ZnO Nanorod-Based Humidity Sensors With Fast Response

<P>Humidity sensors based on ZnO nanorods (NRs) have been developed using a Wheatstone bride (WB) configuration, where the ZnO NRs were selectively grown onto the one quadrant of the WB circuit. It turns out that the WB-based sensor possesses superior performances in terms of response and recovery time, and thermal stability in comparison with conventional types of resistive sensors. Thus, the WB sensor exhibits a fast response and recovery time (~1 s), and temperature-invariant behaviors over a broad range of temperatures up to 180 °C, which is likely because of the self-calibrating and error correction capabilities of the WB circuit itself.</P>
Molecular weight and crosslinking on the adhesion performance and flexibility of acrylic PSAs

<P>Acrylic pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) are used in the production of flexible displays. Acrylic PSAs must have high flexibility and recovery to meet the industry demands for flexible displays. For these reasons, acrylic PSAs were designed to determine the effects of molecular weight and cross-linking on acrylic PSAs. Stress relaxation and creep tests were measured with dynamic mechanical analysis to identify the flexibility and recovery of the acrylic PSAs. The molecular weight and glass transition temperature of the PSAs were measured by gel permeation chromatography and differential scanning calorimetry. A texture analyzer was used to measure the adhesion performance of the acrylic PSAs. With increasing molecular weight, the adhesion performance increased, especially from 86 to 108 K molecular weight PSAs. This is due to the entanglement of the polymer chains. The stress and recovery of cross-linked acrylic PSAs was much higher than that of neat acrylic PSAs. This result is attributed to interactions between the polymer chains due to cross-linking.</P>

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The use of acrylic pressure sensitive adhesives (PSAs) in flexible displays involves their attachment to each layered device. Due to the high industrial demand of flexible displays, acrylic PSAs must necessarily exhibit high flexibility. In this study, the effect of the crosslinking density of acrylic PSAs on their adhesion and flexibility properties has been investigated by incorporating a diisocyanate crosslinking agent into the PSA structure. As the content of the crosslinking agent increased, the measured peel strength and tack of the synthesized PSAs decreased, while the maximum value of the lap shear stress increased. In addition, the maximum stress and shear strain determined for the crosslinked PSA specimens decreased with an increase in the crosslinking agent concentration (although, the stress measured at low strain values was initially increasing until the crosslinking agent content reached 1 phr). The results of stress relaxation testing showed a stress increase at specified strain levels with an increase in the crosslinking agent content up to 0.5 phr, while the results of creep testing revealed that the measured strain was inversely proportional to the degree of elastic recovery. The obtained data indicate that crosslinking generally improves the PSA properties related to their use in flexible display applications; however, very high crosslinking densities produce mostly a negative effect on the PSA flexibility and adhesion characteristics.</P>

<P>Kaurane diterpene compounds have been known to be cytotoxic against several cancer cells through inhibition of nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappaB) activity. Here, we showed that inflexinol, a novel kaurane diterpene compound, inhibited the activity of NF-kappaB and its target gene expression as well as cancer cell growth through induction of apoptotic cell death in vitro and in vivo. These inhibitory effects on NF-kappaB activity and on cancer cell growth were suppressed by the reducing agents DTT and glutathione and were abrogated in the cells transfected with mutant p50 (C62S). Sol-gel biochip and surface plasmon resonance analysis showed that inflexinol binds to the p50 subunit of NF-kappaB. These results suggest that inflexinol inhibits colon cancer cell growth via induction of apoptotic cell death through inactivation of NF-kappaB by a direct modification of cysteine residue in the p50 subunit of NF-kappaB.</P>
Quasi-Symmetric Wheatstone Bridge Zinc Oxide Nanorod UV Detectors

<P>Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanorod-based ultraviolet (UV) detectors have high responsivity at room temperature due to carrier generation assisted by the depletion region formed by oxygen adsorbed on the surface of nanorods. As such, the amount of oxygen adsorbed on the ZnO nanorod surface and the number of electron-hole pairs that reaches the depletion region on the surface can change the response of the detector. In this paper, the transient responses of metal-semiconductor-metal ZnO nanorod-based UV detectors based on a quasi-symmetric Wheatstone bridge configuration were investigated. Responsivity, defined as the ratio of the Wheatstone bridge detector output current to the total power of the UV light incident on the active area of the detector, as high as 54 A/W was obtained in some of these UV detectors at 30 °C. It was found that the responsivity and the temperature effects on the UV response of the Wheatstone bridge ZnO nanorod UV detectors can be tailored by the difference in the diameters and lengths of the rods grown in the two quadrants.</P>
정신건강복지법 개정에 따른 입원적합성심사와 관련된 이해관계자의 경험

