This paper discusses the circuit topologies for simple three-level phase shift ZVS-PWM DC-DC converters in addition to the proposed three-level diode clamped and flying capacitor hybrid phase shift soft switched PWM high frequency link DC-DC converters for industrial gas metal arc welding machines. The arc welding machines for TIG, MIG and MAG require low voltage and large current DC output for high frequency linked DC-DC converters. These three-level type soft switched PWM converter topologies are suitable for some industrial applications mentioned above because of keeping the reduced device voltage capability for wide load ranges and wider soft switching operating ranges as compared to the full bridge converter. This paper is concerned with the comparative three topologies of diode clamping, flying capacitor and diode clamping and flying capacitor hybrid DC-DC converters. In this paper, the circuit operation principles of these three-level soft switched PWM DC-DC converters, soft switching operating ranges and power regulation characteristics are evaluated on the basis of simulations and experiments from a practical point of view.

In this paper, a novel type auxiliary switched capacitor assisted soft switching PWM Single-Ended Push Pull (SEPP) series resonant inverter with two auxiliary resonant lossless inductor snubbers proposed and discussed for consumer high-frequency induction heating (IH) appliances. The new topological high-frequency multi<br/> resonant inverter can regulate its output power under a constant frequency soft switching commutation principle by asymmetrical PWM scheme. The consumer brand-new IH products which use newly proposed soft switching PWM-SEPP series load resonant high-frequency inverter is actually evaluated and discussed as compared with some<br/> conventional high-frequency inverters on the basis of simulation and experimental results. Its practical effectiveness is proved from an application point of view.

At present, the cold cathode fluorescent lamp (CCFL) using mercury lamp has been generally used for liquid crystal backlight source of personal computer and car navigation and so on. This kind of lamp is more excellent on luminance performance and cost. However, the requirements of liquid crystal backlight due to a light source without mercury have been strongly increased from a viewpoint of the actual influence on environmental preservation and environmental recycling. As fluorescent lamp without mercury, Dielectric Barrier Discharge based rare gas fluorescent lamp (DBD-FL) using xenon (Xe) gas has been studied so far. This DBD lamp has no influence on the human body and environmental recycle. Its operating life is long because electrode IS out. In this paper the simulation and experimental results of soft switching high frequency inverter with reverse blocking single switch as a high frequency power supply circuit for DBD-FL using Xe gas are comparatively evaluated and discussed from a practical point of view.

In this paper, a novel prototype of auxiliary switched capacitor assisted voltage source soft switching PWM Single-Ended Push Pull (SEPP) series capacitor compensated load resonant inverter with two auxiliary edge resonant lossless inductor snubbers is proposed and discussed for small scale consumer high-frequency induction heating (IH) appliances. The operation principle of this inverter is described by using switching mode equivalent circuits. The newly developed multi resonant high-frequency inverter using trench gate IGBTs can regulate its output AC power via constant frequency edge-resonant associated soft switching commutation by using an asymmetrical PWM control or duty cycle control scheme. The brand-new consumer IH products which use the newly proposed edge-resonant soft switching PWM-SEPP type series load resonant high-frequency inverters are evaluated using power regulation characteristics, actual efficiency vs. duty cycle and input power vs. actual efficiency characteristics. Their operating performance compared with some conventional soft switching high-frequency inverters for IH appliances is discussed on the basis of simulation and experimental results. The practical effectiveness of the newly proposed soft switching PWM SEPP series load resonant inverter is verified from an application point of view as being suitable for consumer high-frequency IH appliances.

DC Output Wind Generator with Modified Trapezoidal Modulated Converter and Solid-State Transformer

This paper proposes the Modified Trapezoidal Modulation (MTM) as a new modulation technique for a voltage source converter (VSC) for the wind power generator with HVDC transmission. The experimental results show that the MTM is more effective than the conventional sinusoidal modulation (SM) for the reduction of the VSC cost and the switching loss. It is also expected to reduce the torque ripple by optimizing the rectangular ratio in the MTM to reduce the disadvantage of generated harmonic currents. Simulation and experimental results show the good feasibility of using MTM. It is expected to use solid-state transformer (SST) to have galvanic isolation in the proposed system. MPPT simulation with SST shows the good performance of the total unit.

This paper presents the soft switching duty cycle controlled AC-AC direct high frequency cycloconversion circuit for consumer induction heated cooker and steamer, which has unity power factor and sinewave line current shaping functions. The proposed commercial utility frequency AC (LFAC) to high frequency AC (HFAC) cycloconverter can be composed of minimum circuit components for resonance, filter and diodes, which is possible to implement effective miniaturization, low cost, reliability, high efficiency,<br/> downsizing because of the non-electrolytic capacitor at zero<br/> voltage soft switching commutation scheme. In addition, this paper describes the operating principle and its unique features of LFAC-HFAC cycloconverter circuit. Finally its power regulation characteristics in HFAC side in addition to utility AC side sinewave current quality and unity PFC are evaluated and discussed from a simulation point of view. Its practical effectiveness of this direct frequency cycloconverter is proven for consumer induction heated appliances in home and business usages.

The utility interfaced sinewave modulation inverter for the solar photovoltinec power conditioner with a high frequency transformer is presented for residential applications. As compared with the conventional full-bridge hard switching sinewave PWM inverter with a high frequency link, the simplest single-ended edge-resonant soft switching sinewave inverter with a sinewavc duty cycle pulse control scheme is Implemented, resulting in size and weight reduction, low cost and high efficiency This paper presents a prototype system of the sinewave zero voltage soft switching sinewave inverter for solar power conditioner, along with its operating principle and unique features In addition to these, this paper discusses a control implementation to deliver high quality output current. Major design of each component and the power loss analysis under actual power processing is also discussed and evaluated from an experimental point of view A newly developed utility-connected sinewave power conditioning circuit which achieves 92 5% efficiency under 4kW output is demonstrated
Experimental Confirmation of Propulsion and Levitation Control for Linear Induction Motor

Linear motors and Electro Magnetic Suspension (EMS) are used in the maglev system. Linear Induction motors (LIMs) have simple structure, flexible mechanism, and direct drive. HSST (High Speed Surface Transport) system is one of the magnetic levitation systems using LIM. In this system, the traction is controlled by LIM, and the levitation is controlled by EMS respectively. However, this systems have problems, for example the attractive force generated from LIM disturbs the levitation control of the EMS. We have proposed a new magnetic levitation system without EMS. In this system, the attractive force generated from LIM is used as the levitation force. We have also proposed a new control method of the thrust force and attractive force independently and simultaneously. It uses two frequency components. In this paper, we verify the control performance of propulsion and levitation by the experiments.
