The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between the leadership role structure of sports team and esteem of leaders. The leadership role structure of sports team were categorized ability leadership role, task leadership role, socio-emotional leadership role. Esteem refers to the value of members as persons, regardless of their positions, to their group, to their organization, or to society. The subjects were six high school rugbyfootball teams in Seoul, which is participation the 21th Ministry of Culture and Sports Administrator tournament in Seoul. The research instruments used in this study were Melick & Chember's questionnaire, and Fernandez's questionnaire. To data analysis, statistic used the study were One-way ANOVA, Pearson Correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Based upon the result of study, the following five conclusions appear warranted. First, There was appeared positive correlations between the status hierarchy and the esteem. Second, The effect of leadership role on esteem of captain are appeared that ability leadership role, socio-emotional leadership role, task leadership role in regular sequence. Third, The effect of leadership role on esteem of assistant captain are appeared that task leadership role, ability leadership role, socio-emotional leadership role in regular sequence. Fourth, The effect of leadership role on esteem of veteran athletes are appeared that ability leadership role, task leadership role, socio-emotional leadership role in regular sequence. Fifth, The effect of leadership role on esteem of rookie athletes are appeared that task leadership role, socio-emotional leadership role, ability leadership role in regular sequence.
