An experimental study is conducted to investigate the characteristic of the ion wind that is generated by electric field between a needle electrode and plate electrode. The ion wind enhances heat and mass transfer between the surface and the surrounding gas. Moreover such enhancement makes no noise or vibration. Therefore it can be applied to complex and isolated geometries. This study is conducted to develop the application of electronic cooling device. The gas velocity generated by ion wind relates to the parameters such as applied voltage, the distance of electrode gap, electrode type and relative humidity. The measured gas velocity is a linear function of the applied voltage and is inversely proportional to the gap of electrodes. The maximum gas velocity for the corona discharge in this system is 2.5 ㎧.
