        임순길,주용인 龍仁大學校 體育科學硏究所 1997 體育科學硏究論叢 Vol.7 No.1

This study was to examine the effects of the characteristics of exercises on the body composition and the bone mineral density. The subjects were consisted of female athletes and female general students. The numbers of each sample group were 10 long distance athletes, 10 long distance swimming athletes, and 10 general students as a control group. All subjects were measured in their body compositions and bone mineral densities using DEXA method. The results of this study were a s follows; 1. The body fat ratio of the control group was higher than other two experimental groups of female long distance participants and female swimmers, however, the significance was not found. 2. The lean body mass of the swimming athletes group was higher than the other groups of long distance participants and the general students. 3. The bone mineral densities of the general students were higher than the other two groups of long distance athletes and the swimmers. Among the comparison of each part of bone mineral densities, the swimmers' group showed the higher rate compared to the other two groups of long distance athletes and general students, however, no significance was identified. 4. In the comparison of lumber bone mineral density, the general college students showed a significant difference compared to the other two groups of athletes. The mean value of general college students' lumbar bone mineral densities value was higher than the other two groups of athletes. 5. The total body mineral content of the general women's was higher than the other two groups of the athletes, however, no significance was found. 6. In the comparisons of the lumbar none mineral content, the college students showed the highest values among the three groups in which the swimmers' group showed the higher mean value than the long distance athletes group, however, no significances were found. In the results of this study, exercises can be effective on maintaining the bone mineral density normal, however, an excessive training seemed to cause dysmenorrhea for young female athletes. Therefore, low strength exercise combined with the appropriate nutrition provisions could be recommended rather than excessive training.
