This paper describes a motor torque control of six-wheel-driven electric vehicles for improved energy economy. In this research, this controller coordinates each driving motor torque to minimize total energy consumption under given required power condition. The controller consists of upper and lower level controller. The upper level controller determines required torque of the vehicle. The required torque is calculated by acceleration pedal input and vehicle velocity. The lower level controller determines energy consumption of motors in given condition and coordinates motor torque to minimize vehicle energy consumption. In coordinating optimal motor torque, motor efficiency is determined by motor speed and operating torque and maximum torque is a function of motor speed. Simulation studies are conducted to evaluate proposed motor torque controller and compare with conventional controller.
