Background and Objectives: The aim of the study was to identify the factors associated with life satisfaction of hospitalized Vietnam veterans. Material and Methods: The data were collected from 200 hospitalized Vietnam veterans of 5 veterans hospitals in Korea from September 13 to 23, 2004. Information of general characteristics, health behavior, disease history, family function, depression and life satisfaction were collected by structured questionnaire. Results: The mean of life satisfaction was 21.48(±6.03), and the mean of depression was 53.10(±9.64). The prevalence of depression was mild depression 24.0%, moderate depression 43.5% and severe depression 25.0%. Depression was associated with life satisfaction and depression was higher, life satisfaction was lower. Family function and age were positively associated with life satisfaction, Conclusion: Life satisfaction was affected by depression and family function in hospitalized Vietnam veterans. Therefore, it was thought that psychosocial approaches such as improve depression and family function in care of hospitalized Vietnam veterans is required.

베체트병 환자에서 Azathioprine으로 유발된 급성 췌장염 1례

Although many drug are thought capable of initiating acute pancreatitis, following azathioprine administration represents the 5% incidence by far the highest recorded incidence to date. We report a 35-year-old male who developed acute pancreatitis in the course of treatment with azathioprine for Behcet's disease. He was admitted due to abdominal pain, diarrhea, and fever for 10 days. Serum amylase and lipase levels were 510U/L and 3702U/L respectively. The abdominal CT scan revealed diffuse enlargement of the pancreas. There was no history of alcohol use or gall bladder disease. We considered drugs, especially azathioprine, as the cause of acute pancreatitis. We diagnosed it as acute pancreatitis. The patient was treated conservatively with hydration and analgesics. The symptom subsided within four days. Five days later, azathioprine was resumed. And the patient complained of abdominal pain. The elevated levels of serum amylase and lipase confirmed the recurrence of pancreatitis. His symptom subsided when azathioprine intake the stopped, and the serum amylase and lipase levels returned to normal level within five days.

Idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome is characterized by marked elevation of eosinophil count ( >1,500/㎣) in peripheral blood without explaining etiology. It shows tissue involvement in many organs such as liver, G-I tract, myocar dium, lung, skin, kidney and nerve. Some case of hypereosinophilic syndrome with hepatic involvement have been reported, but not much. We have recently experienced a case with idiopathic hypereosinophilic syndrome of a 40 year old man who presented with RUQ pain. By abdominal CT, ill- defined subcapsular hematoma was detected. Liver biopsy showed eosinophilic infiltration within the portal tract and sinusoid. Drain procedure and corticosteroid adminiiatbrought marked improvement of clinical manifestation, hematologic abnormality and radiologic abnormality.

Asiasari Radix has been used as an analgesic and antitussive agent for treatment of influenza, headache, rheumatic pain and asthma. In order to investigate of the plant on immune response, its fractions(ether, ethyl acetate, butanol, and water) were administered for six days before sensitization, on day 0, and for 4 days from challenge. The changes of body weight(%), organ weight ratio(%) and the numbers of WBC, RBC, ear swelling by dinitrofluorobenzene(DNFB) and the titers of hemaglutination(HA) and hemolysin(HE) to SRBC were determined. The contact delayed type hypersensitivity to DNFB in mice inhibited by aqueous ex. more than methanol ex. The changes of liver and spleen(%) and the numbers of WBC, RBC and HA, HE titers were decreased compared with positive control. Water fraction showed significant inhibition in cellular immune response by ear swelling.

Comparisons of callus formation ratios from seed explants, callus sizes, regeneration ratios from callus and regeneration efficiency for 4 orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.) varieties (Three were developed in Korea and one was imported from foreign nation) are as follows; Jangbeol 102 (67.0%) has the highest callus formation ratio in 4 weeks incubated callus after bedding the seed explants, but Potomac (68.4%) has the highest ratio in 6-seek callus. Potomac (3.93cm) has the highest callus size in 4-week callus, but Jangbeol 101 (4.32cm) has the highest size in 6-week callus. Jangbeol 101 (17.7%) has the highest plant regeneration ratio in 4-week callus, but Potomac (37.4%) has the highest raion in 6-week callus. Jangbeol 102 (11.5%) has the highest plant regeneration efficiency in 4-week callus, but Potomac (25.6%) has the highest efficiency in 6-week callus.

