The development of recombinant DNA technology bring about a revolution in biology. In medicine molecular biology is widely appolicated to diagnosis, treatment and understanding of disease. For diagnosis of infectious disease, cancer and genetic disorder, recombinant DNA technology provides rapid, specific, sensitive new method ; Southern blot, Northern blot, in situ hybridization and PCR(Polymerase Chain Reaction), etc. PCR is being used for rapid and sensitive diagnostic method of infectious disease, for example for diagnosis fo Mycobacterium tuberculosis classic culture method needs 4~7 weeks but PCR only 1~2 days. Over the nest few years by combing automated method for DNA extraction, PCR, and non-radioactive labelling, it may be possible to automate most of steps in molecular diagnosis of disease.
頭部에서 Pityrosporum orbiculare 및 Pityrosporum ovale의 硏究

The authors performed mycologic studies on Pityrosporum by direct smear culture. 1. The subjects with dandruff were 63.3% and subjects without dandruff were 36.7%. 2. The spores of Pityrosporum were observed in all subjects under the KOH microscopic examination. 3. The subjects in the group of more than 90% of P.orbiculare were 42, group of 90-60% of P.orbiculare were 2, group of more than 90% of P.oval were 34, group of 90-60% of P.ovale were 12. 4. Scales from the scalp of 60 subjects were cultured, positive culture colonies were observed in 60(100%).

This study was Paragonimus iloktsuenensis on the life cycle. Chen (1940) was the first to describe in China that a species of brackish water snails, Assiminea lutea serve as the first intermediate host of Paragonimus iloktsuenensis. As a second intermediate host of Pragonimus iloktsuenensis Sesarma dehaani has already been reported since the metacercria has been firsty isolated in the above crab host by Yokogawz et al. (1971) in Korea. Sesarma intermedia were also found to be served as the Crab host (Seo et Kwak, 1972) at Hadong aere Kyong-Sang I30, South, Korea. In the present study, authors attempted to find the natural infection with Paragonimus iloktsuenensis in the brackish water snails, collected at the Sumjin River delta, where is known as enzootic areas of this fluke, and to identify the species of infected snails. The larval morphology of fluke found in the snail host was also described.

Campylobacter fetus subsp.jejuni have been know since 1909 to cause disease in animals, however C.fetus subsp. ejuni as a cause of enteritis in human has been recognized only recently. C.fetus subsp. ejuni is isolated as commonly than are Salmonella or Shigella species. The organism has been found in 4 - 11% of patients with diarrheal illness in Euroup and America, Although the infection has been not reported in Korea, The incidence is not know. C. fetus subsp. jeiuni should be sought routinely in fecal speciment from patients with diarrhea, Although isolation method were complicated in the past, this article explains how recent simplications of culture tehniques have brought the laboratory diagnosis of Campylobacter enteritis with in the grasp of every clinical microbiology that does enteric bacteriology.

The present experiment was performed to observe the ultrastructure of body wall of the lungfluke, Paragonimus iloktsuenensis. For this study, lungflukes were collected from the lung of rats on three months after the infection with metacercariae obtained from the brackish water crab, Sesarma dehaani. The samples from the collected materials were prepared for both scanning and transmission electron microscopy. The findings obtained were as follows: The body surface of the lungflukes were provided with numerous protoplasmic processes of tegument and the spines and the papillae were distributed on the body surfaces. The spines were composed of fine filaments and appeared crystalloid structure. Especially around the oral sucker the spines were scattered to the colonial pattern and the papillae were provided. The surface protoplasmic membrane of tegument was coated with the glycocalyx. The tegument was possessed of both biconcave disc granules and dense core disc granules. In the tegument a lot of granules were gathered near the surface of protoplasmic membrane. Many pinocytotic vesicles were also distributed in the same area. Around the oral sucker spherical structures with many protoplasmic processes were distributed in the tegument. The muscle layer consisted of two layers, the outer circular and inner longitudinal. Some nerve axons were found in the muscle layer. The tegumental cells were discriminated into two types by the contour of the granules in their cytoplasm; The tegumental cells was possessed of the biconcave disc granules and another electron dense core disc granules.
위염 환자에서 변현된 Urea agar로 Helicobacter pylori 검사에 관한 연구

Helicobacter pylori, a gram negative spiral bacilli, is known to be the cause of chronic gastritis and peptic ulcer disease and is strangly associated with gastric cancer. The authors have tried to make a new urea test more convenient for routine H. pylori laboratory study than CLO-test. Two piece of biopsy speciments were investigated with the urease test and histopathologic examination. The results urea summurized as follows : The urease positive reaction of CLO-test and modifyed urea agar from biopsy material were 70% and 70% in gastritis, 25% and 25% in gastric ulcer. Among the total 36 cases, 20 cases showed positive urease reaction from CLO-test and 19 cases were ureas positive from modified urea agar. 16 cases were urea negative specimen.
