Prediction of Travel Time of Fire Service using Kriging and Weighted-sum Technique

The accessibility of city fire services is an important indicator for evaluating fire services and optimizing fire resource allocation. For firefighting, rescue, and first-aid activities, it is recommended that the time from fire vehicles leaving the garage to arrive at the scene is less than 5 minutes. Therefore, the travel time of fire services is one of the main concerns for many researchers. This study assumes that changing the urban environment affects the travel time of fire services. Therefore, in this study, weights were applied over the years to predict the travel time of fire service by using the kriging technique. As a result of the case study, temporal factors (elapsed year, term of travel time, and time spent) did not significantly affect travel time prediction accuracy using the kriging technique. As observed in previous studies, it is confirmed that the prediction accuracy is high because it is less affected by traffic-related factors at short travel distances. The results of this study contribute to the development of spatial analysis techniques to improve the accuracy of travel-time prediction.

Weed control is a crucial practice not only in organic farming, but also in modern agriculture because it can lead to loss in crop yield. In general, weed is distributed in patches heterogeneously in the field. These patches vary in size, shape, and density. Thus, it would be efficient if chemicals are sprayed on these patches rather than spraying uniformly in the field, which can pollute the environment and be cost prohibitive. In this sense, weed detection could be beneficial for sustainable agriculture. Studies have been conducted to detect weed patches in the field using remote sensing technologies, which can be classified into a method using image segmentation based on morphology and a method with vegetative indices based on the wavelength of light. In this study, the latter methodology has been used to detect the weed patches. As a result, it was found that the vegetative indices were easier to operate as it did not need any sophisticated algorithm for differentiating weeds from crop and soil as compared to the former method. Consequently, we demonstrated that the current method of using vegetative index is accurate enough to detect weed patches, and will be useful for farmers to control weeds with minimal use of chemicals and in a more precise manner.

Nitrogen management is crucial for high yield potential of crops as well as reducing environmental pollution. However, the heterogeneity of nitrogen condition. Thus, there have been attempts to estimate nitrogen contents via chlorophyll contents in leaves. Among them, vegetative indices have been proved to be useful. However, there are many kinds of them and each of them reflects different properties. Here, we compared with various indices using one data set to show they are different each other so that researchers who want to use vegetative indices can be aware of this. By doing so, they can develop their own models with the proper indices.
Calcium Intake is Negatively Associated with Bone Loss During Lactation: A Pilot Study

Calcium (Ca) requirements during lactation are unknown. We investigated the association between Ca intake and bone mineral density (BMD) during lactation. Twenty-one pregnant women with singletons (non-breastfeeding [NBF] n=7; breastfeeding [BF] n=14) were enrolled before delivery. Ca intake during the 3rd trimester and 6 months postpartum was assessed by food frequency questionnaire and interview. Maternal BMD was measured by dual energy X-ray absorptiometry at the lumbar spine, femoral neck, trochanter, intertrochanter (IT), and total hip at delivery and weaning (or 6 months postpartum). The association of Ca intake with % change of BMD (%ㅿBMD) and change of Z-score (ㅿZ) were assessed by linear regression and Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient. No association was observed in NBF women. Similarly, %ㅿBMD and 3rd trimester Ca intake were not associated in BF women. However, Ca intake during lactation was positively associated with IT ㅿZ (β: 0.613, p=0.02). Ca:P ratio during lactation was also positively correlated with IT ㅿ%BMD (β: 0.587, p=0.03). Higher intake of Ca during lactation may prevent lactation-related bone loss at the IT.

<P>Highly angiogenic bone marrow mononuclear cell-derived spheroids (BM-spheroids), formed by selective proliferation of the CD31(+) CD14(+) CD34(+) monocyte subset via three dimensional (3D) culture, have had robust angiogenetic capacity in rodent syngeneic renal subcapsular islet transplantation. We wondered whether the efficacy of BM-spheroids could be demonstrated in clinically relevant intraportal islet transplantation models without increasing the risk of portal thrombosis. The thrombogenic potential of intraportally infused BM-spheroids was compared with that of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and MSC-derived spheroids (MSC-spheroids). The angiogenic efficacy and persistence in portal sinusoids of BM-spheroids were examined in rodent syngeneic and primate allogeneic intraportal islet transplantation models. In contrast to MSCs and MSC-spheroids, intraportal infusion of BM-spheroids did not evoke portal thrombosis. BM-spheroids had robust angiogenetic capacity in both the rodent and primate intraportal islet transplantation models and improved post-transplant glycemic outcomes. MRI and intravital microscopy findings revealed the persistence of intraportally infused BM-spheroids in portal sinusoids. Intraportal cotransplantation of allogeneic islets with autologous BM-spheroids in nonhuman primates further confirmed the clinical feasibility of this approach. In conclusion, cotransplantation of BM-spheroids enhances intraportal islet transplantation outcome without portal thrombosis in mice and nonhuman primates. Generating BM-spheroids by 3D culture prevented the rapid migration and disappearance of intraportally infused therapeutic cells.</P>
