      • Production of cyclodextrin from various rice starches

        A variety of rice cultivars have been developed and their usages are being expanded to develop value added products in relation to their physicochemical properties. Cyclodextrin (CD), commonly produced from potato starch, is widely used in food and pharmaceutical industries. So far, few studies have been reported on the CD production from rice starches. In this study, the physicochemical properties of various rice starches were investigated and their substrate performance were evaluated for the CD production using cyclodextrin-glucanotransferase (CGTase). Starches of 5 Korean rice cultivars, Dodamssal (DD), Ilpummi (IP), Saegoami (SG), Sintoheukmi (SH), and Geonganghongmi (GH) were isolated by alkaline extraction method. The amylose content of DD and SG was ~66% and ~30%, respectively, while the others ranged from ~18% to ~23%. A similar amylopectin branch chain length distribution was observed in SH, GH, and IP, showing higher content of middle chains B1. SG showed higher content of the short chains A and lower content of the long chains B3+ than SH, GH, and IP, whereas DD showed opposite trends. RVA pasting properties showed the lowest values of peak viscosity, breakdown, and final viscosity in DD. The X-ray diffraction pattern of DD was the typical B-type pattern, whereas the others showed A-type patterns. Most starches had typical polygonal granular shapes, whereas DD showed round shape as revealed by SEM. In order to produce CD, starches were treated with isoamylase, CGTase and glucoamylase in a sequential order. DD showed the highest CD yield of 83% and GH showed the lowest CD yield of 70%. Based on this study, it can be concluded that the starches with high amylose contents tend to show low peak viscosity, high pasting temperature, and high CD production yield.

        In order to reliably perform the function of a smart robot that is developing as a collaborative robot, a precise sensor for sensing external load is required. The torque sensor is a important component that is installed on the joints of the robot to detect and measure the load applied to the arm of each part. In this paper, a low profile torque sensor was designed and the output of the bridge circuit was predicted through strain analysis. Strain analysis was performed and evaluated using the theoretical equation of the beam and finite element analysis. The sensing structural element was designed based on the condition that the rated output of a torque sensor with a maximum torque of 50 N.m is 0.5 mV/V. The normal strain obtained by finite element analysis was calculated to be approximately 35% smaller than that obtained by the beam theory. In the case of short lengths such as the torque sensor of this paper, the shear strain calculated as the average strain throughout the cross section agrees well with the finite element analysis result within 2.63%.

        In this paper, the structure and merits of the binocular type load cell are mentioned, and the principle of deformation of the load cell is assumed to be the deformation behavior of Statically indeterminate, and then theoretically analyzed. In addition, finite element analysis was conducted to determine the suitability of the principle and bending strain was measured. In order to compare this theory through actual experiments, an experimental method of measuring strain by attaching a strain gauge was conducted, and an additional optical analysis was performed. Through the shadow moire experiment, which is a technique, it was possible to draw conclusions by conducting comparisons with numerical methods. As a result of this analysis, the theory and finite element analysis showed an error of about 6.75%, and the basis for assuming negative information was given. have derived However, the shadow moire method showed a difference when compared to the numerical method, and these causes were analyzed and concluded.

        The binocular load cell is widely used for measuring low-capacity loads due to its advantageous features such as a low profile, easy manufacturing process, and the ability to accurately measure strain at the location where the strain gauge is attached. This paper focuses on the design of the load cell's shape and dimensions using beam theory principles. The bending strain generated by the load cell was analyzed through theoretical, numerical, and experimental methods. Finite element analysis was conducted to evaluate the load cell's performance, and the results were compared to the assumptions made in the beam theory. Actual strain gauges were attached to measure and compare the strain, while displacement was analyzed using the shadow moire technique. The strain analysis results obtained through finite element analysis showed good agreement with the strain measurements from the strain gauges, with a difference of less than 5%. The displacement values measured using the shadow moire technique at the strain gauge location of the binocular load cell aligned well with both the strain analysis values obtained through finite element analysis and the strain measurements.

        Multistage centrifugal pumps, known for their high efficiency and capacity to handle high lift and flow requirements, find extensive application across various industries such as chemicals, electric power, construction, and fire protection. In this paper, to evaluate the safety of the centrifugal pump rotor shaft, a structural test was performed to measure the bending strain due to its own weight of the rotor shaft with the impeller assembled. For this purpose, strain gages were attached at 26 points and a strain measurement test was performed while applying a load due to the impeller's dead weight. As a result of the static test, the largest bending stress in the entire rotor shaft was measured to be 17.2 MPa. Considering the shaft material's yield stress of approximately 550 MPa, a safety factor of over 30 was determined. Furthermore, considering the dynamic fatigue conditions, where the applied fatigue limit is 6 to 8 times smaller than the yield stress, the rotor shaft structure was assessed to maintain its safety, even under these conditions.
