There are controversial findings regarding the roles of nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (Nrf2)/heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) pathway on bone metabolism under oxidative stress. We investigated how Nrf2/HO-1 pathway affects osteoblast differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells in response to hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), N-acetyl cysteine (NAC), or both. Exposing the cells to H2O2 decreased the alkaline phosphatase activity, calcium accumulation, and expression of osteoblast markers, such as osteocalcin and runt-related transcription factor-2. In contrast, H2O2 treatment increased the expression of Nrf2 and HO-1 in the cells. Treatment with hemin, a chemical HO-1 inducer, mimicked the inhibitory effect of H2O2 on osteoblast differentiation by increasing the HO-1 expression and decreasing the osteogenic marker genes. Pretreatment with NAC restored all changes induced by H2O2 to near normal levels in the cells. Collectively, our findings suggest that H2O2-mediated activation of Nrf2/HO-1 pathway negatively regulates the osteoblast differentiation, which is inhibited by NAC. <P>Although previous studies have shown that mollugin, a bioactive phytochemical isolated from <I>Rubia cordifolia</I> L. (Rubiaceae), exhibits antitumor effects, its biological activity in oral cancer has not been reported. We thus investigated the effects and putative mechanism of apoptosis induced by mollugin in human oral squamous cell carcinoma cells (OSCCs). Results show that mollugin induces cell death in a dose-dependent manner in primary and metastatic OSCCs. Mollugin-induced cell death involved apoptosis, characterized by the appearance of nuclear shrinkage, flow cytometric analysis of sub-G<SUB>1</SUB> phase arrest, and annexin V-FITC and propidium iodide staining. Western blot analysis and RT-PCR revealed that mollugin suppressed activation of NF-<I><I>κ</I></I>B and NF-<I><I>κ</I></I>B-dependent gene products involved in antiapoptosis (Bcl-2 and Bcl-xl), invasion (MMP-9 and ICAM-1), and angiogenesis (FGF-2 and VEGF). Furthermore, mollugin induced the activation of p38, ERK, and JNK and the expression of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) and nuclear factor E2–related factor 2 (Nrf2). Mollugin-induced growth inhibition and apoptosis of HO-1 were reversed by an HO-1 inhibitor and Nrf2 siRNA. Collectively, this is the first report to demonstrate the effectiveness of mollugin as a candidate for a chemotherapeutic agent in OSCCs via the upregulation of the HO-1 and Nrf2 pathways and the downregulation of NF-<I><I>κ</I></I>B.</P>

시중에 판매되고 있는 상토는 제조 회사에 따라 재료의 구성 및 혼합 비율이 다르다. 시판용상토를 제조사별로 구입하여 상토 제조사에 따라 배추 육묘기 묘소질에 미치는 영향에 대해 조사하였다. 상토 제조사 별로 배추의 지상부 및 지하부의 생육에 많은 차이가 있었다. 그리고 엽록소 함량 및 단백질 함량에도 차이가 많았으며, 엽록소 및 단백질 함량이 높았던 상토에서 배추의 생육이 좋았다. 상토 제조사별로 상토의 재료 및 혼합비율에 따라 배추의 유묘기 생육에 많은 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. The substrate is very important to grow seedling because of directly effect on seedling quality of Chinese cabbage. The substrates manufactured by the companies consist of different materials and mixing ratios. This study was conducted to observe the seedling quality of Chinese cabbage by using of the kinds of substrate. The number of leaf, leaf area, fresh weight, dry weight, root length, root weight and T/R ratio of the seedling were shown in different from each substrate manufactured by the companies. And chlorophyll and protein content of the seedling were also shown in different from substrates supplied from the companies, respectively. Substrate which was high in that was also higher in seedling quality. The material and mixing ratios of substrate effected on the growth of cabbage

To evaluate the antitumor activity of Paridis Rhizoma(PR), studies were done experimentally. The results were obtained as followe: 1. In cytotoxicity against MCF-7, SK-OV∼3, HCT15, concentration inhibiting cell growth up to below 50% of control was recognized at 100-200㎍/㎖ of PR and also against A549, XF498 was recognized at 50-100㎍/㎖. 2. In Inhibitory effect on activity of DNA topoisomerase I, the IC^50 was shown 50-100㎍/㎖ of PR. 3. The concentration inhibiting adhesion of A549 and SK-OV-3 to complex extracellular matrix up to below 50% of control was recognized at 10-100㎍/㎖ of PR. 4. The T/C% was 137.9 in PR-treated group in S-180 bearing ICR mice. From above results it was concluded that PR could be usefully applied for the prevention and treatment of cancer.

