Earthwork is an essential initial work discipline in construction projects and open to significant impacts of several factors such as weather, site conditions, soil conditions, underground installations and available construction machinery, calling for careful planning by managers. However, selection and combination of construction machinery and equipment for earthwork still depends on experience or intuition of managers in construction sites, with much room left for proper management in terms of cost, schedule and environmental load control. This research aims to analyze the performance of earthwork equipment and establish relations among various factors affecting a model for optimizing selection and combination of earthwork equipment as a precursor to the development of such model. We expect the conclusions herein to contribute to optimizing selection and combination of earthwork equipment and provide basic inputs for the development of applicable model that can save costs, reduce schedule and mitigate environmental load.

Papillary renal cell carcinomas (RCCs) can be classified into 2 subtypes (types 1 and 2), depending on their characteristic cytogenetics, immunostaining profiles, and gene-expression profiles. Compared with type 1 papillary RCCs, type 2 papillary RCCs are relatively rare and show more aggressive features. For those reasons, they are associated with a worse prognosis. A 13-year-old patient was admitted to the hospital with right kidney mass. A laparoscopic radical nephrectomy was performed, and results of the histopathologic examination confirmed it to be type 2 papillary RCC. Type 2 papillary RCCs are rarely found in unilateral and multifocal forms, especially in adolescence. Here, we report the unique case of papillary RCC at a young age.

Conventional apartment building projects have favored wall slab structure for the ease of construction and economic viability. However, wall slab structure, consisting of bearing walls, makes remodeling a difficult challenge. In addition, as the amendment to the Building Act in November, 2005 incentivized easy-to-remodel Rahmen structure design for apartment building in terms of floor area ratio and the number of stories, were are seeing more use of PC construct method in apartment building projects gradually. However, PC construction method requires complex connections between beams and columns, making it difficult to install and remove formwork. Furthermore, it is not possible to reuse forms after removal, generating lots of construction wastes, and it is necessary to install new forms again when the size of connection changes in line with modification of column cross-section. Researchers in Korea and elsewhere in the world have focused on structural performance of connection in PC construction method, with little attention to alternative approaches to improving connection forms for PC construction method. Accordingly, this research aims to study an approach to improving connection forms for PC construction method.

During last many decades, androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) was the main treatment of choice for metastatic castration-naïve prostate cancer (mCNPC). However, there are now more possible treatment options for mCNPC. In CHAARTED, GETUG-AFU 15, and STAMPEDE trial, docetaxel added to ADT improved overall survival compared to ADT alone in mCNPC. Also, STAMPEDE and LATITUDE trial revealed that abiraterone added to ADT improved overall survival compared to ADT alone for mCNPC patient. Furthermore, ARCHES and ENZAMET trial showed that enzalutamide added to ADT also can be a treatment option for mCNPC. Apalutamide added to ADT also improved survival compared to ADT alone in castration resistant prostate cancer patient. The usefulness of radiation therapy to primary tumor in mCNPC has also been studied in HORRAD and STAMPEDE trial. There are many ongoing trials for mCNPC setting. The aim of this paper is to review the current status of mCNPC management options.

As recent construction projects are bigger and higher, the importance of lifting is increasing. In construction sites tower cranes are an essential lifting equipment covering were than 50% of all construction activities. But due to neglect of safety supervision, tower crane-related accidents are frequently taking place. Since most of construction activities is done in heights, the accidents are more likely to be catastrophic. According to an analysis of the causes of tower crane-related accidents, 49% of all accidents claimed for certain periods(1999∼ 2003) occurred in the process of telescoping work. Therefore, this research is conducted with the object of analyzing telescoping work of tower cranes and presenting solutions against safety risk. It is expected that the results of this study can be used as useful basic data or material when preparing for effective safety management for tower cranes.

Recent economic slump has highlighted the needs for the construction industry to develop strategies to improve productivity and overhaul organization structure. Notably, it is urgent to improve productivity of apartment building construction projects that account for about half of the aggregate revenue of building construction projects in Korea. As construction site management manpower staffing plan has close relation with the productivity of building construction, it is essential to staff construction sites adequately in consideration of site conditions and characteristics. However, construction companies of Korea are still far from developing site management manpower staffing plan in reference to quantitative standards. Therefore, this research aims to analyze site management manpower staffing plan of apartment building construction project by means of density analysis. To be more specific, site organization charts and staffing plans of apartment building construction projects put together by large construction companies in Korea are studied and essential resources and their mobilization time of apartment building construction projects are examined. Conclusions herein will provide basic inputs to subsequent studies of apartment building construction site management manpower staffing standards.
