      • Farmers behaviors toward pesticides use: insight from a field study in Oriental Morocco

        Jamal Benaboud,Mostafa Elachour,Jamal Oujidi,Abdelhafid Chafi 환경독성보건학회 2021 환경독성보건학회지 Vol.36 No.1

Pesticides are a vital component of modern agriculture. So, these chemical compounds could play a crucial role in maintaining high agricultural productivity. However, high-input intensive agricultural production systems in which more effective and widespread use of pesticides could harm human health and the environment. As we know, most of the farmers in developing countries used pesticides without taking the necessary precautions. The present study aims to assess farmers knowledge and understand the pattern of use of pesticides in Oriental Morocco. We based our approach on a standardized questionnaire with 140 farmers to evaluate their knowledge, attitude, and awareness about the pictograms used on pesticide labels. The results show that the farmer had a low level of education; only 14% were in university. More than 65% overuse pesticides and 60% did not respect the pre-harvest interval. Many farmers did not know the standard pictograms used on pesticide labels, 90% acknowledged only the crossbones and the fire sign, and 33% gave false interpretation or misunderstood these pictograms. These results show that the farmers in Eastern Morocco seem to be ignorant of pesticide danger and lack of safety education. They have no idea how to deal with the pictogram on the pesticide label. Pesticide safety education is necessary to induce protective behavior among farmers and prevent the residue of pesticides in foodstuff. The comprehension of pictograms on pesticide labels is crucial to reduce the risk of poisoning.

      • Poster Session : PS 0415 ; Infectious Disease ; QuantiRERON-TB Gold In-Tube in the Prevalence of Latent Tuberculosis Infection among Healthy Saudi Population

( Jamal Al Wakeel ),( Ziyad Makoshi ),( Mohammed Al Ghonaim ),( Ali Al Harbi ),( Abdulkareem Al Suwaida ),( Farjah Algahtani ),( Mogbil Al Hedaithy ),( Sultan Almogairin ),( Sami Habiballa Abdullah ) 대한내과학회 2014 대한내과학회 추계학술발표논문집 Vol.2014 No.1

Background: Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection is the result of large number of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Saudi Arabia has an incidence rate ranged between8.6 and 12.2/100,000. QuantiFERON-TB Gold in-tube is approved to detect latent tuberculosis infection and TB disease. We conduct this study to estimate the prevalence of latent Tuberculosis in healthy population in Saudi Arabia and detect the sensitivity, specifi city and positive and negative predictive values for QuantiFERON-TB Gold in-tube. Methods: A cross-sectional study of blood sampling for QuantiFERON-TB Gold intube testing took from healthy blood donor were recruited from blood bank at King Saud University (KSU) and volunteers from Riyadh region, with further contact and follow up for positive results for two years for activation of latent tuberculosis. The study supported by King Saud University and King Abdul-Aziz City for Science and Technology. Project number ARP-245-29. Results: The study consists of 563 participants, their mean age was 34.2±13.17 year, 292 (51.9 %) male and mean BMI was 27.5 ±5.53 kg/m2. 363 (65.6%) had a BCG scar, the contact to the TB patients represented by 33 (5.9%) and 7 (1.2%) had a previous TB infection. Positive result for QFT-GIT was found in 72 (12.8%) participants, 48 (69.6%) of them had a BCG scar, only 2 (2.8%) and 4 (5.6%) had history of previous TB and contact of TB patients, respectively. Our study showed sensitivity of 90.62% (75-98%) and specificity of 91.53% (89-94%) with a positive predictive value of 39.19% (28-51%) and negative predictive value of 99.39% (98-99.9%) Conclusions: In face of reduction of the limits of other technique, QFT-GIT is not a signifi cant in diagnosis of latent TB. However, it is signifi cant in ruling out the presence of disease.

