Thermal performance of a thermoelectric module (TEM) in a thermoelectric cooling system with a heat sink is analytically examined. The thermoelectric cooling system is composed of a water jacket, a thermoelectric module and a heat sink. The thermal performance of a thermoelectric module (Ferro Tee: TE 9500-127-060B) with the selected convective thermal resistance of a heat sink (Rev) is evaluated. The results show that the cooling performance of a thermoelectric module is enhanced as the convective thermal resistance decreases. The thermoelectric cooling system with R<SUB>cv</SUB>=0.3 provides 44.9% higher COP (coefficient of performance) and 59.5% higher heat absorbed compared to R<SUB>cv</SUB>= 1.1, respectively.

As one of measures to improve the environment in an automobile, Malodor caused by the automobile air conditioner evaporator was evaluated and analyzed using lab-scale test bench. The odor was simulated with an evaporator test bench equipped with an airflow controller, air temperature and relative humidity controller. To simulate the same characteristics of odor used to occur from automobiles, one used automobile air conditioner evaporator associated with unpleasant odors was selected. The odor was evaluated by trained panels and sampled with aluminium polyester bags. Samples were analyzed by thermal desorption into a cryotrap and subsequent gas chromatographic separation, followed by simultaneous olfactometry, flame ionization detector and identified by mass spectrometry. Because compounds are concentrated before thermal desorption, such sample as odor from evaporator was able to detect trace compounds participating in odor. Compounds such as aromatic hydrocarbons, alcohols, aldehydes, and organic acids were identified. GC/FID/Olfactometry combined sensory method with instrumental analysis was very effective for odor evaluation method in an automobile air conditioner evaporator.

FCEV uses electric energy generated from fuel cell stack, thus all consisting parts must be re-designed to be suitable for electricity based system. Cathode air blower which supplies compressed air into fuel cell stack has similar shape of turbocharger, but a radial turbine of traditional turbocharger is removed and high speed BLDC motor is installed . Generally, maximum 10% of electric power of fuel cell stack is consumed in air blower, therefore an effective design of air blower can improve the performance of FCEV directly. This study will present an aerodynamic design process of an air blower and compare computational results with experimental data.
