        The purpose of the present study was to investigate the relationship between isokinetic muscle function and muscle cross-sectional area (CSA). Twelve women participated in the present study, divided young (n=6, 23.7±1.9 year) and elderly women (n=6, 60.3±6.8 year). Isokinetic strength (power, strength, endurance) and CSA (psoas major and thigh muscles) measured with dynamometer and computerized tomograph, respectively. Cross-sectional area of psoas major muscle in elderly group revealed markedly smaller than in young group, but thigh muscle was not the case. Muscle CSA in young women correlated between power and endurance and psoas major muscle, as well as between muscle strength and CSA of thigh muscle. But no correlation occurred between strength and cross sectional area, except endurance which was highly correlated between CSA and endurance. In conclusion, aging decreases muscle function and CSA. Partially muscle strength correlated with muscle CSA in young women, but no correlation occurred in elderly women. Further study needed to elucidate the exact mechanism related to aging muscle with muscle density and neuromuscular function.

        Structures, Nanomechanics, and Disintegration of Single-Wall GaN Nanotubes: Atomistic Simulations

        We have investigated the structural, mechanical, and thermal properties of single-walled GaN nanotubes by using atomistic simulations and a Tersoff-type potential. The Tersoff potential for GaN eectively describes the properties of GaN nanotubes. The nanomechanics of GaN nanotubes under tensile and compressive loadings have also been investigated, and Young's modulus has been calculated. The caloric curves of single-walled GaN nanotubes can be divided into three regions corresponding to nanotubes, the disintegrating range, and vapor. Since the stability or the stiness of a tube decreases with increasing curving sheet-to-tube strain energy, the disintegration temperatures of GaN nanotubes are closely related to the curving sheet-to-tube strain energy.

      • 인버터 구동시의 유도전동기의 정상상태특성

        In this paper. the Γ type eqivalent circuit is used to analyze the steady state characteristics of induction motor driven by inverter source. The base tests for equivalent circuit parameters of induction motor are a no-load test by rated frequency (60Hz) and a blocked rotor test by 25% of rated frequency (15Hz) which are perfomed with inverter source. and measurement of the de resistance of the stator winding. To determine more accurate parameters, four simultaneous equations obtained from equivalent circuit of the no-load test and blocked rotor test are solved by using initial values which are evaluated from simplifed equivalent circuits. The induction motor performances are computed by using these parameters and compared with measured values of the tested motor. Then it is found that the compared results show good agreement between them.

        In this paper, we propose the technique for recognizing the human's emotion by using the color image. To do this, Detect face using skin color abstraction method from color image. And we propose the method for finding man's feature points(eyebrows, eye, nose, mouse) from the face image and the geometrical method for recognizing human's emotion (surprise, anger, happiness, sadness) from the structural correlation of man's feature points. The proposed method in this paper recognize the human's emotion by the Fuzzy. Finally, we have proven the effectiveness of the proposed method through the experimentation.

      • 5종의 식물표면에서 분리한 Pseudomonas syringae의 빙핵활성

        경상북도 안동시 안동대학교 인근에 자생하는 쑥, 냉이, 개나리, 벚나무 및 사과나무의 새싹표면에 서식하는 빙핵활성세균이 분리되었다. 이 세균현탁액의 supercooling point는 -4℃내지 -6℃였으며, 빙핵활성세균이 형태 및 생리적 특성을 조사한 결과 Pseudomonas syringae로 동정되었다. Ice nucleation active bacteria were isolated from the shoots or young leaves of altemisia princeps, Capsella brusa-pastoria, Forsythia koreana, Prunus sp. and Malus pumila var. ducissima nearby Andong National University, Kyeongbuk, Korea. The isolates were identified as Pseudimonas syringae based on their morphological and physiological characteristics.

