The surface of silicon dioxide (SiO2) nanoparticles was treated with oleic acid, and the resulting surface properties were characterized. Bio-based poly(lactic acid) (PLA)/poly(butylene succinate)/SiO2 nanocomposites were fabricated via solution blending. The influence of the SiO2 content on the thermal stability, flexural properties, impact strength, and morphology of the prepared nanocomposites was investigated using several techniques. The impact strength of the nanocomposites with surface treated SiO2 (O-SiO2) nanoparticles substantially increased with increasing O-SiO2 content from 0 to 3wt%. Scanning electron microscopy imaging revealed that the nanocomposites with OSiO2 nanoparticles exhibited numerous tortuous cracks and ridges, indicating ductile deformation prior to fracturing.
Multicentre Hospital-based Case-control Study of Diffuse Large B-cell Lymphoma in Shanghai, China

Background: Several potential risk factors have been identified for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL); however, epidemiological studies investigating the association between these risk factors and DLBCL have yielded inconsistent results. Objectives: To investigate potential medical, lifestyle, and environmental risk factors of DLBCL in Shanghai, China through a hospital-based case-control study. Method: One-hundred-and-forty-seven newly diagnosed DLBCL patients and 294 sex- and age-matched controls were recruited from 11 hospitals in Shanghai between 2003 and 2007. A standardized structured questionnaire was used to obtain patient data on demographics, medical history, family history, lifestyle, and environmental exposures. Conditional logistic regression models were used to estimate odds ratios (ORs), with 95% confidence intervals (CIs), for risk associated with each data category. Results: History of tuberculosis (TB) infection and "living on a farm" were positively associated with DLBCL (TB: OR=3.05, 95% CI: 1.19-7.80; farm: OR=1.82, 95% CI: 1.21-2.73). In contrast, taking traditional Chinese medicine was negatively associated with DLBCL (OR=0.36, 95% CI: 0.14-0.89). No significant correlation with DLBCL risk was found for any of the other potential risk factors (p>0.05), including but not limited to hair dyes, alcohol drinking, smoking, and home/workplace renovation within one year. Conclusions: Consistent with results from previous studies in other DLBCL case populations, traditional Chinese medicine appeared to have a direct or indirect protective effect against DLBCL. However, this study also identified a possible predisposition for DLBCL in TB sufferers and farmers.
중국 해운물류기업의 환경정책에 대한 전략적 순응과 지속가능 경영성과에 관한 연구

최근 해운물류산업 분야에서도 지속 가능한 발전이 중요한 주제로 논의되고 있다. ‘지속가능 발전’이라는 사회적 요구의 충족을 위해서는 관련 정책 및 법률에 대한 체계적인 적용도 중요하지만, 이에 대한 기업의 적극적인 참여도 필요하다. 기업에는 환경정책 관련 회피적 태도 혹은 외부적 압력에 대한 수동적인 자세보다는 해당 주제에 대한 이해와 적극적인 순응이 요구된다. 본 연구는 중국 해운물류기업을 대상으로 지속 가능한 발전의 중요성과 결정요인에 대한 분석을 시행하였으며, 대표적인 제도요인인 환경정책에 대한 전략적 순응의 직·간접 효과도 확인하였다. 기업, 화물, 항만특성 연계 결정요인을 도출하고, 구조방정식을 활용하여 이를 실증적으로 검증하였다. 실증분석 결과 기업의 네트워크와 화물의 매뉴얼이 의미 있는 역할을 하는 것으로 확인되었다. 또한, 항만의 운영 전문성이 중요한 결정요인이며, 환경정책에 대한 전략적 순응도 지속가능 경영성과에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. Recently, ‘sustainable development’ has been discussed as an important topic in the maritime industry. Sustainable development can be achieved by not only government activities (i.e., policies and laws) but also active participation of private companies. Companies are required to understand and actively conform to external institutions such as environmental policy rather than passive attitude toward them. As a result, innovation, competitiveness and sustainable development can be achieved. This study investigates determinants of sustainable managerial performance for Chinese shipping and logistics companies. Moderating effects of conformity to environment policy is also discussed. Based on theoretical foundations and literature reviews, we hypothesize several relationships between firm, product and seaport-related determinants and sustainable managerial performance. And, the relationships are empirically tested by SEM(Structural Equation Modeling). Empirical findings show that company network and cargo manual can play an important role to enhance performance. It is confirmed that operational expertise is another important determinant. In addition, strategic conformity to environmental policy has a positive effect on sustainable managerial performance.
Effect of the Annealing Process on CuInS2 Thin Films Prepared by Using Aerosol Jet Deposition

CuInS<sub>2</sub> thin films were prepared by aerosol jet deposition (AJD) method on soda lime glasses. The effect of [Cu]/[In] ratio and annealing process on the properties of CuInS<sub>2</sub> thin films were studied. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis showed that the well crystallized films were deposited at [Cu]/[In] ratio of 1.2 and [S]/[In] ratio of 3. In order to improve the quality of the films, various post-deposition annealing processes including furnace annealing in Ar, one-step sulfurization and two-step sulfurization were explored. XRD and field emission scanning electron microscopy revealed that the highly crystallized grains in the films were obtained from two-step sulfurization. Energy dispersive X-ray analysis confirmed that two-step sulfurization in H<sub>2</sub>S ambient eliminated the deficiency of sulfur and removed the impurities such as oxygen and chlorine. The depth profiles of Cu, In and S for CuInS<sub>2</sub> films confirmed the effectiveness of two-step sulfurization for high quality CuInS<sub>2</sub> films. Finally, the deposition of CuInS<sub>2</sub> films by AJD method could be achieved by the introduction of two-step sulfurization.
