Ku is a protein which act as a repairing enzyme for the DNA double strand breaks (DSBs). It has a heterodimeric structure composed of two subunits, Ku70 and Ku86. The detail mechanism of Ku in DNA repair processes is still not unknown, but it is certain that Ku is a one of key protein in maintenance of chromosomal integrity and cell survival. Recent studies reported that dysfunction of Ku protein is related to the development of radioresistance in case of overexpression of Ku and tumorigenesis with Ku underexpression. As Ku may act as either a tumor suppressor or an oncoprotein, precise regulation of Ku function may be important for the tumor suppression. Ku may be used for the treatment of cancer to resist radiotherapy or chemotherapy.

Background: Superior colliculus is a part of midbrain, and participates in the visual reflexes, It receives afferent fibers from optic nerve, visual cortex, and spinotectal tract. After optic deprivation, the microscopic structure of the superior colliculus changed. Calcium-binding proteins (CBPs) Play an important role in the neuronal protection, differentiation and reorganization of the central nervous system, Objectives and Methods: The effects of neonatal retinal deafferentation on a CBPs, calbindm D-28k (CB), Parvalbumin (PB) and calretimn (CR), and the existence of colocalization between the CBPs were examined immunohistochemically in the rat superior colliculus. Results: On the experimental (contralateral to enucleation) side of superior colliculus, the number of CB-immunoreactive (IR) cells was reduced (77.4% compared to control), but not fibers. The number of PB-IR neurons and fibers was also reduced on the experimental side (88.5% compared to control), In the other hand, the CR-IR cells were dramatically increased (642% compared to control), but CR-IR fibers were markedly decreased on the experimental side. The colocalization between CB-CR and PV-CR was rarely observed in the superior colliculus Conclusion: These results suggest that the changes of retinotectal projection may alter the expressional pattern of CBPs in different manners; relatively stable in CB- and PV-IR neurons and plastic in CR-IR neurons.
EFFECT OF IMPLANT DESIGNS ON INSERTION TORQUE AND IMPLANT STABILITY QUOTIENT (ISQ) VALUE

Statement of problem. Primary implant stability has long been identified as a prerequisite to achieve osseointegration. So the application of a simple, clinically applicable noninvasive test to assess implant stability and osseiointegratation are considered highly desirable. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the ISQ value and the insertion torque of the 3 different implant system, then to evaluate whether there was a correlation between ISQ value and insertion torque; and to determine whether implant design has an influence on either insertion torque or ISQ value. Material and method. The experiment was composed of 3 groups: depending on the implant fixture design. Group1 was Branemark type parallel implant in $3.75{\times}7mm$. Group2 was Oneplant type straight implant in $4.3{\times}8.5mm$. Group3 was Oneplant type tapered implant in $4.3{\times}8.5mm$. Depending on the density of the bone, 2 types of bone were used in this experiment. Type I bone represented for cortical bone, type II bone represented for cancellous bone. With the insertion of the implant in type I and type II bone, the insertion torque was measured, then the ISQ value was evaluated, and then the correlation between insertion torque and ISQ value was analyzed Result and conclusion. Within the limitations of this study, the following conclusions were drawn. 1. Within the 3 different implants, the insertion torque value and ISQ value were higher in type I bone, when compared with type II bone.(p<0.05) 2. In type I and type II bone, Oneplant type tapered implant has the highest value in insertion torque.(p<0.05) 3. In type I and type II bone, there was no difference in ISQ values among the 3 types of implant. (p>0.05) 4. Significant linear correlation was found in $Br{\aa}nemark$ type parallel implant: $3.75{\times}7mm$ in type II bone.

Background: Although the pathogenesis of vitiligo isn`t fully understood, a recent study demonstrates that oxidative stress plays an important role to induce vitiligo. Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a novel peroxidase family to remove hydrogen peroxide using thioredoxin system, which is consisted of thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH. Objective: This study aimed to investigate the change of expression of Prx I to elucidate the role of oxidative stress in the pathogenesis of vitiligo. Methods: Sample specimens were obtained from the lesional skin of vitiligo patients, and non-depigmented skin was obtained from the perilesional area as control samples. The skin samples were immediately frozen using liquid nitrogen, and then section samples were prepared to perform immunohistochemical staining with antibodies for Prx I. Some of the skin biopsy samples were used for primary culture of keratinocytes. Protein extracts from the expanded keratinocytes were prepared for Western blot analysis of Prx I. Results: In vitiligo, the ubiquitous expression of Prx I in all layers of epidermis, which was also observed in the normal perilesional skin, was reduced in the depigmented lesion of vitiligo patients. The reduction of Prx I was remarkable from the lesions which were exposed to sunlight. Consistently, Prx I expression from the lesional keratinocytes were noticeably reduced in comparison with that from perilesional keratinocytes. Conclusion: Our results showing that Prx I is impaired in the epidermis of depigmented lesions of vitiligo patients suggest that oxidative stress is an important factor to induce vitiligo.
