A study on manufacturing CFRP rebar with a high tensile strength

In this study, high-strength CFRP using carbon fiber as the main rebar and glass fi ber for the rib was developed. For pro- duction of CFRP, physical properties of various types of fibers were examined through optical microscopy, XRD analysis, and a tensile strength test. In addition, to verify the behavior according to the carbon fi ber and the type of resin, a carbon composite was fabricated with varied fi ber content and curing temperature. The physical properties of the fabricated carbon composite were measured using tensile strength and fracture shape tests. A high-strength CFRP rebar was manufactured using the pultrusion method and its mechanical properties, specifi cally tensile strength and elastic modulus, were measured. The CFRP rebar developed in this study showed relatively higher tensile strength and elastic modulus than the existing CFRP rebars, and it appeared that the developed CFRP rebar had a relatively smaller amount of pores than existing CFRP rebars.The CFRP rebar developed in this study showed relatively higher tensile strength and elastic modulus than the existing CFRP rebars, and it appeared that the developed CFRP rebar had a relatively smaller amount of pores than existing CFRP rebars.
