Polymer Electrolyte Membrane fuel cell (PEMFCs) are regarded as an attractive alternative to replace the existing automotive power sources. To guarantee high performance and to achieve the improved durability of PEMFC system, novel water management is essential. To this end, a comprehensive understanding of the dynamic behavior of liquid water inside the operating PEMFC plays an significant role. In this work, direct visualization of water droplet behavior in the ex situ unit flow channel of PEMFC including gas diffusion layer (GDL) is carried out as one of the basic water management studies. Water droplet dynamics such as the movement and growth of liquid water droplet are mainly presented and discussed. The data obtained as a result of this study can contribute to set up the fundamental strategy including efficient water removal from automotive PEMFC stack.
