Background: The number of elderly patients with end-stage kidney disease has been increasing, but the outcomes of kidney transplants (KT) remain poorly understood in elderly patients. Therefore, we evaluated the clinical outcomes of elderly KT recipients and analyzed the impact of elderly donors. Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients who underwent KT between 2000 and 2019. KT recipients were divided into four groups according to a combination of recipient and donor age (≥60 or <60 years); elderly recipients: old-to-old (n = 46) and young-to-old (n = 83); young recipients: old-to-young (n = 98) and young-to-young (n = 796). We compared the risks of mortality, graft failure, and acute rejection between groups using Cox regression analysis. Results: The incidence of delayed graft function, graft failure, and acute rejection was not different among groups. Annual mean tacrolimus trough level was not lower in elderly recipients than young recipients during 10-year follow-up. Mortality was significantly higher in elderly recipients (p = 0.001), particularly infection-related mortality (p < 0.001). In multivariable Cox regression analysis, old-toold and young-to-old groups had increased risk of mortality (adjusted hazard ratio [aHR], 2.89; 95% confidence interval [CI], 1.14– 7.32; p = 0.03; aHR, 3.06; 95% CI, 1.51–6.20; p = 0.002). However, graft failure and acute rejection risks were not increased in elderly recipients. Conclusion: In elderly recipients, graft survival and acute rejection-free survival were not inferior to those of young recipients. However, mortality, especially risk of infection-related death, was increased in elderly recipients. Thus, low immunosuppression intensity might help decrease mortality in elderly recipients.

Previously, Gum Metal (Ti-24(Nb + Ta + V)-(Zr, Hf)-O (at%)) exhibiting an ultralow Young`s modulus, ultrahigh strength and super elasticity was developed by Saito et al., who proposed that three electronic magic numbers, an average electron/atom (e/a) ratio of 4.24, an average bond order (Bo) of about 2.87, and an average “d” electron-orbital energy level (Md) of about 2.45 eV, should be satisfied simultaneously to obtain such “super” properties. The purpose of this study was to find new alloy systems possessing those properties and to examine the effect of beta equivalent content ([Mo]eq) on Young`s moduli of new alloys having the same three electronic numbers mentioned above. It was found that not only three electronic numbers but also [Mo]eq should be considered to obtain a similar Young`s modulus and hardness with respect to the Gum Metal.
Distribution of the Fairy Pitta (Pitta nympha) in the South Korea: A focus on protected areas

국내 팔색조(Pitta nympha) 분포 현황을 알아보고자 전국 국립공원 등 보호지역 중심으로 총 19개 지역을 조사하였고, 전문가 네트워크를 통해 자료를 보강하였다. 전국 19개 지역을 조사한 결과 북한산, 지리산 등 내륙지역 7개 국립공원에서는 팔색조가 확인되지 않았고, 경남 거제, 남해, 해남, 장흥 고흥 등 남해안과 인접한 12개 지역에서 팔색조 서식이 확인되었다. 또한 전문가 네트워크를 통해 수집한 팔색조 출현 위치 정보 82건을 분석한 결과, 전국 8개 광역지자체 모두 팔색조 서식이 확인되었고, 내륙지역(26.8%)보다 해안지역(73.2%)에서 더 많이 출현하였다. 연구 결과를 종합해보면, 우리나라의 팔색조는 주로 제주도와 남해안 지역을 중심으로 많이 분포하며, 그 보다 적은 개체수가 내륙 지역에 넓게 분포하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. The present study investigated the current distribution of Fairy Pitta (Pitta nympha) in South Korea. A total of 19 study areas, including protected areas such as national and provincial parks in South Korea were surveyed, and additional data obtained from an expert network. According to the results, Fairy Pitta was absent in seven inland national parks, including Mt. Bukhan and Chiri parks. Fairy Pitta inhabited 12 areas near the southern coast of South Korea, including Geoje, Namhae, Haenam, Jangheung, Goheung, and Gyeongnam Province. The analysis results of 82 datasets obtained from experts with regard to the locations where Fairy Pitta have been spotted showed that the bird inhabits all the eight metropolitan regions in South Korea, and is more frequently spotted in coastal areas (73.2%) than in inland areas (26.8%). The findings demonstrate that Fairy Pitta is mainly distributed in Jeju Island and the southern coast of South Korea, and is distributed in inland areas at relatively lower numbers.
골절의 치유과정에서 전혈중의 Ca - Mg, Zn - Cu의 농도 변화에 관한 연구