2016년, 구 정신보건법이 「정신건강증진 및 정신질환자 복지서비스 지원에 관한 법률」로 개정되면서, 입원적합성심사위원회(이하 입적심) 제도가 신설되고 비자의입원 절차가 강화되었다. 본 연구는 입적심의 목표인 정신질환자의 인권증진 여부를 평가하기 위해 이해관계자들의 참여경험을 질적으로 분석하고, 향후 나아갈 방안을 모색하였다. 이에 전국 5개 국립정신병원에서 입적심과 관련된 총 27명의 전문의, 법조인, 정신건강전문요원, 가족, 당사자, 조사원, 정신질환자를 심층 면담하였다. 주제분석 결과, 4개의 주제와 16개의 하위주제가 도출되었다. 입적심 제도는 부당한 비자의입원 및 강압 이송행위에 대한 안전장치를 마련하여 인권을 향상시켰지만, 대면조사보다 서류심사가 주를 이루고 의사결정지원이 미흡하여 자기결정권이 제한된다는 한계를 드러냈다. 추후 자기결정권을 보장하기 위한 대면조사와 절차보조사업을 확충하고, 의료기관과 지역사회서비스를 연결하는 협력시스템이 구축되어야 한다. The revision of the “Mental Health Act” into the “Act on the Improvement of Mental Health and the Support for Welfare Services for Mental Patients” in 2016 led to the tightening of procedures for involuntary hospitalization through the implementation of the “Committee for Review as to Legitimacy of Admission” (hereinafter “Admission Review Committee”). This study evaluated whether the Admission Review Committee has achieved its goal to promote the human rights of people with a mental illness through qualitative analysis of stakeholder experiences. The evaluation is based on interviews with a total of 27 subcommittee members from all the five national psychiatric hospitals which have an Admission Review Committee in place. Those interviewed were psychiatrists, lawyers, mental health professionals, patients and their families, and investigators. As a result, a total of four categories and 16 themes emerged from the thematic analysis. Our study shows that the Admission Review Committee has promoted human rights by functioning as a minimum safeguard to prevent unjust involuntary hospitalization and forced transfer to psychiatric hospitals. However, insufficient procedural assistance has limited the right to self-determination, and the committee heavily relied on paper review rather than the face-to-face investigation with people with a mental illness. For a better supportive committee for the human rights of people with a mental illness, we suggest that the committee adopt the face-to-face review process, procedural assistance services, and a governance system closely connecting medical facilities with local communities.

Objectives : This study aimed to evaluate adverse outcome associated with acupotomy and compare it with that of acupuncture. Methods : We retrospectively analyzed the chart records of 71 patients who received acupotomy at Daemyung Korean medical clinic from January 7, 2020 to March 6, 2020. We divided the acupotomy treatment area into 10, including the head, hand, chest, knees, shoulders, low back, neck, upper extremities, thighs, and feet. Furthermore, we investigated the adverse effect of acupotomy on those areas after treatment. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, and frequency analysis. Results : ‘Bruise of specific region’ accounted for the largest portion with 29 cases, followed by 24 cases of ‘feeling tired and sleepy’ and 17 cases of ‘itch’. There were 16 cases of ‘sustained pain’ at the area of treatment, 11 cases of ‘fatigue’, 5 cases of ‘swelling’, 5 cases of ‘dizziness’, 4 cases of ‘hematoma’. There were 3 cases of ‘vertigo’ and 2 cases of ‘parathesia’ and ‘wide bruises’, ‘headache’, ‘gastric discomfort’, ‘bleeding’, and ‘skin rash’ each. There was one case each that experienced ‘unclear pronunciation’, ‘nausea’, ‘abnormal sweating’, ‘vomiting’ and ‘emotional/psychological reactions’. Conclusions : Adverse outcomes associated with acupotomy were mostly ‘bruise of specific region’, ‘feeling tired and sleepy’, ‘itch’, ‘sustatained pain’, and ‘fatigue’. However, no adverse outcome or irreversible damage that have a serious effect on the body were observed.
Size-dependent toxicity of silver nanoparticles to Glyptotendipes tokunagai

Objectives : This study aims to evaluate the size-dependent toxicity of spherical silver nanoparticles (Ag NPs) to an endemic benthic organism, Glyptotendipes tokunagai. Methods : Ag nanoparticles of three nominal sizes (50, 100, and 150 nm) capped with polyvinyl pyrrolidone (PVP-Ag NPs) were used. Their physicochemical properties, acute toxicity (48 hours), and bioaccumulation were measured using third instar larvae of G. tokunagai. Results : The aggregation and dissolution of PVP-Ag NPs increased with exposure time and concentration, respectively, particularly for 50 nm PVP-Ag NPs. However, the dissolved concentration of Ag ions was not significant compared with the median lethal concentration value for AgNO3 (3.51 mg/L). The acute toxicity of PVP-Ag NPs was highest for the smallest particles (50 nm), whereas bioaccumulation was greatest for the largest particles (150 nm). However, larger PVP-Ag NPs were absorbed and excreted rapidly, resulting in shorter stays in G. tokunagai than the smaller ones. Conclusions : The size of PVP-Ag NPs significantly affects their acute toxicity to G. tokunagai. In particular, smaller PVP-Ag NPs have a higher solubility and stay longer in the body of G. tokunagai, resulting in higher toxicity than larger PVP-Ag NPs.
