Epigallocathechin-3-gallate (EGCG), the main polyphenol component in green tea, inhibits angiogenesis, urokinase, and matalloproteinases, and EGCG also has the antioxidative property. Recent reports proposed that EGCG may modulate the immune response on allergy or asthma. Human nasal mucosal fibroblasts are a rich source of cytokines, inflammatory mediators, and chemokines. Chemokines are important for the recruitment of leukocytes to sites of infection, which is essential in host defense. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of EGCG on the expression of the chemokines such as RANTES (regulated upon activation, normal T cell expressed and presumably secreted), eotaxin, and interleukin-8 (IL-8) in human nasal mucosal fibroblasts after stimulation with cytokines like IL-4, tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}\;(TNF-{\alpha})$, and $interferon-{\gamma}\;(IFN-{\gamma})$. To detect the expression of chemokine genes, RT-PCR was performed. Expressions of RANTES, eotaxin, and IL-8 mRNA stimulated with IL-4 and $TNF-{\alpha}$ were increased, respectively, while the expression of those genes incubated with $IFN-{\gamma}$ was similar pattern compared to control group. Analyses of chemokine genes of cells pretreated with EGCG showed that the expressions of eotaxin, and IL-8 genes stimulated $IFN-{\gamma}$ were higher compared with those not pretreated with EGCG.
BICC 적용을 통한 WCDMA 교환망 중계 효율성 제고방안 연구

BICC protocol is a relay protocol adaptable to ATM and IP based core networks compared to ISUP protocol to TDM networks. Using BICC protocol, multi-rate bearer traffic such as voice and video can flow in the relay core networks. BICC protocol is standardized as WCDMA circuit switching networks in 3GPP Release 4. Thus KTF is now operating core networks using BICC protocol. In this paper, we describe the background and characteristics of BICC protocol. We also provide the status of KTF WCDMA core networks using BICC. To show the efficiency of BICC protocol an analytical simulation is given in which the results can be expected by intuitive observation.

무선 그리드 컴퓨팅 환경에서 종간간 QoS 는 매우 복잡하고 QoS 자체의 관리에 대한 증가하는 요구를 부각시켰다. 먼저 우리는 미들웨어 개체와 네트워크 개체를 포함하는 쿼럼기반의 자원 관리안을 제안한다. 두 개체들을 이용함으로써 우리는 QoS 응용의 요구사항을 만족 시킬 수 있다. 이 논문은 QoS 응용을 만족시키는 최적화 자원 쿼럼을 찾기 위한 휴리스틱한 알고리즘을 제안한다. 둘째, QoS 쿼럼에 제약된 작업 할당과 실행을 발생시키는 데이터를 최적으로 전송하는 방법을 제안한다. 실험과 건강관리를 위한 심전도 응용에 근거한 Linear Program 두 가지를 평가한다. 실험 결과는 우리의 방안이 심전도 응용의 실행시간을 단축 시켜준다는 것을 보여준다. 또한 선형 프로그래밍에 의한 결과는 사용자의 요구를 만족 시키는 노드 수를 결정할 수 있다는 것을 보여준다.

Quality of Service (QoS)-constrained policy has an advantage to guarantee QoS requirements requested by users. Quorum systems can ensure the consistency and availability of replicated data despite the benign failure of data repositories. We propose a Quorum based resource management scheme, which includes a system resource and network resource, both of which can satisfy the requirements of application QoS. We also propose the resource reconfiguration algorithm based on temporal execution time estimation method. Resource reconfiguration performs the reshuffling of the current available resource set for maintaining the quality level of the resources. We evaluate the effectiveness of resource reconfiguration mechanism in a Heart Hemodynamics analysis. Our approach increases the stability of execution environment as well as decreases the completion time compared to the method that does not adopt the proposed reconfiguration scheme

Mitochondrial encephalomyopathy, lactic acidosis, and stroke-like episodes, abbreviated to MELAS, syndrome is a common mitochondrial disease that can present with a wide range of clinical symptoms, including seizures, stroke-like episodes, neuropathy, myopathy, sensorineural hearing loss, and encephalopathy. Although more than 90% of patients present with stroke-like episodes before the age of 40 years, some reports have described patients presenting later in life. Here, we report MELAS syndrome diagnosed in a 52-year-old Korean woman admitted because of altered mentality. She had a history of diabetes, sensorineural hearing loss, and cardiomyopathy. The patient`s mentality fluctuated and her lactic acid level was elevated in the hospital. Although she was in her 50s, her medical history, encephalopathy, and lactic acidosis made us strongly suspect MELAS syndrome. The diagnosis was confirmed when a test showed the A3243G mitochondrial DNA mutation. (Korean J Med 2011;80:225-230)
Th2 세포에서 IL-12에 의한 IL-18R ${\alpha}$의 발현유지 및 IL-18 자극에 의한 GATA-3의 유도

Background: IL-18 was originally cloned as a IFN-${\gamma}$ inducing factor in primed T cells. In synergy with IL-12, IL-18 has been shown to induce strikingly high levels of IFN-${\gamma}$ production by T cells and to enhance Th1 development. Also this cytokine exerts induction of Th2 development through IL-4 induction. Methods: Resting $CD4^+$ T cells were sorted by negative selection and activated by anti-CD3 plus anti-CD28 Ab. Expression of IL-12 binding sites, IL-18 binding sites, IL-18R ${\alpha}$, and GATA-3 mRNA were analysed by FACS and RT-PCR, respectively. Results: Resting $CD4^+$ T cells expressed IL-18R ${\alpha}$ chain but not IL-18 binding sites, suggesting a lack of IL-18R ${\beta}$ expression. IL-18R ${\alpha}$ was maintained on the Th1 and Th2 committed cells. IL-18 binding sites were induced on the Th1 but not Th2 cells. Exposure of these cells to IL-18 led to up-regulation of GATA-3 mRNA expression only in Th2 committed cells. To elucidate the relationship between IL-18R ${\alpha}$ expression and GATA-3 induction by IL-18, Th1 and Th2 committed cells were further cultured in medium with or without IL-12 for 2 days. IL-12 binding sites were maintained on the Th1 and Th2 cells regardless of IL-12 treatment, but IL-18R a expression was rapidly down-regulated on the IL12-untreated Th2 cells which did not induce GATA-3 mRNA expression followed by IL-18 stimulation. Conclusion: IL-12 supports expression of IL-18R ${\alpha}$ and GATA-3 mRNA expression was induced by IL-18 through IL-18R ${\alpha}$ without expression of IL-18 binding site in Th2 cells.
