Human breast is a soft tissue structure. The changes in the compositional variation especially at the onset stage of cancer could better be visualized by optical tomography, which depend on the refractive index variation compared to mammography. The latter technique depends on the variation of attenuation coefficient which could be an important parameter during the progression of the tumor. The objective of the present work is to simulate the optical tomographic procedure on breast tissue models. The breast model is made of goat fat tissues. In this the inclusions of tissues of varying optical parameters are inserted at different locations. The optical parameters of the inclusions are higher than that of fat tissues. Optical tomography reconstruction of breast phantom is carried out in parallel beam configuration. The tomographic images are further processed by various image processing procedures. The results show that the tissue compositional variation and size of the various tissues inserted into model are well resolved by this procedure.
