A green and simple method to synthesize of 1,4-diketones via aldol reaction of arylglyoxals and ketones such as 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)-2-propanone, deoxybenzoin and substituted acetophenones in the presence of a catalytic amount of DABCO in water at room temperature has been reported. Corresponding 2-hydroxy-1,4-diones were obtained in moderate to high yields with simple separation of obtained solid from reaction mixture and recrystallization.

Let M be a module over a commutative ring R, and let T(M) be its set of torsion elements. The total torsion element graph of M over R is the graph $T({\Gamma}(M))$ with vertices all elements of M, and two distinct vertices m and n are adjacent if and only if $m+n{\in}T(M)$. In this paper, we study the basic properties and possible structures of two (induced) subgraphs $Tor_0({\Gamma}(M))$ and $T_0({\Gamma}(M))$ of $T({\Gamma}(M))$, with vertices $T(M){\backslash}\{0\}$ and $M{\backslash}\{0\}$, respectively. The main purpose of this paper is to extend the definitions and some results given in [6] to a more general total torsion element graph case.
Diesel combustion in heavy-duty engine with single- and double-injection strategies

Split injection strategies are attractive combustion strategies due to their potential in satisfying strict emission standards. In this study, a multidimensional computational fluid dynamics simulation was used to validate the numerical results for single- and double-injection strategies with experimental data. Thereafter, simultaneous effects of converting a single-injection strategy to a double-injection strategy and retarding the injection timing on the combustion parameters, pollutant emission, performance, and exergy terms were investigated. Results showed that double-injection strategies and retarding the start of injection could significantly affect the performance and engineout emissions, which could reduce the pollutant emission with a slight decrease in engine performance. Furthermore, results of exergy study confirm that double-injection strategies have a better exergy efficiency due to its lower irreversibility than the single-injection strategy.

Million Visual Analogue Scale Questionnaire: Validation of the Persian Version

Study Design: Descriptive cross-sectional study. Purpose: To validate the Persian version of the Million Visual Analogue Scale Questionnaire (MVAS), a self-administered low back pain (LBP) questionnaire. Overview of Literature: The majority of LBP questionnaires translated into Persian evaluate the impact of LBP on daily living. The MVAS is one of the most commonly used self-administered LBP questionnaires, and was developed to assess a different direction and effect of activities of daily living on LBP intensity. Methods: The questionnaire was translated into Persian with the forward-backward method and was administered to 150 patients randomly sampled from an occupational medicine clinic in Tehran in 2017. Results: Cronbach’s alpha for all subscales ranged between 0.670 and 0.799. Confirmatory factor analysis showed adequate construct validity of the Persian version of the MVAS, with root mean square error of approximation 0.046, goodness of fit index 0.902, and comparative fit index 0.969. Other indexes were satisfactory. Conclusions: The Persian MVAS is a valid and reliable instrument that can assess the effect of various daily activities on the intensity of LBP.
Ethanol Extracts of Achillea millefolium and Hypericum perforatum Low Anti-Toxoplasma Activity

Objectives: This study was performed to determine the lethal and the inhibitory effects of ethanol extracts of Achillea millefolium (A. millefolium) and Hypericum perforatum (H. perforatum) on Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) RH strain tachyzoites in vitro. Methods: The tachyzoites were treated with concentrations of 10, 50, and 100 mg/mL of A. millefolium and H. perforatum extracts within 10, 30, and 45 minutes in the wells. The mortality rates of tachyzoites treated with extracts were determined by using alkaline methylene blue staining. Also, the tachyzoites in cell cultures were treated with concentrations of 50, 100, and 200 mg/mL of these extracts. The cell viability, inhibition concentration ($IC_{50}$), and selectivity were determined from MTT (3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) assays. Results: In the cell-free in vitro study, all of tachyzoites were killed at concentrations of 100 mg/mL of both extracts while at concentration 10 mg/mL, the mortality was 4.53% - 5.31%. In the cell culture study, the values of the effective concentration ($EC_{50}$) were 215 and $153{\mu}g/mL$ and the selectivities were 0.73 and 0.69 for the A. millefolium and the H. perforatum extracts, respectively. Conclusion: We conclude that neither extracts has any significant effect on the tachyzoites of T. gondii in cell cultures.
