Method of optimum design of a compact sensible plate-fin heat exchanger for the heat recovery of exhaust gas from the air conditioning space was developed in consideration of the econamics of investment cost and profit according to the installation of heat exchanges. In the counterflow heat exchanger, the frontal area was fixed and the length of heat exchanger was optimized in order to maximize the net gain according to the setting of the heat exchanger. In the cross flow heat exchanger, the size of the exchanger was also optimized to maximize the net gain.

Thermal performance of pipe network of continuous heating system controlled by thermostat and flow control valve was simulated in consideration of radiation heat transfer and solved by linear analysis method. Thermal performance of real apartment building with radiant floor heating system was simulated by equivalence heat resistance-capacity method. This method enables to simulate the unsteady variation of temperature or each element of building. Heat transfer characteristics of each element were also investigated.

A numerical simulation of velocity and temperature fields and Nusselt number distributions is performed by using the algebraic stress model (ASM) for the velocity profiles and low Reynolds number ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model and the algebraic heat flux model(AHFM) for turbulent heat transfer in a $180^{\circ}$ bend with a constant wall heat flux. In the low Reynolds number ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ model, turbulent Prandtl number is modified by considering the streamline curvature effect and the non-equilibrium effect between turbulent kinetic energy production and dissipation rate. Every heat flux term presented in the transport equation of turbulent heat flux is reduced to algebraic expressions in a way similar to algebraic stress model. Also. in the wall region, low Reynods number algebraic heat flux model(AHFM) is applied.

Thermal performance of test cell of model hot water Ondol house was simulated by equivalence heat resistence and heat capacity method. In this method wall was replaced by two equivalence and one heat capacity. This method enables to simulate the variation of temperature of each element of model house. The effect of pipe diameter, pitch of pipe and with or without consideration of inter-radiation between wall surfaces on the energy consumption rate were investgated. Results show that radiations between the ground surface of room and wall surfaces contribute to the heating of room air by reducing the convection heat loss through the wall surfaces.

This paper is concerned with the prediction of two dimensional turbulent flows in the parallel plate with the repeated cylindrical blockages. The purpose of this paper is to find the effect of the eccentricity and the pitch of the repeated cylindrical blockages on the flow field, heat transfer coefficients and friction factors. A special technique is developed for the solution of the fully developed turbulent recirculating flow, in which the flow field varies periodically. A non-othogonal coordinate transformation is employed to solve the momentum and the energy equations. The results show that the pitch ratio or the eccentricity of the repeated blockages become smaller, or the Reynolds number of the flow larger, friction factors and heat transfer coefficients increase.

A method of optimum design of an axial rotary sensible heat exchanger for the heat recovery of exhaust gas from the air conditioning space was developed in consideration of economics of investment cost and profit according to the installation of heat exchangers. Leakage rate of exhaust gas was calculated and the correlation for the pressure drop due to leakage of exhaust gas was proposed. Heat transfer between the matrix and exhaust and intake gas was analysed to calculate the effectiveness of heat exchanger, which was used for the optimum design of rotary heat exchanger. The results show that optimum rotational speed increases as the length of rotor increases and there exists optimum NTU which maximizes the gain of total cost according to the installation of rotary heat exchanger.

Performance of naturally circulating cooling system of $SF_6$ gas charged transformer was simulated and the variations of gas flow rate, maximum coil temperature, gas temperature and cooling air temperature were investigated with respect to the height of radiator, interplates distance and heat generation rate at core. The results show that the height of radiator most significantly affects the performance of natural circulating cooling system of transformer.
