The mass treatment trial of pyrantel pamoate on Ascaris lumbricoides and Ancylostoma duodenale infections was carried out to school-children and inhabitants in rural areas in the central part of Korea. Pyrantel pamoate ("Combantrin") tablet (123 mg base) was administered as a single dose of 10. 0 mg per kg. body weight to a total of 4,198 Ascaris infected cases selected out of 4,436 (41. 6%) positives, who were screened from the total 10,660 collected stool specimens. Of these, only 3,169. cases were followed up after treatment to provide an analysis in this study. Incidentally 161 cases with concomittently infected hookworm were also subjected to assess the efficacy of pyrantel pamoate against A. duodenale. The egg negative conversion rate on A. lumbricoides was 95.3%, and on A. duodenale, 97.5% four weeks following treatment. In failed cases, the egg reduction rates on both of the infections were 97.6% and 97.3% respectively. No side effects and no problem in drug administration were demonstrated. It is concluded that this study confirms the high efficacy of pyrantel pamoate in the treatment of Ascaris lumbricoides and Ancylostoma duodenale infections and also proves the acceptability and safety of this drug in the mass treatment of ascariasis in a population with relatively high worm burden.

The pathogenic and non-pathogenic microorganism have been isolated from the indoor airborne, the closest environment of human beings. Our purpose were to investigate the distribution of fungi and bacteria in indoor airborne sampled from 7 locations in Namseoul University for 2 months from September to October, 2010. The isolated bacteria were identified by Gram stain and biochemical test using VITEKTM system, also The fungus were identified by LPCB. The experiment on microorganism concentration of indoor air carried out and the average of total microorganism was measured. When airborne bacteria were isolated and identified. The isolation rates of Gram positive cocci, Gram positive bacilli, Gram negative bacilli, and Gram negative cocci were 38.3%, 22.4%, 2.7%, 0%, respectively. In Gram positive cocci, the most strains were identified as Micrococcus spp. In Gram positive bacilli, the most strains were identified as Bacillus spp. The frequently isolated fungi were Aspergillus sp, Penicillium sp, Alternaria sp, Rhizopus sp, Mucor sp. respectively. Backgrounds and Objectives: Vascular dementia is a group of dementing disoders arising from various stroke syndrome. Among these. subcortical ischemic vascular dementia (SIVD) is regarded as a relatively distinct clinical entity. However, MRI patterns of SIVD are not homogenous. In some patients, lacunes are dominant, and in others, subcortical white matter changes are. This study was designed to compare risk factor profiles between SIVD with and without multiple lacunes. Methods: We divided 47 subjects (22 males, mean age. 68 years) recruited from VADAPET (Multicenter Trial For Evaluation Of The Changes In the PET Images Of Subcortical Vascular Dementia Patient) study into two groups one with more than 5 lacunes in deep gray matter (lacune group) and the other with 5 or less(non-lacune group) Clinical characteristics and laboratory findings of two groups were compared. Results: Nineteen of 47 patients (40%) belonged to the lacune group. The lacune and non-lacune groups d d not differ in the following variables: age, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hyperlipidemia heart disease, history of stroke or TIA, history of trauma or major surgery, family history of hypertension stroke, or dementia, age at diagnosis of dementia, body mass index, white blood cell count, ESR, CRP, fibrinogen, hemoglobin A1C, total cholesterol. LDL cholesterol creatinine, proteinuria, glucosuria, and microhematuria. However, male sex, smoking alcohol. hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol were possibly associated more with lacune group SIVD than with non-lacune group (p<0 1) Multivariate analyses revealed that smoking, hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol were independent predictors of SIVD with multiple lacunes Conclusion: Our study suggests that SIVD with multiple lacunes may be significantly different in smoking habits hemoglobin, and HDL cholesterol from SIVD without multiple lacunes.

The objective of this study was to estimate the investment limit in equipment capital by Capital Recovery Method. The data used was collected from 23 Hanwoo(Korean Native Cattle) farms in 1994. The necessary time for herd size expansion was average 5 years from opening(9.7 heads) to 50 heads, 4 years from 50 to 100heads, 3 years from 100 to 150 heads, and 2 years from 150 to 200 heads, respectively. It took 14 years from opening to 200 heads of herd size. The debts for fattening cattle farms were 15.2million won for the size of 50 heads, 37.1 million won for the size of 100 heads and 89.0 million won for the size 200 heads, respectively. Average rates of debt interest were 5.1 % 7.2 and 10.8, correspendingly. As the hear size increased, debt interest rates also increased due to government funds limit. The investment limits in equipment capital perfarm household were 77.7 million won for 50 heads, 135.1 for 100 heads, and 294.3 for 200 heads for 5,500 won per kg liveweight, 70.7 million won for 50 heads, 122.6 for 100 heads and 269.3 for 200 heads for 5,000 won per kg liveweight, 63.6 million won for 50 heads 110.0 for 100 heads and 244.2 for 200 heads for 4,500 won per kg liveweight.
Treatment outcome of hepatic re-irradiation in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

