A microsystem with capillary electrophoresis (CE) and electrochemical detector (ECD) was developed. The microfabricated CE-ECD systems are adequate for a disposable type and the characteristics are optimized for an application to the electrochemical detection. The system was realized with polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS)-glass chip and indium tin oxide electrode. The injection and separation channels (80 ㎛ wide × 40 ㎛ deep) were produced by moulding a PDMS against a micro fabricated master with relatively simple and inexpensive methods. ITO electrode was fabricated by patterning the ITO film deposited on a fusion glass. A capillary electrophoresis and a three-electrode electrochemical detector were fabricated on the same chip. The CE-chip has been tested successfully by detecting dopamine and catechol within a very short time of around 80 sec using an electric field of 60 V/㎝. This microchip is cost effective and adequate for a disposable sensor.