서울 단일 지역의 Helicobacter pylori 1차 제균율과 2차 제균율의 변화

Objectives: To investigate the rate of first-line eradication and the rate of second-line eradication of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) from 2001 to 2010 in a single institute in Seoul. Methods: Among the 2,717 patients who received H. pylori eradication treatment from 2001 to 2010 at Ewha Womans University Mokdong Hospital, the medical records of 1,466 patients who satisfied the condition of execution of upper gastrointestinal endoscopy, positive H. pylori eradication results at 6~8 weeks after eradication therapy were reviewed retrospectively. Then the first-line and second-line eradication rates and the eradication rates according to endoscopy findings were also compared. Results: The first-line eradication rate was 77% H. pylori eradication rate for the last 5 years was continuously increasing and no sign of decline was observed even for the whole 10 years. The rates of eradication related to endoscopic findings showed statistical significance (P<0.001) of 79.8% and 70.1% each for peptic ulcer and non-ulcerative gastric diseases, respectively. Conclusion: In this study, no decrease in tendency of first-line eradication rate could be found. In addition, the patients with the non-ulcerative gastric disease seemed to show significantly lower eradication rate. This finding suggests eradication treatment may be affected by the category of gastric diseases, and careful considerations should be taken assessing the effects and needs for the H. pylori eradication treatment.

As Jerry's death in The Zoo Story is shocking, the motives of his death are not at all convincing. This led many critics to argue the meaning of his death and explain it in various ways. This paper attempts to reexamine other possible motives of Jerry's death focusing on his desire and its functions in relation to Lacan's concept of desire and narcissism. Jerry's desire is to have a meaningful relationship with someone. However, he knows how hard it is. Jerry tries to have a meaningful relationship with the dog at the rooming house where he stays. But when Jerry fails to build the relationship with the dog by serving it hamburger meat, Jerry attempts to kill the dog with poisoned meat. After this incident, the dog ignores Jerry. Jerry attempts to have a relationship with a man, who happens to be Peter. Jerry, however, treats Peter the same way he treated the dog. Jerry is violent, both verbally and physically, to Peter. Jerry wants to impose his desire on Peter. In doing so, Jerry kills himself. His suicide is reflective of his narcissism according to Lacan. In his attack on Peter, Jerry sees Peter not as an individual but as a representative of the American middle class. Jerry sees Peter as the Other of the Symbolic, an object of an attack, which often appears in the action of a narcissistic person.

The following conclusion has been derived from the foregoing results of analysis and observation. First, we found, in this proposed system, reliability, objecivity, and individuality. Second, this type of system must be able to measure numerable testees. Third, testees are regulated that they are brought to the same condition in which their willful adventage are not allowed, Fourth, when considering the foundamental physical strength and skills can be evaluated in general throughout all skills areas of physical education, the following items of skills are recognized to have the advantages and disadvantages which relatively lack or relieve one another. In his Pulitzer prize-winning play, Three Tall Women (1994), Edward Albee examines his relationship with his adoptive mother, Frances Albee. As her type is not an unfamiliar character in Albee's plays, the way her type is presented differs from the way in other plays. Albee uses new and unique dramatic and theatrical techniques in presenting the character. This paper examines these techniques and their effects. Three Tall Women is composed of two acts. Act I is realistic in characterization and mood, whereas Act Ⅱ is expressionistic and Brechtian. Three women of Act I reappear as three ages of the same woman in Act Ⅱ. In Act Ⅱ they talk with each other about their lives and occasionally they come out to the front of the stage to talk directly to the audience. Thus, they tear down the invisible wall between the stage and the audience. Besides, there is Mannequin "A" in bed and a young man on stage. They do not talk with three women, but they stay on stage till the end of the play They create a dream-like and expressionistic mood and play the role of the audience on stage as well. The dramatic and theatrical techniques aim to encourage the audience to actively participate in the dramatic experience. In addition, they are used to raise the consciousness of the audience to improve the society.
