During a cold start, engine consumes more fuels compared with in hot operating condition. Because high viscosity of engine oil at low temperature increases mechanical frictions and thermal losses. Therefore, many warm up devices were researched about shortening its heat-up time to reduce mechanical frictions and fuel consumptions for decades. An exhaust gas with high temperature and volumetric flow rate can provide a possibility of high thermal potential to an engine. In this paper, heat exchanger system was consisted of engine oil circuit and heating components installation using EGR. The oil heater stand on CFD and engine numerical optimization applied to real engine test. And it is analyzed the effects of engine oil heater about the warm-up characteristics of engine variables and the fuel consumption in WLTP cycle. The results were compared with analytical modeling and engine bench test results in WLTP cycle.
