The combustion phenomena of the stratified charged model combustion chamber under the initial conditions of the room temperature and the atmospheric pressure were investigated by using pressure record and high speed Schlieren motion picture in comparison with that of the uniformly charged case.<br/> The results show that the total burning time is strongly dependent on the turbulent spouting flame jet speed which promotes the combustion process inside the chamber, and the pressure rise-up of strntified charged combustion is rather faster and higher than that of uniformly charged combustion, which can be resulted in the energy saving.

Combustion characteristics of opposed jet-flames spouting out from dual prechambers of a divided combustion chamber were investigated by using high speed schilieren photography and chamber pressure measurement.<br/> Result shows that opposedjet-f1ames are characterized by the parameter (A_ori/V_p) and there exists a certain critical value of (A_ori/V_p)_c which distinguishes flame propagation patterns in the main chamber. Also higher chamber pressure and shorter total burning time can be derived by adopting this dual prechamber divided combustion chamber, which would lead a possibility of an appropriate combustion method of high load and low emmissions.

Combustion processor progress and NOx pollutant reduction behavior of opposed-jetflame combustion process in a dual-prechamber-divided-combustion-chamber were investigated by using high speed schlieren photography, chamber pressure measurement, and diluted NOx sampling technique.<br/> Results show that opposed-jet-flame combustion process can motivate considerably higher chamber peak pressure and significant lower NOx emission than any other combustion processes studied simultaneously as the comparison experiments. The combustion process of opposedjet-flames is suggested as so-called 'Internal exhaust gas recirculation' process.

The aerodynamic characteristics of the most popular car (PONY 2) produced in Korea have been experimentally investigated by Seoul National University's wind tunnel. The model (PONY 2) chosen for the wind tunnel was a 1/5 scale of the original car without simulated underbody, cooling air flow and accessories. The measured aerodymanic drag coefficient corrected by JARI formula is 0.45 which is very close to those of small foreign cars.<br/> To see the effect of the different configurations on the aerodynamic drag, the modifications have been made by changing the hood slope and backlight slope, and putting the add-on-aerodynamic devices on the orignal shape. The rear spoiler was found the most effective one to reduce the aerodynamic drag. It may be concluded that the considerable aerodnamic drag reduction can be achieved by changing the slopes and A-O-A devices at the proper places of the car.

To understand the effects of turbulence on combustion, it was experimentally investigated in the combustion chamber with sub-chamber by using pressure record and high speed Schlieren motion picture.<br/> The results show that turbulence can increase the flame propagating rate and there exists a condition under which the total burning time becomes the minimum. And it was also found that there exist three kinds of flame propagating pattern and the total burning time can be reduced with the appropriate selection of sub-chamber size and orifice diameter.
