FEAD (Front End Accessory Drive) system is one of sub-systems in engine and accessory drive belt is used to drive the Alternator, Air conditioning compressor, Power steering pump and Water pump by transmitting power from the Crankshaft pulley. Generally Auto-Tensioner provides a damped, spring-loaded constant belt tension to the belt and compensates for wear and stretch. On the other hand, Lock-center drive (w/o Auto-tensioner system) has been used in emerging market for cost saving or limited space where Auto-tensioner is mounted due to the package restriction of small engine/vehicle. Lock-center drive system is difficulty to maintain the constant belt tension and belt re-tension is required periodically. However, Low modulus cord belt can provide a stable belt tension with sufficient stretch to prevent slip under all dimensional, temperature and wear/stretch conditions. Normally low modulus cord belt is used to fixed 2-axis pulleys drive and installed with special installation tool to avoid belt damage and over stretching in assembly plant and service. This paper confirmed the possibility of low modulus cord belt application in multiple 4-pulleys drive system. And new belt installation procedure “Clock and Lock” has been developed the world’s first to replace special installation tool.
