        Kang, Hoo Dong. 2021. “The Effects of American Peace Corps on English Education and Socio-education in Korea in the Newspapers.” J ournal of British & American Language, Literature & E ducation 35(1), 27-49. The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of Peace Corps on English education and socio-educational aspect in the Korean Peninsula in Korean newspapers. For this study, 127 newspaper articles from 1966 to 2015 were collected from the Chosun Ilbo, the Dong-A Ilbo, the Chungang Ilbo archives, Korea Times, and so on. The collected articles showed the significant influence of Peace Corps activities on the life patterns of Korean people during this period. The results of the study reveal that the Peace Corps’ service in Korea contributed to and influenced on the life of not only their students but also participants themselves as Peace Corps in various aspects. This study categorizes the influences into five domains: 1) diplomatic relations, 2) spread of Korean culture, language, and literature, 3) religious activities in English, 4) friendship and more, 5) the effect of English education. The study concluded that the articles of Korean newspapers more highlighted the effects of Peace Corps on other domains above rather than on English education, even though their duties more heavily focused on English education.

        구성주의에 기초한 멀티미디어활용 학교 영어방송활동

        This study aims to present an activity model of easily developing and interacting with schoolwide English broadcasting(EB) programs based on Constructivism. The study also investigates how students perceive these activities as learning activities. The tools of EB program production include the instruments and facilities of information and communication such as video cassette recorders, video cameras, TV monitors, video editing machines, lighting, and computers. This study presents that the characteristics of the English broadcasting activities(EBAs) are task-based, performance-based, and learner-centered, and these characteristics of the EBAs can be helpful to overcome the difficulties in using media in the classroom. The results of the questionnaire shows the EBAs are especially emphasizing listening and speaking skills even though the ERAs are helpful to improve reading and writing skills as well. The results also indicate that the EBAs strongly lead students to acquire communicative skills rather than sentence analyzing and translation skills. The study suggests that broadcasting, communications, and computers should be integrated to be more useful.

        스프렌딜 지속정(펠로디핀 5㎎)에 대한 스타핀 지속정의 생물학적동등성

        Felodipine is a calcium antagonist that lowers blood pressure by reducing peripheral resistance by means of a direct, selective action on smooth muscle in arterial resistance vessels. Furthermore, it have been approved for the effective in angina pectoris and cardiac failure. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the bioequivalence of two felodipine extended release (ER) tablets, Splendil (YuHan Corporation) and Stapin (Hana Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd.), according to the guidelines of Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA). THe felodipine release from the two felodipine formulations in vitro was tested using KP Ⅷ Apparatus Ⅱ method at pH 6.5 buffer solution. Twenty six healthy male subjects, 22.73±1.78 years in age and 66.66±7.28 ㎏ in body weight, were divided into two groups and a randomized 2×2 cross-over study was employed. After two tablets containing 5 ㎎ as felodipine were orally administered, blood sample was taken at predetermined time intervals and the concentrations of felodipine in serum were determined using column-switching HPLC method with UV detector. The dissolution profiles of two formulations were similar at pH 6.5 buffer solution. Besides, the pharmacokinetic parameters such as AUG_(t), C_(max) and T_(max) were calculated and ANOVA test was utilized for the statistical analysis of the parameters using logarithmically transformed AUC_(t) and C_(max) and untransformed T_(max). The results showed that the differences between two formulations based on the Splendil were 2.53%, 1.32% and 18.32% for AUC_(t), C_(max) and T_(mzx), respectively. There were no sequence effects between two formulations in these parameters. The 90% confidence intervals using logarithmically transformed data were within the acceptance range of log(0.8) to log(1.25) (e.g., log(0.86)∼log(1.20) and long(0.89)∼long(1.23) for AUC_(t) and C_(max), respectively). Thus, the criteria of the KFDA guidelines for the bioequivalence was satisfied, indicating Stapin ER tablet and Splendil ER tablet are bioequivalent.