Purpose: We evaluated the efficacy and toxicity of repeated high dose 3-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3D-CRT) for patients with unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma. Materials and Methods: Between 1998 and 2011, 45 patients received hepatic re-irradiation with high dose 3D-CRT in Samsung Medical Center. After excluding two ineligible patients, 43 patients were retrospectively reviewed. RT was delivered with palliative or salvage intent, and equivalent dose of 2 Gy fractions for ${\alpha}/{\beta}=10Gy$ ranged from $31.25Gy_{10}$ to $93.75Gy_{10}$ (median, $44Gy_{10}$). Tumor response and toxicity were evaluated based on the modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors criteria and the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) ver. 4.0. Results: The median follow-up duration was 11.2 months (range, 4.1 to 58.3 months). An objective tumor response rate was 62.8%. The tumor response rates were 81.0% and 45.5% in patients receiving ${\geq}45Gy_{10}$ and $<45Gy_{10}$, respectively (p = 0.016). The median overall survival (OS) of all patients was 11.2 months. The OS was significantly affected by the Child-Pugh class as 14.2 months vs. 6.1 months (Child-Pugh A vs. B, p < 0.001), and modified Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) T stage as 15.6 months vs. 8.3 months (T1-3 vs. T4, p = 0.004), respectively. Grade III toxicities were developed in two patients, both of whom received ${\geq}50Gy_{10}$. Conclusion: Hepatic re-irradiation may be an effective and tolerable treatment for patients who are not eligible for further local treatment modalities, especially in patients with Child-Pugh A and T1-3.

<P>Tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP) is highly expressed in osteoclasts and chondroclasts. The present study investigated changes in TRAP activity after chondrocyte death and cartilage damage, and also evaluated the possible use of TRAP as a diagnostic factor in a model of osteoarthritis. We induced experimental osteoarthritis in beagle dogs and separated chondrocytes from articular cartilage using an enzyme probe. Chondrocyte death was induced by proteasome inhibition and TRAIL treatment, and levels of lactate dehydrogenase, reactive oxygen species (ROS), caspase activation and TRAP activity were measured in the chondrocytes and synovial fluid. Proteasome inhibition and TRAIL treatment significantly enhanced chondrocyte death via caspase-8 activation and ROS generation in the primary cultured canine chondrocytes. TRAP activity was highly increased in damaged chondrocytes, but was decreased by blocking chondrocyte death using caspase inhibition or an ROS scavenger. In the synovial fluid of osteoarthritic dogs, TRAP activity as well as caspase activation and ROS levels were higher than those in the normal joint. Our study demonstrated that TRAP is activated by apoptosis and oxidative stress in primary cultured chondrocytes and osteoarthritic joints and also suggests that TRAP may be used as a diagnostic biomarker for detection of cartilage-related diseases, including osteoarthritis.</P>
Syntheses and characterizations of complex perovskite oxynitrides (Ca, Sr, Ba)TaO2N

The syntheses, crystal structures, thermal decomposition, and optical absorbance spectra of the tantalum-based complex perovskite oxynitrides Ca 1/2 Sr 1/2 TaO 2 N, Sr 1/2 Ba 1/2 TaO 2 N, and Ca 1/3 Sr 1/3 Ba 1/3 TaO 2 N were investigated. Synchrotron X-ray Rietveld refi nement showed that Ca 1/2 Sr 1/2 TaO 2 N, Sr 1/2 Ba 1/2 TaO 2 N, and Ca 1/3 Sr 1/3 Ba 1/3 TaO 2 N were tetragonal, cubic, and orthorhombic, respectively. Additionally, the lattice volume and Ta − O/N bond lengths varied in accordance with the mean ionic radius of the A-site cations. As determined using thermogravimetry and diff erential scanning calorimetry, the above complex perovskite oxynitrides underwent a two-step thermal decomposition consisting of O 2 -uptake at 800–900 K with Δ H = − 2620 to − 2400 kJ/mol and the N 2 release at 1300–1450 K with Δ H = − 45 to −66 kJ/mol. The optical band gaps were estimated from diff use refl ectance spectra as follows: Ca 1/2 Sr 1/2 TaO 2 N (light orange), 2.35 eV; Ca 1/3 Sr 1/3 Ba 1/3 TaO 2 N (light brown), 2.0 eV; Sr 1/2 Ba 1/2 TaO 2 N (red brown), 1.95 eV.