        八味地黃丸과 六味地黃丸의 效能에 關한 文獻的 考察

        八味地黃丸과 六味地黃丸은 漢代 張仲景의 〈金궤要略〉과 宋代 錢乙의 〈小兒樂證直訣〉에 각각 처음 收錄된 이래 歷代 醫學에 八味地黃丸은 腎陰虛에 사용되어 왔으며 六味地黃丸은 腎陽虛에 사용되는 處方으로 기록되어 왔다. 이에 저자는 腎陽虛 및 腎陰虛에 광범위하게 應用되는 八味地黃丸과 六味地黃丸의 效能, 主治, 現代 臨床活用, 藥理作用에 대해 考察하였다. 그 결과 八味地黃丸 效能은 溫和腎氣, 溫補腎陽하며, 六味地黃丸 效能은 滋腎陰 補肝血 制火로 要約할 수 있었으며, 八味地黃丸은 腎氣不足, 腎陽不足으로 인한 面色蒼白, 頭昏, 耳鳴, 腰酸脚軟, 身半以下常有冷感, 小便不利 或 頻數 脈沈遲 或虛弱, 消渴, 水腫, 久泄, 轉胞, 男子陽위 또는 女子子宮虛寒으로 인한 不姙, 舌淡笞白 等의 諸般 證狀을 治療하는데 사용되어 왔으며, 八味地黃丸은 腎陰不足이나 肝腎不足으로 인한 陰虛發熱을 포함한 骨蒸潮熱 或 手心煩熱, 頭目眩??, 耳??, 咽喉燥痛, 齒牙不固, 腰腿수軟, 遺精, 消渴, 舌紅少苔 或 無苔 脈細, 少便淋閉, 五臟虧損, 自汗溫汗, 諸血 等의 諸般 證狀을 治療하는데 활용되었음을 알 수 있었다. 최근에는 泌尿器系疾患, 高血壓, 糖尿病, 精神疾患, 老人性 眼疾患, 慢性 呼吸器疾患 等에 八味地黃丸과 六味地黃丸이 공통적으로 活用되고 있으며, 性機能 및 生殖器疾患 등에는 八味地黃丸이 活用되며, 甲狀腺機能亢進症, 消花器系, 癌類, 小兒 營養不良 等에는 六味地黃丸이 活用되고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 아울러 八味地黃丸과 六味地黃丸의 藥理作用은 모두 血壓降下, 糖代謝 改善, 肝機能 改善, 腎機能 改善, 혈중 脂質代謝 改善, 免役機能 增强作用이 있으며, 八味地黃丸은 그 외에 Glutathion代謝 影響, 호르몬 影響, 耐寒性 增加, 腦下垂體-副腎皮質機能 改善 等이 있으며, 六味地黃丸은 그 외에 癌誘發 抑制作俑, Interferon 誘導作用 等이 있음을 알 수 있었다. Palmijihwanghan(PJH) and Yukmijihwanghan(YJH) has been widely used as the basic priscriptions for the deficiency of Yin and Yang of kidney. So the study has been carried out to investigate the effects, symptoms, indications and pharmacology of the PJH and YJH. The result of this study were as follows: 1. The effect of PJH is warming and regulation the kidney-Qi and warming and strengthen the kidney-Yang. While the effect of YJH is nourishing the kidney-Yin, nourishing the liver-blood and managing the fire. 2. PJH is used for the treatment of such symptoms caused by dificiency of the kidney-Qi or the kidney-Yang as facial pallidness. dizziness and tinnitus, back pain and leg weakness, cold sensation in lower body, dysuria or urinary frequency, deep and slow or feeble pulse, thirst, edema, persistent diarrhea, painful urination, impotence, dizziness and tinnitus, dry and painful throat, weakness of the teeth, back pain and leg weakness, emmision, thirst, flushed tongue without fur, feeble pulse, dysuria, weakness of the five viscera, spontaneous sweating, perspiration during sleep, and bleeding, which are caused by deficiency of the kidney-Yin or the function of kidney and liver. 3. Both PJH and YJH have been commonly used for treatment of disease of urinary tract disease, hypertension, diabetic mellitus, psychopathy, chronic pulmonary disease. While PJH is applied for the sexual and genital disorders, YJH is for hyperthyrodism, mass in the digestive system and children's malnutrition. 4. The pharmacology of PJH and YJH is commonly the lowering the blood pressure, promoting the glycometabolism, renal function and lipid metabolism, and increasing the immune function. Besides PJH affects on the glutathion metabolism, and hormonal function, increases the cold tolerance ability and improves the function of the pituitary-adrenal cortex, while YJH has the effects of inhibiting the carciogenic action and inducing the interferon secreation.