Heterogeneous Responses to China and Oil Shocks: the G7 Stock Markets

( Jamal Bouoiyour ),( Refk Selmi ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 2018 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.33 No.3

Given its size and integration with the global economy, Chinese economic downturn could have momentous spillovers to the rest of the world and result in a decline in oil prices. This article investigates whether the Chinese economic slowdown and the oil prices affect the G7 stock market. We use a Quantile-on-Quantile regression approach to capture the correlation structure between the G7 stock returns and oil price returns under different G7 market conditions with considering nuances of oil price movements and Chinese slowdown. Data are employed over the period of January 1999 ~ December 2015. Our results show that the responses of G7 stock returns to China and oil shocks are likely to be asymmetric, nonlinear and country-specific. The stock market returns of Germany, Italy and Canada appear the most vulnerable to these shocks. Our results suggest that international investors consider the states of stock market returns and oil price alongside with the interaction effect between China’s economic slowdown and oil market.

Optimum seismic design of unbonded post-tensioned precast concrete walls using ANN

        Jamal A. Abdalla,Elias I. Saqan,Rami A. Hawileh 사단법인 한국계산역학회 2014 Computers and Concrete, An International Journal Vol.13 No.4

Precast Seismic Structural Systems (PRESSS) provided an iterative procedure for obtaining optimum design of unbonded post-tensioned coupled precast concrete wall systems. Although PRESSS procedure is effective, however, it is lengthy and laborious. The purpose of this research is to employ Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to predict the optimum design parameters for such wall systems while avoiding the demanding iterative process. The developed ANN model is very accurate in predicting the non-dimensional optimum design parameters related to post-tensioning reinforcement area, yield force of shear connectors and ratio of moment resisted by shear connectors to the design moment. The Mean Absolute Percent Error (MAPE) for the test data for these design parameters is around %1 and the correlation coefficient is almost equal to 1.0. The developed ANN model is then used to study the effect of different design parameters on wall behavior. It is observed that the design moment and the concrete strength have the most influence on the wall behavior as compared to other parameters. Several design examples were presented to demonstrate the accuracy and effectiveness of the ANN model.

Isolation and Biocontrol Potential of Bacillus amyloliquefaciens Y1 against Fungal Plant Pathogens

Jamal, Qaiser,Lee, Yong Seong,Jeon, Hyeon Deok,Park, Yun Suk,Kim, Kil Yong Korean Society of Soil Science and Fertilizer 2015 한국토양비료학회지 Vol.48 No.5

This study was performed to investigate thermophilic bacteria from soil having broad antifungal spectrum against Rhizoctonia solani, Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, Phytophthora capsici, Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. lycopersici, and Botrytis cinerea. One isolate selected could resist heat shock of $60^{\circ}C$ for one hour, and had broad antifungal activity in dual culture assay against all tested fungal pathogens and was identified as Bacillus amyloliquefaciens Y1 using 16S rRNA gene sequence. Further investigation for antifungal activity of bacterial culture filtrate (BCF) and butanol crude extract (BCE) of various concentrations showed broad spectrum antifungal activity and fungal growth inhibition significantly increased with increasing concentration with highest growth inhibition of 100% against R. solani with 50% BCF and 11 mm of zone of inhibition against R. solani with 4 mg BCE concentration. Treatment of butanol crude extract resulted in deformation, lysis or degradation of C. gloeosporioides and P. capsici hyphae. Furthermore, B. amyloliquefaciens Y1 produced volatile compounds inhibiting growth of R. solani (70%), C. gloeosporioides (65%) and P. capsici (65-70%) when tested in volatile assay. The results from the study suggest that B. amyloliquefaciens Y1 could be a biocontrol candidate to control fungal diseases in crops.

Evaluating Information Credibility Toward Green Marketing in Indonesia

JAMAL, Fauziyah Nur,OTHMAN, Norfaridatul Akmaliah,SALEH, Raden Chairul,NURHANAY, Almira Husnun,ROHMAH, Wafrotur Korea Distribution Science Association 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.2

This study aims to identify variables, which have relationship to the information credibility toward brand trust. Other than that, this study also proposes a system dynamics approach method, where the time to achieve different credible information can be modeled efficiently and by using variable-oriented simulation methods. Data, which are used for testing, are derived from 400 questionnaires. Data for SEM are collected by using questionnaire and are processed using AMOS software to identify the result whether it is proper to determine the proper variables and the indicators, which will be processed in the simulation using Powersim. The result shows that, from six variables proposed, five are significant variables that support the information credibility. The value of information credibility has fluctuated in 10 years. The important aspect in business activity is a business strategy that incorporates marketing activities. Many companies are adopting green marketing practice to achieve a better business performance, so that information credibility factor is needed. Over the past few years, numerous industries in Indonesia have increased awareness toward green movement. Some companies apply the whole process of creating green products, while others only do so partially, but this is a good approach to green business development in Indonesia nonetheless.

