Multilevel resistive memory devices with an intermediate state were fabricated utilizing a poly(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) layer sandwiched between double-stacked PMMA layers containing CdSe/ZnS core-shell quantum dots (QDs). The current-voltage (I-V) curves on a Al/[PMMA:CdSe/ZnS QD]/PMMA/[PMMA:CdSe/ZnS QD]/indium-tin-oxide/glass device at low applied voltages showed current bistabilities with three states, indicative of multilevel characteristics. A reliable intermediate state was realized under positive and negative applied voltages. The carrier transport and the memory mechanisms of the devices were described on the basis of the I-V curves and energy band diagrams, respectively. The write-read-erase-read-erase-read sequence of the devices showed rewritable, nonvolatile, multilevel, and memory behaviors. The currents as functions of the retention time showed that three current states were maintained for retention times larger than 1 x 10<SUP>4</SUP> s, indicative of the good stability of the devices.
The Nexus Between Factors Affecting eBook Acceptance and Learning Outcomes in Malaysia

This study aims to investigate factors affecting eBook acceptance and learning outcomes among students experiencing online distance learning. As conventional textbooks are now switched into eBooks, the effects of contextual factors including lecturer, student computer competency, content and design of the course, access ability, infrastructure, and university support on eBook acceptance and learning outcome needs to be evaluated. The sample of this study is represented by students at the Universiti Teknologi MARA, City Campus Melaka, undertaking ‘strategic management course’. Non-probability random sampling was selected as the sampling technique and a purposive sampling method was chosen to select the samples. The samples comprised 171 students randomly selected through Google Form. The questionnaire data was analyzed by using PLS-SEM. The results indicated that these factors contributed 62.3% variations in the eBook acceptance and 67.1% variations in the learning outcomes. The strongest factor affecting both dependent variables was content and design of course. Managerial implication suggested that the content for all courses taught through the eBook platform needs to be revisited and improved in accordance with the mode of online deliverance. Tutorial on how to navigate the eBook platform is important to all users as this would enhance acceptance and produce better learning outcomes among students.

Febrifugine, the bioactive constituent of one of the 50 fundamental herbs of traditional Chinese medicine, has been characterized for its therapeutic activity, though its molecular target has remained unknown. Febrifugine derivatives have been used to treat malaria, cancer, fibrosis and inflammatory disease. We recently demonstrated that halofuginone (HF), a widely studied derivative of febrifugine, inhibits the development of T<SUB>H</SUB>17-driven autoimmunity in a mouse model of multiple sclerosis by activating the amino acid response (AAR) pathway. Here we show that HF binds glutamyl-prolyl-tRNA synthetase (EPRS), inhibiting prolyl-tRNA synthetase activity; this inhibition is reversed by the addition of exogenous proline or EPRS. We further show that inhibition of EPRS underlies the broad bioactivities of this family of natural product derivatives. This work both explains the molecular mechanism of a promising family of therapeutics and highlights the AAR pathway as an important drug target for promoting inflammatory resolution.

Renewal (tajdīd) has been one of the most controversial issues in the Islamic world. Throughout Islamic history, and especially since the Ottoman Empire started to lose ground to the West, there has been much debate about matters that need changing and how change should happen. One group that was both the subject and the agent of the change was the Sufis. One such influential Sufi mujaddid (innovator) was Khālid al-Baghdādī (d.1827). His innovative approaches have allowed Sufism to transform into activism, serving as a model for Sufis as well as for non-Sufi movements across all sectors of life. This study, which explores some conceptual similarities between Khālid al-Baghdādī’s innovative practices and social capital, analyzes his thoughts, and offers a conceptual framework in order to explain the complexity of the activities of the organizations he influenced, and to describe the process of producing social activism out of Sufism and the Sufi orders (ṭarīqa). It is hoped this study, by being the first attempt to look at Sufism from the perspective of social capital theory will serve as a starting point for further research.