In order to investigate the hypothetic defense mechanism of essential metals which take part in the healing process of bone fracture, the author measured the changes of whole blood concentration of Ca, Mg, Zn and Cu from 88 fractured patients as experimental group, and 49 healthy, male medical students as control group, using Inductively Coupled Plasma Emission Spectrometer. The obtained results were as follows. 1. The mean concentrations of Ca at the time of fracture, at 1 month after fracture and at 3 months after fracture were 52.55± 17.37 g/ml, 60.45± 14.37 g/ml and 65.33± 16.73 g/ml, respectively and increased significantly through the healing process of bone fracture(p<0.05). The Ca concentration of fracture group at 3 months was higher than that of control. 2. The mean concentrations of Mg at the time of fracture, at 1 month and at 3 months were 26.50± 6.76 g/ml, 28.46± 6.11 g/me, 29.51± 4.32 g/ml, respectively and increased significantly through the healing process(p<0.05). The concentrations of Mg in fracture group were lower than that of control(p<0.05). 3. The mean concentrations of Zn at the time of fracture, at 1 month and at 3 months were 6.73± 1.68 g/ml, 6.48± 1.25 g/ml, 6.91± 1.58 g/ml, respectively and the changing tendencies were not statistically significant through the healing process (p>0.05). The concentrations of Zn in fracture group were lower than that of control. 4. The mean concentrations of Cu at the time of fracture, at 1 month and at 3 months were 1.04± 0.38 g/ml, 1.11± 0.46 g/ml, 1.13± 0.42 g/ml, respectively and increased through the healing process, but the changes were not statistically significant (p>0.05). The concentrations of Cu in fracture group were higher than that of control(p<0.05). 5. There were positive correlations between Ca and Mg, Zn and Cu concentrations (p<0.01) in both fracture and control groups, but no constant correlations were found in the other metals. 6. The ratio of Mg/Ca was tend to decrease through the healing process of bone fracture, but the ratio of Zn/Cu was showed no constant change in fracture group and that was higher in control(p<0.05) 7. As above results, the changes of 4 essential metal( Ca, Mg, Zn, Cu) concentrations in whole blood have meaningful role in the healing process of bone fracture.

이 연구의 목적은 제대군인에 대한 효율적인 전직지원을 위해서 현행 전직지원 프로세스에 대한 개선 안과 이에 따른 국방부, 국가보훈처 등 제대군인 전직지원관련 기관 간의 역할분담 및 연계방안에 대해서 제안하는 것이다. 연구는 크게 세 가지 과정을 거쳤다. 첫째, 국내 군 전직지원 실태를 분석하여 문제점과 시사점을 도출하였다. 둘째, 이러한 문제점과 시사점, 군 전직지원 선행연구를 종합하여 효율적인 군 전직지원 프로세스 안을 제시하였다. 셋째, 구축한 군 전직지원 프로세스 안에 따라 주요 군 전직지원 관련 기관인 국방부, 국가보훈처의 역할 분담 안을 제안하였다. This study aims to suggest an improvement plan for the support process of effective occupation change for discharged soldiers and then role assignments among related institutions for supporting discharged soldiers such as Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Ministry of Labor and the cooperation plan among the institutions. The study was made in three steps. First, after analyzing currents support facts and status for discharged soldiers, it induced its problems and implications. Second, integrating the findings of previous studies related to support plan on occupation changes for the discharged soldiers, Problems and implications mentioned above, it constructed effective occupation change process for discharged soldiers. Then, according to the established process, it suggested role assignments such as Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Ministry of Labor.
토끼의 협골궁을 이용한 유경골이식과 유리골이식의 비교연구

The membranous bone is new used frequently to fill the defect made during the craniofacial osteotmy. The membranous bone is resolved less than the endochondral bone after the free graft, and maintains its greater preportion when it is transfered with its vascular pedicle. It is also known that there is less resorption in the orthotopic graft than in the heterotopic graft. We have stuided the amount of resorption of the orthotopically grafted bone in the vascularized and nonvascularized model. A zygomatic arch of the rabbit was resected completely and was fixed orthotopically using a wire. The contralateral one was resected and fixed with its muscle attachment(masseter). After 8 weeks the animals were sacrificed. The volume of the grafted bone was compared. There 10±2% volume loss in the vascularized modol and 18±4% volume loss in the free graft model with a statistically significant difference(P<0.001). Histologically, in the vascularized graft, primary bony union was observed and the original architecture was preserved well and the periosteal activity way great. The free graft was also healed by bony union except in 1 case. But the architectural irregularity was more prominent in the free graft than in the vascularized graft.
