        Synthesis and Characterization of a Fluid-Like Novel Aniline Pentamer

        A fluid-like novel aniline pentamer was synthesized by oxidative coupling and chemically doped with nonylphenol polyoxyethylene ether sulfate (NPES). The chemical structure, morphology, rheological behavior and conductivity of the assynthesized aniline pentamer were investigated. Unlike conventional aniline oligomers, this aniline pentamer exhibited a fluid-like behavior in the absence of any solvent at room temperature. Moreover, the aniline pentamer fluid showed liquid crystal characteristics. Combination of the fluid-like behavior, liquid crystal characteristics and good conductivity makes the aniline pentamer a promising environmentally friendly fluid for various applications such as field-effect transistors, liquid crystal devices, electrorheological materials, corrosion protection and other devices requiring electroactivity. This work provides a facile way to synthesizing flowable aniline oligomers with liquid crystal characteristics.

        ONE-STEP SYNTHESIS OF BIOCOMPATIBLE CHITOSAN/NaGdF 4 :Eu 3 þ NANOCOMPOSITE WITH FLUORESCENT AND MAGNETIC PROPERTIES FOR BIOIMAGING

        Lanthanide-doped luminescent nanoscale materials have great potential applications in biologicalresearches. Herein, we reported a novel and mild method for one-step synthesis of chitosan/NaGdF 4 :Eu 3 þnanocomposites. The luminescent Eu 3 þions and magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) contrast agent Gd 3 þions were incorporated to these biocompatible nanocomposites. Theresultant nanocomposites exhibited strong °uorescence and attractive magnetic features. Thenanocomposites also have pure hexagonal phase with uniform size of about 65 nm. FT-IR spectrarevealed that these nanocomposites were successfully coated by hydrophilic chitosan, whoseamine groups conferred the nanocomposites excellent dispensability in aqueous solution. Besides,the MTT assay and laser confocal microscopy images have con¯rmed the good biocompatibilityof the nanocomposites. These results indicated that the as-prepared nanocomposites could beused as an excellent targeted imaging agent in biological felds.

        THE HARDY TYPE INEQUALITY ON METRIC MEASURE SPACES

        In this paper, we prove that if a metric measure space satisfies the volume doubling condition and the Hardy type inequality with the same exponent n ($n{\geq}3$), then it has exactly the n-dimensional volume growth. Besides, three interesting applications of this fact have also been given. The first one is that we prove that complete noncompact smooth metric measure space with non-negative weighted Ricci curvature on which the Hardy type inequality holds with the best constant are isometric to the Euclidean space with the same dimension. The second one is that we show that if a complete n-dimensional Finsler manifold of nonnegative n-Ricci curvature satisfies the Hardy type inequality with the best constant, then its flag curvature is identically zero. The last one is an interesting rigidity result, that is, we prove that if a complete n-dimensional Berwald space of non-negative n-Ricci curvature satisfies the Hardy type inequality with the best constant, then it is isometric to the Minkowski space of dimension n.

        One-Step Fabrication of Fluorescent Carbon Dots for Selective and Sensitive Detection of Cr (VI) in Living Cells

        A one-step facile method of synthesizing fluorescent carbon dots (CDs) has been demonstrated, whereby fluorescent CDs are produced through hydrothermal treatment of glucose in the presence of H3BO3 with a fluorescence quantum yield of 14.5%. It is found that spherical CDs have an average size of 3.7 nm as well as good monodispersion in aqueous solution. The added Cr (VI) selectively leads to the inner filter effect (IFE)-based fluorescence quenching of the CDs. Such fluorescence responses can be used for well quantifying Cr (VI) in the range of 0.05–200 µM. Significantly, the CDs possess negligible cytotoxicity, excellent biocompatibility and high selectivity. All these features are favorable for label-free monitoring of Cr (VI) in complex biological samples. It was then successfully applied for the fluorescence imaging of intracellular Cr (VI). As an efficient chemosensor, the CDs hold great promise in broadening their applications in biological systems.

        The fuzzy comprehensive evaluation (FCE) and the principal component analysis (PCA) model simulation and its applications in water quality assessment of Nansi Lake Basin, China

        The Fuzzy Comprehensive Evaluation (FCE) and the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) were simulated to assess water quality of the Nansi Lake Basin, China. The membership functions were established via the Nor-Half Sinusoidal Distribution Method, and the weight was calculated via the Exceeding Standard Multiple Method. To enhance the efficiency of extracting principal pollutant, the eigenequation was solved through the Jacobi Method, and the principal components were extracted based on eigenvalue, contribution ratio, accumulating contribution ratio, principal component loading and score. Water quality classification based on “National Surface Water Environmental Quality Standards of China (GB3838-2002) was used to assess the water quality. Considering the difference of the temporal and spatial distribution in average, water quality of Level I was 28.9%, 28.1%, 25.1%, 25.6%, respectively in spring, summer, autumn, and winter, which suggested that water quality in spring and summer was better than in autumn and winter. The order of water quality was Zhaoyang Lake (Level I) > Nanyang Lake (Level I) > Dushan Lake (Level III) > Weishan Lake (Level III and IV). There were four extracted principal components that can replace the fourteen pollutant indexes for assessing water quality. According to the annual mean data of the 1<SUP>st</SUP> principal components, the most important pollutions were heavy metals, including As (0.933), Hg (0.931), Cd (0.929), Cr(VI) (0.926), Pb (0.925), and Cu (0.534). It is proved that the combined FCE-PCA model could provide valuable information in the water quality assessment for the Nansi Lake Basin.

        ONE-STEP COLLOID CHEMICAL ROUTE TO PREPARE HETEROSTRUCTURE EuSe/Ag NANOPARTICLES FOR LUMINESCENCE RESONANCE ENERGY TRANSFER SENSORS

        The heterostructure EuSe/Ag nanoparticles (NPs) were prepared through one-step colloidchemical method. Blue °uorescent EuSe NPs were prepared by amine reducing method witholeylamine (OLA) as surface stabilizer. The colloid microemulsion was formed through themixture of AgNO 3 aqueous solution and the EuSe n-Hexane solution. On the interface, Agþionscould be reduced to Ag NPs by OLA. Finally heterogeneous EuSe/Ag NPs were obtained. Thestructure and properties of EuSe NPs and EuSe/Ag NPs were characterized by photo-luminescence (PL), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray photoelectron spec-troscopy (XPS). The results showed that the luminescence resonance energy transfer (LRET)occurred on the interface of EuSe NPs and Ag NPs. Also it demonstrated that the linear enhancedLRET e®ect happened with increasing the concentration of Agþ. All these properties make ourheterostructural EuSe/Ag NPs to have interesting potential applications for ions detection andbiosensors.
