        갯녹음 지역과 바다숲 조성지에 서식하는 둥근성게, Strongylocentrotus nudus, 산란기의 생태적 특성

        Ecological characteristics of the globular sea urchin Strongylocentrotus nudus in barren areas (due to blanching) and seaweed forest (constructed) areas was compared during the spawning period of August to December off shore Duekshin-ri, Uljin, Kyeongbuk Province of Korea. Seaweed communities consisted of a total of 18 species in 3 phyla with biomass of 481.4 g/m2 the barren areas, and a total of 18 species in 3 phyla with 8,259.9 g/m2 in the seaweed forest, where 17.2-fold higher biomass than that in the barren habitats was recorded. Sea urchins tests were with ranges of their diameter from 4.8 to 7.9 cm (monthly mean: 5.5–6.2 cm) in the barren areas and 4.9 to 7.6 cm (monthly 5.3–6.3 cm) in the seaweed forest. Ranges of test heights fell between 2.3 and 4.8 cm (mean 3.0–3.3 cm) in the barren areas, and 1.6 and 4.8 cm (3.0–3.7 cm) in the marine forest areas. Gonad index of sea urchins peaked in September in the barren areas (15.9) and the marine forest areas (25.1), decreased until November (to 3.9 and 4.5, respectively), then increased progressively again from December. Gonad index was 1.6-fold higher in the marine forest areas than that in the barren areas. Despite the region- or water temperature-dependent variations the spawning period is estimated to be from August to November on the east coast and it can be an effective way for scientific sea forest management to remove sea urchins before the spawning period.

        강원 사천연안 자연암반의 해조류 군락과 저서동물 군집

        Distribution and community of benthic algae and macrozoobenthose were investigated in a natural rock area off the Sacheon coast of Gangnung Gwangwon Province. Major results are summarized as follows: Macoalgal assemblage collected in the natural rock of Sacheon constituted a total of 36 species, including 4 species (11.1%) of Chlorophyta, 10 species (27.8%) of Ochrophyta, 22 species (61.1%) of Rhodophyta, with biomasses ranging from 161.7 to 1,278.1 gwwt/㎡. The most dominant macroalgal species were Plocamium telfairiae, Sargassum horneri and Grateloupia cornea. Major grazers in the natural rock of Sacheon were echinodea, univalve shell, and Aplysia. Their monthly abundances were 29-56 ind./225㎡ in echinode, 20-46 ind./225㎡ in univalve shell, and 3-9 ind./225㎡ (with the exception of no appearance in August to October) in Aplysia. Epibenthic zoobenthos in the natural rock of Sacheon were identified by 25 species of five phyla. Of these, Mollusca was highest with 11 species, followed by six species of Echinodermata and Porifera, respectively, and one species of Arthropoda and Chordata, respectively.
