Update knowledge on cervical cancer incidence and prevalence in Asia

Cervical cancer is the second most common cause of cancer-related death among women worldwide, with over 500,000 new cases diagnosed annually and 50% mortality rate in Asia. In the United States, approximately 10,370 new cases of cervical cancer are diagnosed annually, and estimated 3,710 deaths occur from the disease, making it the sixth most common cause of malignancy among American women. This study aims to provide awareness about cervical cancer as well as an updated knowledge about the prevalence and incidence of cervical cancer in Asia.

Over the last two decades the number of applications to medical schools in North American has significantly increased. This can be seen through statistical data produced each year by the American association of medical college application services. To meet this surge and to also address the shortage of physicians in North America a number of new medical schools have commenced in the Carrbbean Islands. One significant challenge faced by these schools in the lack of academic preparation amongst applications. To meet this challenge a novel online preparatory program was designed and implemented. This program is delivered through live-online learning technology to prepare students for a rigorous medical school curriculum at the American University of Antigua College of Medicine. Using an innovative online learning program prepares students for an authentics medical education while articulating the student development theory of self-authorship. The pages that follow showcase the student success by measuring the students`` development and specifically the theory of self-authorship through qualitative research methods. Specifically these page will discuss the program and the development of students into selfauthored medical students.

Gastric cancer is the 2nd most common cause of death among all cancers and is the 4th most common cancer in the world. The number of deaths due to gastric cancer is about 800,000 annually. Gastric cancer is more common in men as compared to women and is 3rd most common cancer after colorectal and breast cancers in women. A progressive rise in the incidence rate has been observed in females over the last 5 years. The highest incidence of stomach cancer is in China, South America and Eastern Europe. The incidence of gastric cancer has 20 fold variation worldwide. Global variation is linked by two factors which play important role in developing gastric cancer. One is infection with Helicobacter pylori and the $2^{nd}$ is diet. South Asia is a region with low risk, despite a high prevalence of H.pylori. Gastric carcinoma is common in southern region of India. Gastric cancer is more readily treated if diagnosed early. This study aims to provide awareness about gastric cancer as well as an updated knowledge about risk factors and epidemiology of gastric cancer in Pakistan.

Prostate cancer is more common in men over the age of 65 years. There are 15% cases with positive family history of prostate cancer Worldwide. Prostate cancer is the second leading cause of death among the U.S. men. Prostate cancer incidence is strongly related to age with the highest rates in older man. Globally millions of people are suffering from this disease. This study aims to provide awareness about prostate cancer as well as an updated knowledge about the epidemiology, etiology, diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer.
Design and Development of Digital Ramptime Current Control Technique

A new all-digital current control technique is presented in this paper. The current control is based on Ramptime current control technique, where multisampling is chosen as the sampling strategy due to its ability to provide higher accuracy. The resultant current control is called Digital Ramptime current control. The performance of the new current control is compared with the original Ramptime in an active power filter experiment. Results show that with sufficient sampling, the performance of Digital Ramptime is satisfactory.

<P><B>Highlights</B></P><P>► Microbial-vessel inhibited substantially membrane biofouling in MBR. ► Quorum quenching was more pronounced with microbial-vessel in membrane tank. ► Quorum quenching was largely dependent on mixed liquor recirculation rate. ► The microbial-vessel maintained its activity over 100days of the MBR operation.</P> <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>A number of recent studies have demonstrated that quorum sensing (QS) using signal molecules, <I>N</I>-acyl homoserine lactone (AHL), plays a role in the formation of biofilm on the surface of membranes in a membrane bioreactor (MBR). In this study, the membrane biofouling in an external submerged MBR was inhibited by interrupting AHL-mediated QS with quorum quenching bacteria encapsulated inside the porous vessel (microbial-vessel). The quorum quenching effect of the microbial-vessel was more pronounced when the microbial-vessel was positioned nearer to the filtration membrane in MBR, i.e., in the membrane tank rather than in the bioreactor. Its quorum quenching effect was also largely dependent on the recirculation rate of the mixed liquor between the bioreactor and the membrane tank. The microbial-vessel maintained its quorum quenching activity steadily over 100days of the MBR operation due to continuous regeneration of living quorum quenching bacteria inside the microbial-vessel. This strategy effectively interrupted cell-to-cell communications (quorum sensing), and thereby exhibited energy saving potential by reducing the aeration rate in MBR.</P>