연약하고 압축성이 큰 준설 점토는 액, 소성한계가 크고 불안정한 상태에 있다. 이 흙의 침하속도는 압밀계수에 의해 결정된다. 이 연약한 점토를 다루기 쉽게 만들고 안전하게 하는 것은 우리 토질기술자들이 할 일이다. 자중압밀, 침투압밀, 저응력재하 압밀실험은 표준압밀과 비교해서 비선형적인 특징을 갖는다. 우선 압밀계수가 표준압밀에서는 상수로 취급할 수있지만 저응력의 범위에서는 비선형성을 보인다. 투수계수는 저응력범위에서 비선형이 되지만 표준압밀에서는 하중이 증가할수록 상수로 수렴하는 경향이 있다. 침강에서 자중압밀로 넘어 가면서 입자가 무거운 씰트가 먼저 가라앉고 상대적으로 가벼운 점토가 나중에 가라앉아서 다층구조를 이룬다. 자중압밀, 침투압밀, 응력재하는 서로 연관성을 갖는 것을 실험결과에서 알 수 있다. Dredged soft and compressible soil with high liquid limit and plastic limit is unstable. The rate of settlement in this soil layer is characterized by a coefficient of consolidation. To make this soft clay treat easily, what we have to do makes it stable. And this consolidation has non-homogeneous characteristics compared with the standard consolidation test. First, Cv shows non-linear at the range of low stress but constant in the standard consolidation test. A coefficient of permeability becomes non-linear in the low stresses but converges constant in the standard consolidation test as loading grows. Sedimentation and self-weight consolidation leads to multi-layered soil structure. Self-weight, seepage, loading consolidations are interrelated during the test.

In this paper, a digital oscilloscope is implemented using a C54x DSk with PC. This digital oscilloscope has some basic measurement functions with a capability to change Volt/Div and Time/Div as well as to set appropriate trigger level automatically. Also several stored waveforms and current input waveform can be displayed simultaneously. Experimental results show that our approaches are versatile and cost-effective particularly in educational installment.
Coevaporation에 의한 cd₁-xZn_(x)S 박막 제작 및 특성에 관한 연구

In this paper, structural optical and electrical properties of Cd_(1-x)Zn_(x)S thin films prepared by coevaporation method were studied. Also, effects of ZnS mole ratio(x) to CdS on properties of thin film Cd_(1-x)Zn_(x)S/CdTe solar cells were investigated. When the ZnS mole ratio was less than 0.85, the crystal structure of Cd_(1-x)Zn_(x)S films was hexagonal with the c axis aligned perpendicular to the substrate. For x>0.85, however, the Cd_(1-x)Zn_(x)S films were grown with cubic zincblende structire. As the ZnS mole ratio increased the lattice constant of Cd_(1-x)Zn_(x)S films rapidly increased with ZnS mole ratio. The open circuit voltage of Cd₁xZnxS/CdTe solar cells increased with x due to reducing of the electron affinity difference between Cd₁xZnxS and CdTe films. However, the increase of series resistance due to the high resistivity of Cd_(1-x)Zn_(x)S films results on reducing conversion efficiency.
재래종 참외 종자 및 생육초기 주요형질의 유전력과 상관관계 분석

This experiment was conducted to obtain some basic imformation for korean native oriental melon breeding. Genetic variability, heritability, and correlation on 13 characters were analyzed. The results are summarized as follows; 1. Among 13 characters, plant height and length of lateral shoot showed high level of GCV(110-362%) and ECV(89-101%). The rest characters showed low level of GCV(7-21%) and ECV(0.16-9%). 2. Heritabilities of 13 characters investigated were high as over 50%. Especially those of hypocotyl length, 100-seed weigth and seed width were very high (> 95%). 3. High level correlation values were observed among seed characters and seedling characters. 4. Plant characters of early growth stage, except leaf stalk length, were not related with characters of seed or seedling 5. In early plant growth stage, plant height and length of lateral shoot were correlated positively with number of node, number of lateral shoot, leaf length and leaf width.