      • 치료적 마사지 프로그램이 섬유근통 증후군의 통증평가척도에 미치는 영향

        According to the classification criteria proposed by the American College of Rheumatology, fibromyalgia is a long-standing multifocal pain condition combined with generalised allodynia/hyperalgesia. It is the generalised allodynia/hyperalgesia that distinguishes fibromyalgia from other conditions with chronic musculoskeletal pain. Central sensitisation of nociceptive neurons in the dorsal horn due to activation of N-methyl-D-aspartic acid receptors and disinhibition of pain due to deficient function of the descending inhibitory system are probable pathogenic factors for allodynia/hyperalgesia. Furthermore, chronic pain is a chronic emotional and physical stressor. Chronic stress and chronic sleep disturbance are not specific for fibromyalgia but could be the causes of symptoms like fatigue, cognitive difficulties and other stress-related symptoms. They may also cause neuroendocrinological and immunological aberrations. The purpose of this study is to find out the effects of pain rating scale in the therapeutic massage program applied to the patients with Fibromyalgia Syndrome by measuring, assessing and analyzing the changes in intensity and unpleasantness of muscle pains before and after therapeutic massage program. Surveyed from Mar. 2003 to Feb. 2004 were 83 patients suffering from Fibromyalgia Syndrome. In the massage program, such methods as effleurage, petrissage and deep transverse friction were selected as traditional massage treatments frequently used for muscles with pain and spasm. Massage treatments were applied for 20 minutes in total before and after stretching in total program 30 minutes. After therapeutic massage program, the McGill pain questionnaire word list(MPQWL), verbal rating scale(VRS), visual analogue scale(VAS) were used to measure the degree of the pain on the patients. The major findings from this study are as follows; 1. The surveyed patients range from 19 to 62 in age, with highest numbers of 35(42.17%) registered in the thirties and next ones of 20(24.10%) in the forties. Divided by sex, 19 are men and 64 are women totalling 83 with average age of 36.5. 2. There was significant decrease in the numerical values of VAS & VRS and MPQWL after therapeutic massage program(p<.05). 3. There was significant decrease in the intensity of pains after therapeutic massage program(p<.05). 4. There was significant decrease in the unpleasantness of pains after therapeutic massage program(p<.05). 5. From the analysis into chronological changes in the intensity and unpleasantness of pains before and after therapeutic massage program with ANOVA, it became evident that the longer the period of treatment was, the higher the pains decreases drastically, while significant difference was shown in the intensity and unpleasantness of pains(p<.05). Summed up, it can be generally concluded that therapeutic massage program is an effective treatment to rid the patients with Fibromyalgia Syndrome of pains safely and promptly.

