Effective Work Function of Screen Printable Graphene-Decorated Conductive Nanocomposites

Printable electrodes will play an important role in future fl exible electronics in photovoltaic, displays, and sensor devices. Novel materials such as nanocomposites can be attractive as electrode materials in such devices. Work function is an important parameter in the design of device structures for optimal performance. However, defi nition of work function of nanocomposite materials is complicated due to their non-homogeneity compared to single phase materials. In this study, an effective work function of a novel screen-printable graphene-decorated nanocomposite is presented. Two methods were used to determine the eff ective work function. The fi rst method relies on the tunneling current in a conductor–insulator–conductor structure with the nanocomposite functioning as one of the conductors, while the second method measures the work function of the nanocomposite at the interface with vacuum using ultraviolet photoemission spectroscopy. Values measured using the two methods are in a fairly good agreement. The diff erence is believed to be due to the heterogeneous nature of this nanocomposite which invites for the defi nition of an eff ective value for the work function, which will be a key parameter in the design of practical devices with nanocomposite electrodes.
Analysis, Design and Implementation of a New Chokeless Interleaved ZVS Forward Flyback Converter

This paper presents an interleaved active-clamping zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) forward-flyback converter without an output choke. The presented topology has two active-clamping circuits with two separated transformers. Because of the interleaved operation of the converter, the output current ripple will be reduced. The proposed converter can approximately share the total load current between the two secondaries. Therefore, the transformer copper loss and the rectifier diodes conduction loss can be decreased. The output capacitor is made of two series capacitors which reduces the peak reverse voltage of the rectifier diodes. The circuit has no output inductor and few semiconductor elements, such that the adopted circuit has a simpler structure, a lower cost and is suitable for high power density applications. A detailed analysis and the design of this new converter are described. A prototype converter has been implemented and experimental results have been recorded with an ac input voltage of 85-135Vrms, an output voltage of 12V and an output current of 16A.

Background & Objectives: The most northern and northwestern regions of Iran are at a high risk for gastric cancer. The aim of this study was to assess the general population's awareness about risk factors, symptoms and signs, preventive methods and management of gastric carcinoma in a high prevalence city in the North of Iran. Methods: A cross-sectional population-based telephone survey which was conducted on 3,457 residents of Rasht, the capital city of Guilan Province, to assess their awareness regarding gastric carcinoma. The questionnaires contained demographic data and statements on respondents' knowledge about risk factors, symptoms and signs, prevention and management of gastric cancer which were filled by general practitioners after asking the subjects. Data were analyzed in SPSS14. P<0.05 was considered significant. Results: The mean knowledge score of the respondents was $5.05{\pm}1.37$ regarding risk factors of gastric carcinoma, $4.39{\pm}1.99$ regarding symptoms and signs, $6.0{\pm}1.22$ regarding preventive strategies, and $1.6{\pm}1.16$ regarding management. Totally the mean knowledge level of the respondents toward gastric carcinoma would be $17.1{\pm}3.97$ from the maximum grade of 29. The age group of 45-55 y/o, bachelor degree and higher, physicians and nurses, those who had cancer history in friends or had the history of gastrointestinal diseases showed significantly higher knowledge scores (P=0.001). Conclusion: There is a general lack of awareness of cancer risk factors, symptoms and signs, methods of prevention, and importance of early diagnosis and treatment. Educational programs should be developed to promote adherence to recommended screening guidelines.
