Plasmodium vivαx is one of the most common species among the four human malaria species. Currrently, the number of malaria incidence is increasing exponentially among military personal and civilians. The distribution of the mosquitoes in Korea is considered to be at wide range especially vector mosquitoes in northern Kyonggi province where malaria occurs most often. Studies on animal biting collections were perfonned at Y ouncheon-gun Gunnam-myun and Paju-si Tanhyun-myun, close to the DMZ area from August to September, 2α)(). A total of 3 genera were collected in the biting collections. Anopheles sinensis showed peal잉 in biting activity from 2:00 to 3:00 a.m. in Youncheon-gun and from 1:00 to 2:00 a.m. in Paju. We examined malaria antibody by EIA method. Among 176 samples, 35(19.89%) showed positive reaction.

Plasmodium vivαx is one of the most common species among the four human malaria species. Currently, the number of malaria incidences is increasing exponentially among military personal and civilians. The distribution of the mosquitoes in Korea is considered to be a wide range especially vector mosquitoes in northem Kyonggi province where malaria occurs most often. Studies on seasonal fluctuations in the mosquito population size were carried out at Y ouncheon-gun, close to the DMZ area. Mosquitoes were collected weekly throughout the main mosquito season from the 3rd week of August to the 1st week of October. A total of 3 genera were collected by light trap, Anopheles spp. were 96.8%, Culex spp. were 19.%, Aedes spp. were 1.3%, and Anopheles spp. showed the highest population in the area. Among Anopheles spp., Anopheles sinensis was 93.1 % and the population density of A. sinensis had the highest peak time in the 4th week of August.