      • 허혈성 심질환에서 염증지표에 관한 연구

        Background : Atherosclerosis is the chief underlying cause of ischemic heart disease and there is increasing evidence that inflammation is an important determinant of the development of atherosclerosis. We assessed the levels of inflammatory markers in patients with ischemic heart disease and normal group who has normal coronary angiograms. Materials and Methods : Coronary angiography was performed in 142 patients. 107 patients of ischemic heart disease(stable angina pectoris 58, unstable angina pectoris 30, Acute myocardial infarction 19) and 38 normal control subjects. We assessed the level of inflammatory markers, such as CRP, ESR, fibrinogen and leukocyte. Results : CRP, ESR and fibrinogen values of the patients with stable angina pectoris and unstable angina pectoris were higher than that of normal control group, but there were no statistical significance. Leukocyte value of the patients with unstable angina pectoris(9003.3±701.5/mm^(3)) was significantly higher than that of the patients with stable angina pectoris(6685.5±245.8/mm^(3)) and normal control subjects(6394.3±235.1/mm^(3)). CRP, ESR and fibrinogen values of the patients with acute myocardial infarction were also higher than that of normal control subjects. CRP was 3.88±2.05 mg/dL in acute mocardial infarction group, and 0.29±0.15 mg/dL in normal control subject group(p<0.05). Fibrinogen was 541.6±45.1 mg/dL in acute myocardial infarction group, 321.4±25.6 mg/dL in normal control subject group(p<0.05). Leukocyte was 10942.1±737.6/mm^(3) in acute myocardial infarction group, 6394.3±235.1/mm^(3) in normal control subject group(p<0.05). Conclusions : This study demonstrate that CRP, fibrinogen and leukocyte values of acute myocardial infarction group were significantly higher than that of control group and stable, unstable argina pectoris group. Leucokyte values were significantly elevated in unstable angina group, but CRP values were not in unstable angina group.

      • 산삼 배양액 급여가 돈육의 이화학적 특성에 미치는 영향

        Berkshire를 이용하여 70일간 산삼 배양액 급여 시 육의 이화학적 특성에 미치는 영향은 다음과 같다. 산삼 배양액의 급여에 의해 육의 수분, 조단백, 조지방, 회분, pH, 가열감량, 콜레스테롤 함량, 육색, 조직감의 응집성과 검성, 포화지방산 및 불포화지방산의 비율은 차이를 보이지 않았다. 보수력, 지방색 L^(*)값, 지방산 중 linoleic acid(18:2), arachidonic acid(20:4), 필수지방산의 함량, 아미노산 중 threonine, glutamic acid, valine, isoleucine, leucine, histidine, lysine 및 총아미노산 함량은 산삼 배양액의 급여에 의해 감소하였다. 전단가, 조직감의 표면경도, 경도, 씹힘성, 지방산 중 stearic acid(18:0), oleic acid(18:1) 함량, 아미노산 중 serine, glycine, cystine, methionine, tyrosine 및 phenylalanine의 함량은 산삼 배양액의 급여에 의해 증가하였다. 본 연구결과를 종합하면 산삼 배양액의 급여는 돈육의 경도를 증가시키는 효과 외에 뚜렷한 이화학적인 차이를 나타내지 않았다. 이러한 이유는 급여된 산삼 배양액 내에 함유된 생리활성 물질의 함량이 낮고, 급여수준이 낮은 결과로 사료되어진다. A total of 60 pigs (Berkshire) were used to investigate the effect of dietary artificial culture medium of wild ginsengs (CMG) on physico-chemical characteristics of pork. About 60 kg pigs were randomly alloted into one of two experimental diet groups (C:commercial diet feed; T:commercial diet + 1 L CMG per day for 70days). Pigs were slaughtered at approximately 110 kg live weight, and chemical composition and physico-chemical characteristics were measured in pork loin. Moisture, crude protein, crude fat and ash were not significantly different by dietary artificial culture medium of wild ginsengs. Water-holding capacity was decreased by dietary artificial culture medium of wild ginsengs, while shear force was increased. However, pH, cooking loss and cholesterol contents were not significantly different between two different treatments. In color, L^(*) of fat was decreased by dietary artificial culture medium of wild ginsengs. Brittleness, hardness and chewiness were increased in dietary artificial culture medium of wild ginsengs group. In fatty acid, stearic acid (18:0) and oleic acid (18:1) were higher in dietary artificial culture medium of wild ginsengs group, whereas linoleic acid (18:2) and arachidonic acid (20:4) were higher in control group. In amino acid, serine, glycine, cystine, methionine, tyrosine and phenylalanine were higher in dietary artificial culture medium of wild ginsengs group, whereas threonine, glutamic acid, valine, isoleucine, leucine, histidine and lysine were higher in control group.