Isoform-Specific Responses of Superoxide Dismutase to Oxidative Stresses and Hormones in Parquat-Tolerant Rehmannia glutinosa

Jamal, Arshad,Yoo, Nam-Hee,Yun, Song-Joong The Korean Society of Crop Science 2007 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.10 No.1

All accessions of Rehmannia glutinosa show the unique characteristic of intrinsic tolerance to paraquat. The higher level of endogenous superoxide dismutase(SOD) activity and its increase upon paraquat treatment indicated the involvement of SOD in the tolerance mechanism to paraquat in R. glutinosa. In this study, we examined the isoform-specific response of SOD to oxidative stresses and hormones. Six SOD isoforms were found in the leaf, and they were identified as two MnSODs(named MnSOD I and MnSOD II, in order of increasing mobility), one FeSOD and three Cu/ZnSODs(named Cu/ZnSOD I, Cu/ZnSOD II, and Cu/ZnSOD III, in order of increasing mobility). MnSOD I, MnSOD II, FeSOD, Cu/ZnSOD I, Cu/ZnSOD II, and Cu/ZnSOD III, contributed to 4, 11, 7, 15, 30, and 32% of the total SOD activity, respectively. Total SOD activity levels in the leaf were increased by 4, 24, and 21% by paraquat, salicylic acid(SA), and yeast extract(YE), respectively, but little by ethephon. Six SOD isoforms responded differentially to these stresses and hormones. The activities of all the isoforms were increased by YE and SA except that of MnSOD I which was decreased by SA. The activities of MnSOD I, FeSOD, and CuZnSOD I were increased by paraquat. These results suggest that amelioration of oxidative stresses by SOD is fine-tuned by the differential expression of isoforms in R. glutinosa.

Syntactic Structured Framework for Resolving Reflexive Anaphora in Urdu Discourse Using Multilingual NLP

( Jamal A. Nasir ),( Zia Ud. Din ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2021 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.15 No.4

In wide-ranging information society, fast and easy access to information in language of one’s choice is indispensable, which may be provided by using various multilingual Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications. Natural language text contains references among different language elements, called anaphoric links. Resolving anaphoric links is a key problem in NLP. Anaphora resolution is an essential part of NLP applications. Anaphoric links need to be properly interpreted for clear understanding of natural languages. For this purpose, a mechanism is desirable for the identification and resolution of these naturally occurring anaphoric links. In this paper, a framework based on Hobbs syntactic approach and a system developed by Lappin & Leass is proposed for resolution of reflexive anaphoric links, present in Urdu text documents. Generally, anaphora resolution process takes three main steps: identification of the anaphor, location of the candidate antecedent(s) and selection of the appropriate antecedent. The proposed framework is based on exploring the syntactic structure of reflexive anaphors to find out various features for constructing heuristic rules to develop an algorithm for resolving these anaphoric references. System takes Urdu text containing reflexive anaphors as input, and outputs Urdu text with resolved reflexive anaphoric links. Despite having scarcity of Urdu resources, our results are encouraging. The proposed framework can be utilized in multilingual NLP (m-NLP) applications.

How Differently Does Oil Price Influence BRICS Stock Markets?

( Jamal Bouoiyour ),( Refk Selmi ) 세종대학교 경제통합연구소 2016 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.31 No.3

This article explores the strength and extent of causal relationship between BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) stock returns and real oil price using frequency domain approach of Breitung and Candelon (2006). This technique offers an appropriate alternative tool by investigating the causality in frequency domain, while standard causality tests focus only on the time domain. Using 1998-2015 quarterly data, we show that the impact of oil price on stock returns is not uniform across the investigated countries. Even though the slowly (quickly) fluctuating components of oil price exert a significant influence on real stock returns in Brazil and Russia (India and South Africa), medium and long term hidden factors were found as potential contributors of Chinese share market. The oil dependence profile, the distribution of market share between companies, the financial system efficiency and the effectiveness of regulation in securities markets have been offered to explain the heterogeneous responses of BRICS equities.