        Elementary English Teachers' Perception of and Preference for E-learning Media

        본 연구는 설문조사를 통해 초등에서 영어를 가르치고 있는 교사들의 이러닝 매체에 대한 인식과 선호도를 조사하고자 했다. 교과서 CD, 영어교육용 CD, 포럴 사이트, 영어교육 웹 사이트, 웹 EBS, EBS TV, 학교 홈페이지, 교사의 개인 홈페이지, 등의 8가지 유형에 대한 교사의 선호도를 비교하였다. 초등에서 영어를 가르치고 있는 교사가 자신의 영어수업을 위한 자료와 관련해 가장 선호하는 웹사이트가 무엇인지도 알아보았다. 최근 경상남도의 82개 초등학교에서 현재 영어를 가르치고 있는 164명의 교사를 무작위로 선정하여 설문조사가 이루어 졌다. 해당교사의 근무연수에 따른 응답의 차이도 조사에 포함하였다. 연구결과로서 아직까지 영어교육용 CD와 교과서 CD가 가장 수업에 활용하기 효과적인 이러닝 매체라고 조사되었다. 응답 교사들은 웹 EBS, EBS TV, 학교 홈페이지, 교사 개인 홈페이지보다는 영어교육전문 웹 사이트, 영어교육 자료가 탑재되어 있는 포털 사이트를 더 선호하였다. 교사들은 아직까지 학교 홈페이지와 교사 개인 홈페이지는 다른 영어교육관련 웹 사이트 보다 많은 점들이 개선되어야 할 것으로 응답하였다. 설문결과를 통해 초등영어교사들이 초등영어교육을 위해 현재 가장 선호하는 웹 사이트들이 무엇인지 알아보았다. 또한 그러한 웹 사이트를 선호하는 이유를 알아본 바 초등영어교사들은 교과서 진도와 맞게 자료를 올려놓은 웹 사이트와 수업활동에 바로 적용할 수 있도록 만들어진 자료를 많이 올려놓은 웹 사이트들을 선호하고 있는 것으로 나타났다.

        Perceptions of and Preferences for English Language Teaching among Pre-service Teachers of EFL

          Pre-service teachers’ beliefs and perceptions of teaching can influence their future teaching in schools. In this respect, it is important for teacher trainers to understand how pre-service teachers think about themselves as teachers and guide them to have more positive views on teaching. At present, however, little is known about perceptions of Korean pre-service teachers of English as a foreign language (EFL). This article reports the results of a study, looking at the similarities and differences between elementary and secondary pre-service English teachers’ perceptions of teaching in Korea. A total of 137 pre-service teachers from a teachers’ college and a college of education responded to a questionnaire about their motivations for becoming a teacher and their perceptions of teaching. The findings of the study suggest that, while the two groups had similar motivations for becoming a <BR>teacher and goals of EFL teaching, the two groups showed statistically significant differences in the following areas: their roles in choosing teaching materials, the consideration of students’ individual differences, the importance of teachers’ speaking and comprehension skills in English, the teaching of culture of English-speaking countries, the use of the Internet for teaching EFL, the consideration of some instrumental factors in designing an English course and their selection of certain teaching activities.

        Online Support for Oral Presentation Skills in a Framework of Portfolio Assessment

        The goal of this study is to provide a model for implementing portfolio assessment in college English education. Since models for performance-based instruction are lacking in Korean English education. this study insists this model be easily applied at the college level where the student learning process can be more easily evaluated than secondary schools. This study provides a framework for portfolio assessment to overcome its existing weaknesses in reliability and validity with online support. The framework includes online support for students to easily access to native speaker models with the easily editable and documentable digital image processing. This paper concretely presents a model of web productions that helps students' listening and speaking practice while implementing learner-centered and process-oriented portfolio assessment. In this study. the self-assessment and peer activity assessment helped students not only improve their ways of speaking presentation. but also build their confidence in speaking in front of others.
