This paper deals with the experimental study for the development of high voltage induction coolant heater for EV. High voltage coolant heaters can solve two issues. One is cabin heating of green car that has no engine heat. The other issue is cold start of EV below -10 ℃ that harms its battery span. Integrated thermal systems are needed that can handle with cabin heating and battery warming-up at the same time. In this study, Induction coolant heater has been developed as a heat source of the thermal systems and its basic performances such as heating power, efficiency, coolant pressure drop have been met by building and testing samples based on study about working coil turn and work piece’s parameters such as diameter, length, thickness, permeability. As a result, its package is smaller and its weight is lighter than coolant heaters using PTC stone. So, we can expect better competitive price and fuel efficiency.

Thermal performance of a thermoelectric module (TEM) in a thermoelectric cooling system with a heat sink is analytically examined. The thermoelectric cooling system is composed of a water jacket, a thermoelectric module and a heat sink. The thermal performance of a thermoelectric module (Ferro Tee: TE 9500-127-060B) with the selected convective thermal resistance of a heat sink (Rev) is evaluated. The results show that the cooling performance of a thermoelectric module is enhanced as the convective thermal resistance decreases. The thermoelectric cooling system with R<SUB>cv</SUB>=0.3 provides 44.9% higher COP (coefficient of performance) and 59.5% higher heat absorbed compared to R<SUB>cv</SUB>= 1.1, respectively.
