Augmented reality-based remote coaching for fast-paced physical task

<P>One popular application of augmented reality (AR) is the real-time guidance and training in which the AR user receives useful information by a remote expert. For relatively fast-paced tasks, presentation of such guidance in a way that the recipient can make immediate recognition and quick understanding can be an especially challenging problem. In this paper, we present an AR-based tele-coaching system applied to the game of tennis, called the AR coach, and explore for interface design guidelines through a user study. We have evaluated the player's performance for instruction understanding when the coaching instruction was presented in four different modalities: (1) Visual-visual only, (2) Sound-aural only/mono, (3) 3D Sound-aural only/3D and (4) Multimodal-both visual and aural/mono. Results from the experiment suggested that, among the three, the visual-only augmentation was the most effective and least distracting for the given pace of information transfer (e.g., under every 3 s). We attribute such a result to the characteristic of the visual modality to encode and present a lot of information at once and the human's limited capability in handling and fusing multimodal information at a relatively fast rate.</P>
Design and application of 2D illusory vibrotactile feedback for hand-held tablets

<P>In this study, we investigate whether the 'out of body' vibrotactile illusion known as funneling could be applied to enrich and thereby improve the interaction performance on a tablet-sized media device. First, a series of pilot tests was taken to determine the appropriate operational conditions and parameters (such as the tablet size, holding position, minimal required vibration amplitude, and the effect of matching visual feedback) for a two-dimensional (2D) illusory tactile rendering method. Two main experiments were then conducted to validate the basic applicability and effectiveness of the rendering method, and to further demonstrate how the illusory tactile feedback could be deployed in an interactive application and actually improve user performance. Our results showed that for a tablet-sized device (e.g., iPad mini and iPad), illusory perception was possible (localization performance of up to 85%) using a rectilinear grid with a resolution of 5 7 (grid size: 2.5 cm) with matching visual feedback. Furthermore, the illusory feedback was found to be a significant factor in improving the user performance in a 2D object search/attention task.</P>
High-Efficiency Push–Pull Power Amplifier With High Operation Voltage

<P>A highly efficient push-pull class D power amplifier (PA) with a high operation voltage is presented. The high voltage is realized by stacking dc biases of two push-pull amplifiers through the virtual ground point, while the radio frequency powers are series combined. The drain supply voltage is increased to 44V, which is double of the rated bias voltage (22V) of the active devices. The LDMOS PA provides an output power of 40.6dBm with a power-added efficiency (PAE) of 58.7% at 836.5MHz. Each push-pull amplifier provides 38-dBm output with a PAE of 64%</P>

CrN/AlN multilayer coatings with various bilayer periods in the range of 1.8 to 7.4 nm were synthesized using a closed-field unbalanced magnetron sputtering method. Their crystalline structure, chemical compositions and mechanical properties have been investigated with Auger electron spectroscopy, X-ray diffractometry, atomic force microscopy, nanoindentation, scratch tests. The properties of the multilayer coatings varied strongly depending upon the magnitude of the bilayer period. The multilayer coating with a bilayer period of 1.8 nm showed the maximum hardness and an elastic modulus of approximately 37.6 and 417 GPa, respectively, which was 1.54 times higher than the hardness predicted by the rule of mixture from the CrN and AlN coatings. The hardness of the multilayer coating increased as the bilayer period decreased, i.e. as the rotation speed increased. The Hall-Petch type relationship, hardness being related to (1/periodicity)?“1/2, suggested by Lehoczky was confirmed for the CrN/AlN multilayer coatings with bilayer period close to the 5-10 nm range. With decreasing bilayer period, the surface morphology of the films became rougher and the critical load of films for adhesion strength gradually decreased.

21세기 우리는 디지털 시대에 살고 있다. 세계는 정보통신기술분야의 비약적인 발전과 지속적인 세계화에 따른 경쟁이 심화되고 있다. IT 강국으로 불리는 우리나라도 이러한 디지털 시대에 매거진 산업 역시 디지털 기반으로 전환해 나가야 할 중요한 시점에 있다. 산업혁명 이후 발전하기 시작한 매거진은 그 시대의 사회와 문화를 대변하며 하루가 다르게 변해가는 미디어 환경으로 매거진 업계도 변화가 되고 있다. 본 논문은 태블릿 PC, 모바일, 인터넷을 위한 디지털 전용 매거진의 색채를 분석하였다. 그 결과 매거진의 제목으로 아이덴티티를 알려주는 가장 중요한 제호는 배경 이미지에 따라 다양한 컬러로 사용되고 있었으며 대부분 2색 배색을 사용하고 특히, 무채색과 난색계의 컬러를 주로 사용하였다. 전체 매거진 표지의 색채를 배색 띠로 만들어 이미지 형용사 공간에서 분석한 결과는 경쾌한, 귀여운, 화려한, 은은한, 내츄럴한, 다이나믹한, 모던한 이미지로 다양하게 사용되고 있다. 이는 젊은 남성층을 타겟으로 하는 IT, 게임, 자동차라는 다양한 콘텐츠를 담고 있는 매거진 특성상 한 가지 색채 이미지가 아닌 다양한 색채 이미지 공간속에서 표현되고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 하지만, 디지털 전용 매거진의 이러한 컬러 배색은 획일성이 없어 보이며 앞으로 매거진의 아이덴티티 확립을 위한 색채 사용에 있어 명확한 기준이 필요할 것으로 보인다.
