MuRF1 (TRIM63) has been long known as a critical regulator in skeletal muscle atrophy. Over two decades of research has made evident that MuRF1’s expression is critical to the development of muscle atrophy. However, the development of atrophy inhibiting pharmaceuticals targeting MuRF1 has been hindered as MuRF1’s ubiquitin E3 ligase activity remains uncharacterised. The mechanism regulating MuRF1 activity, substrate recognition, and downstream effectors are unclear. This review aims to highlight the current research of molecular mechanisms by providing insights regarding MuRF1’s cooperating UBE2s, the topology of MuRF1 ubiquitylation, and the fates of MuRF1 substrates.
Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy: A Multifaceted Tool

Stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT) has been used to effectively treat early stage hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or for bridging therapies for patients with HCC who are on the waiting list to receive a liver transplantation. Excellent local control rates have been reported following SBRT (~90% at 1 -2 years). Comparative studies have suggested that local control rates are similar between radiofrequency ablation (RFA) and SBRT, and toxicity rates appear to be reduced in patients treated with SBRT. SBRT is a good option for early stage tumors unsuitable for RFA or TACE and for large tumors less likely to respond to RFA or TACE. SBRT is also a good option for HCC patients awaiting liver transplantation in need of bridging therapy. No objective increased operative toxicity post modest dose SBRT as bridging therapy was seen in our recent series. Outcomes appear similar to those in patients treated with standard bridging therapies, and complete responses have been seen in observed post SBRT. SBRT has also been used to treat HCC with vascular invasion and HCC refractory to TACE, although long term survival and progression free survival rates are reduced. In these patients, although local control remains high at one year, the most common pattern of recurrence is in the liver, away from the irradiated lesion, suggesting that combined modality therapy may improve outcomes. Concurrent use of sorafenib and radiation therapy is associated with an increased risk of toxicity. Sequential use of SBRT and sorafenib is being investigated in an international randomized trial of patients with locally advanced HCC unsuitable for TACE (RTOG1112, PI L. Dawson). There is a smaller experience in SBRT for HCC patients with impaired liver function (Child Pugh B/C); patients with Child Pugh B7 have better outcomes than those with worse liver function. In one study, the median survival was ~ 8 months versus 3 months for patients with advanced HCC who had Child Pugh B7 versus B8 and higher liver function. Thus, patients with Child Pugh B8 or worse liver function are not recommended to have SBRT routinely; such patients are encouraged to participate in studies of strategies to reduce toxicity or recommend for palliative low dose radiation therapy only (if needed) and best supportive care.
THE SDSS-IV EXTENDED BARYON OSCILLATION SPECTROSCOPIC SURVEY: OVERVIEW AND EARLY DATA

<P>In a six-year program started in 2014 July, the Extended Baryon Oscillation Spectroscopic Survey (eBOSS) will conduct novel cosmological observations using the BOSS spectrograph at Apache Point Observatory. These observations will be conducted simultaneously with the Time Domain Spectroscopic Survey (TDSS) designed for variability studies and the Spectroscopic Identification of eROSITA Sources (SPIDERS) program designed for studies of X-ray sources. In particular, eBOSS will measure with percent-level precision the distance-redshift relation with baryon acoustic oscillations (BAO) in the clustering of matter. eBOSS will use four different tracers of the underlying matter density field to vastly expand the volume covered by BOSS and map the large-scale-structures over the relatively unconstrained redshift range 0.6 < z < 2.2. Using more than 250,000 new, spectroscopically confirmed luminous red galaxies at a median redshift z = 0.72, we project that eBOSS will yield measurements of the angular diameter distance d(A)(z) to an accuracy of 1.2% and measurements of H(z) to 2.1% when combined with the z > 0.6 sample of BOSS galaxies. With similar to 195,000 new emission line galaxy redshifts, we expect BAO measurements of d(A)(z) to an accuracy of 3.1% and H(z) to 4.7% at an effective redshift of z = 0.87. A sample of more than 500,000 spectroscopically confirmed quasars will provide the first BAO distance measurements over the redshift range 0.9 < z < 2.2, with expected precision of 2.8% and 4.2% on d(A)(z) and H(z), respectively. Finally, with 60,000 new quasars and re-observation of 60,000 BOSS quasars, we will obtain new Lya forest measurements at redshifts z > 2.1; these new data will enhance the precision of d(A)(z) and H(z) at z > 2.1 by a factor of 1.44 relative to BOSS. Furthermore, eBOSS will provide improved tests of General Relativity on cosmological scales through redshift-space distortion measurements, improved tests for non-Gaussianity in the primordial density field, and new constraints on the summed mass of all neutrino species. Here, we provide an overview of the cosmological goals, spectroscopic target sample, demonstration of spectral quality from early data, and projected cosmological constraints from eBOSS.</P>

Background and Objectives: The study attempted to trace age-related changes in speech perception in typically developing children (≥3 to ≤6 years) using the “Early Speech Perception (ESP)” in Tamil. The test was developed in line with the original English version of ESP but adapted to suit the linguistic requirement of the Tamil language.Subjects and Methods: Using a cross-sectional design, the test was administered to 205 children with normal hearing who were classified into three age groups (≥3 to ≤4, >4 to ≤5, and >5 to ≤6 years). The developed test had three subtests (syllable categorization, bisyllable word identification, and trisyllable word identification).Results: All three age groups obtained perfect or near-perfect scores on the three subtests of ESP. There was no significant difference observed between the two adjacent age groups (≥3 to ≤4 vs. >4 to ≤5 years, >4 to ≤5 vs. >5 to ≤6 years) for all three subtests. However, significant differences were seen only between the youngest and the oldest age groups for the three subtests (≥3 to ≤4 vs. >5 to ≤6 years).Conclusions: The results indicated that ESP in Tamil can be performed effectively in all the three age groups studied.

<P>The impact of increasing the number of predicted moments in a multimoment bulk microphysics scheme is investigated using ensemble Kalman filter analyses and forecasts of the May 8, 2003 Oklahoma City tornadic supercell storm and the analyses are validated using dual-polarization radar observations. The triple-moment version of the microphysics scheme exhibits the best performance, relative to the single- and double-moment versions, in reproducing the low-<SUB>ZDR</SUB>hail core and high-<SUB>ZDR</SUB>arc, as well as an improved probabilistic track forecast of the mesocyclone. A comparison of the impact of the improved microphysical scheme on probabilistic forecasts of the mesocyclone track with the observed tornado track is also discussed.</P>

This paper examines private tutoring systems in three East Asian countries (Japan, South Korea, and Cambodia) with the purpose of examining the relationship between those systems and formal education systems. The study of private tutoring systems in each nation can be used to reveal the inadequacies of the formal education system in meeting the ideal of equal opportunity of education in relation to high-stakes examinations. In each nation, the private tutoring system functions as a "shadow education market" to absorb unmet demand for additional education in a parasitic relationship with the formal system. Governments have enacted various policies to respond to the growing private tutoring systems which have proven largely ineffective and often led to further expansion. Pedagogical and curricular practices in the private tutoring systems have functioned to increase "anxiety" and "insecurity" in regard to the formal education system with the purpose of expanding the market. Studies of mass schooling systems and equal opportunity are incomplete without due consideration toward the role of the private tutoring system. Efforts toward education policy-making and reform to further the ideal of equal opportunity of education must be informed by such research on private tutoring.
