D-OH in the N-LC media. The programmed CELA<SUB>1</SUB>D-OH giant surfactants in the N-LC media gradually diffused onto the substrates of LC cell and self-assembled to the expanded monolayer structure, which can provide enough empty spaces for N-LC molecules to crawl into the empty zones for the construction of VA layer. On the other hand, the CELA<SUB>3</SUB>D-OH giant surfactants forming the condensed monolayer structure on the substrates exhibited a planar alignment (PA) rather than a VA. Upon tuning the wavelength of light, the N-LC alignments were reversibly switched between VA and PA in the remote-controllable LC optical devices.
