Vol.7 No.1

This study aims to present various approaches to Dance movement psychotherapy in a new psychotherapy paradigm by analyzing the similarities between Dance movement psychotherapy and Sensorimotor psychotherapy. In the past, psychology has developed based on experience-oriented clinical statistics, but with the development of advanced technologies to measure brain activity such as magnetic resonance imaging(FMRI) in the early 1990s, understanding of brain-neural-body interactions has increased. As advanced technologies such as magnetic resonance imaging(FMRI) can be used to measure physical responses in physical psychotherapy such as Dance movement psychotherapy, the perception of this is changing. One of the basic principles of Dance movement  psychotherapy is that the body and mind constantly interact (Schoop, 1974).This reflects psychological development, psychopathology, subjective expression, personal pattern, and personality aspects. Sensorimotorpsychotherapy is a body work-oriented language-based psychotherapy developed by Pat Ogden, inspired by the structural integration work of Ron Kurtz and Rolf. Dance/movement psychotherapy is a treatment method applicable to lifelong development subjects, but it can be more effective if it is used in conjunction with other disciplines. As there are limitations and suggestions for every study. It is not easy to achieve effectiveness for all subjects with only a single specific psychotherapy technique. Therefore, this study aims to prove the effectiveness of Dance movement psychotherapy and explore the possibility of expanding Dance movement psychotherapy by comparing and analyzing Sensorimotor psychotherapy and Marian Chace, the founder of Dance movement  psychotherapy. Marian Chace's Dance movement psychotherapy theory has early experience-oriented characteristics and is one of the representative techniques in the field of Dance/movement psychotherapy. Therefore, we would like to prove the effectiveness of  Dance movement psychotherapy by comparing and analyzing with the current theory of Sensorimotor psychotherapy based on neurophysiology, and explore the possibility of expansion of Dance movement psychotherapy based on this.

Vol.4 No.1

Epilepsy is a leading chronic neurological disorder (World Health Organization, 2019) that appears in about 50 million people in the world s population, and estimated 300,000 to 400,000 patients in Korea are suffering from cerebral infarction. This is a common disease that anyone can develop, but the reality is that only a limited number of people are treated properly, and that the number of studies has been underrated for a long time due to misconceptions. To analyze the research problem, six voluntary study participants were recruited to conduct qualitative research through in-depth interviews. The method used triangulation (Patton, 1980) to identify the frequency mentioned by six study participants and to extract subcomponents by summarizing them in the same units of meaning among the contents mentioned by two or more. Results of anxiety traits of patients with epilepsy are sorted four components <Anxiety of daily life>, <Anxiety about symptoms>, <Anxiety within social relationships>, <Anxiety about emotional expression>, 12 subcomponents of anxiety, ① Emptiness of difficult daily life, ②Anticipatory anxiety due to seizure, ③Lack of confidence in all things, ④Anxiety derived from physical symptoms, ⑤Lack of self-control for physical symptoms, ⑥Representment towards epilepsy, ⑦Emotional anxiety due to physical symptoms. ⑧Difficulties within social relation, ⑨Negative environment changed by epilepsy, ⑩Suppression of emotional expression, ⑪Settlement by my own way, ⑫Sense of alienation from world Epilepsy is a disease that separates the body from the mind (Park Mi-sook, 2010), and dance movement therapy aims to integrate the body and mind (Flow fraction, 2000). The researcher analyzed the cases of researcher and client G to see how dance movement therapy has a positive effects on patients with epilepsy, in order to observe how it has positive effects on them. As a result, epilepsy patients experience body armor, slowing down by suppressing the body and emotions with the anxiety of unpredictable seizures. Emotions suppressed by body armor cling to character. Dance movement therapy eliminates and reduces anxiety recognizing emotional feelings and expressing with movement and sounds in a safe environment with movement intervention. This experience will help interpersonal relationships smoothly and will have a positive impact on improving social skills. This study is the first in Korea to link epilepsy to dance movement therapy, and it is significant that dance movement therapy has had positive effects on the reduction of anxiety in patients with epilepsy, a leading chronic neurological disorder seen in 50 million people around the world. Also, unlike other studies conducted so far, I believe that this study has approached the basic problem life of patients with mental and social difficulties as well as physical difficulties due to unpredictable seizures. Futhermore this research in significant as I, the researcher had experienced epilepsy and alienated directly from society with many difficulties. This researcher carries my own anxiety. I believe and wish that dance movement therapy could be effective and possible or more various neurological disorders strting from this study.
